Dominic frowned deeply. "There's no rush. We can go in a few days."
Seraphina's tone was uncompromising. "We're going right now."
Seeing the absolute finality in her eyes, Dominic inhaled sharply.
"You were just discharged. You haven't fully recovered yet. Give it a few days."
"Not necessary."
Seraphina grabbed her purse and headed for the door.
Dominic sighed heavily. Just as he was about to speak again, his phone rang. It was a video call from Lily.
The moment he answered, Lily's little face filled the screen.
"Daddy! Is Mom out of the hospital yet? I miss her!"
Lily had been discharged a few days earlier than Seraphina and had been calling several times a day to check on her.
Dominic turned the screen toward Seraphina.
Seraphina paused for a moment before walking over.
"Mom is out of the hospital now."
"Then come have dinner with me! Please? I miss you so much."
Before Seraphina could answer, Dominic pulled the phone back.
"Lily, Daddy and Mom will come see you and have dinner together soon. Be a good girl and wait for us."
He glanced at Seraphina. "Let's take her to dinner first. Everything else can wait."
Seraphina shot him a glare and snatched the phone from his hand.
"Lily, Mom has to take care of something really important first. As soon as I'm done, I'll come straight to you for dinner, okay?"
Lily tilted her head, thinking it over. "Then you have to hurry! No tricking me!"
"I promise."
Ending the call, Seraphina shoved the phone back into his chest and turned toward the door.
"City Hall."
Watching her unwavering determination, Dominic's brow furrowed, but he ultimately followed her out.
Filling out the forms, taking the photos, submitting the application.
Once the entire process was complete, the clerk handed them a confirmation slip.
"There is a mandatory thirty-day cooling-off period. If neither party withdraws the application within thirty days, return here to finalize the divorce."
Seraphina took the slip, folded it neatly, and tucked it into her pocket.
As she stepped out of the City Hall doors, she glanced up at the sky.
