Seraphina hadn't even noticed Cynthia; she was completely surrounded by a crowd, unable to pull herself away.
She chatted with the attendees, casually dropping the name Orca Materials and mentioning they were a highly reliable supplier.
She deliberately left out the part where she owned the company.
Even so, by the time she made her rounds, she had secured seven or eight solid letters of intent.
A satisfied smile tugged at the corners of her lips.
The gala soon drew to a close. As the crowd began to thin, Seraphina prepared to head home.
Julian followed her out. "Come on, I'll give you a ride. I'll go pull the car around; wait for me at the main entrance."
Seraphina smiled and didn't decline the offer.
She walked ahead alone. Just as she reached the bottom of the steps, before she could even turn the corner, a car suddenly came barreling in from the street.
Acting on pure instinct, Seraphina dove to the side, narrowly dodging the vehicle.
The car then sped straight toward Dominic, who had just stepped out from the opposite side.
Before Dominic could even process what was happening, a figure darted out and shoved him hard out of the way.
Crash!
Cynthia was struck by the impact, sent flying through the air before hitting the concrete hard.
Dominic stumbled back a few steps. When he saw Cynthia lying in a pool of her own blood, his pupils dilated in sheer horror.
"Cynthia!"
Running on pure adrenaline, he shoved past the person closest to him and sprinted toward her.
That person happened to be Seraphina.
Caught off guard by the violent shove, she lost her balance. Her forehead slammed against the edge of the stone planter. A blinding pain shot through her skull, and her vision went black.
Dominic didn't care about anything else. He dropped to his knees beside Cynthia and gathered her into his arms. "Cynthia! Why would you do something so foolish..."
Blood trickled from the corner of Cynthia's mouth. "I... I didn't want to see you get hurt..."
With those words, her head fell to the side, and she passed out.
"Hurry, get her to the hospital..."
Dominic scooped her up into his arms, inadvertently bumping into someone as he rose to his feet.
Seraphina, who had just managed to push herself up from the ground, was knocked over again by the impact. This time, the back of her head cracked against a decorative flowerpot.
She clutched her head in agony as total darkness finally claimed her.
At that exact moment, Julian pulled his car up to the curb.
He slammed on the brakes, threw the door open, and sprinted over.
