Seraphina blinked, her dazed senses slowly returning. She quickly realized she was leaning solidly against Gideon's chest.
The tips of her ears flushed as she used her crutches to stabilize herself and glanced up at him. "Thank you."
Gideon gazed down at her. "Got your footing?"
"Yeah."
She gave a slight nod. Using his arm for leverage, she pivoted and limped toward a nearby chair.
From start to finish, she didn't spare Dominic a single glance.
Dominic quietly retracted his hand, curling his fingers into a tight fist.
Gideon helped Seraphina into her seat, then poured a glass of warm water and placed it in her hands. "Drink some water. Don't panic. We'll definitely find her."
Seraphina took a sip. Sweeping a glance around the room, she noticed Dominic had stepped away to take a phone call. She lowered her voice. "Gideon, I still feel like there's something off about Cynthia. I'm worried she's going to stir up more trouble."
"I wouldn't be surprised if she actually holds some clues."
She looked up at him with pleading eyes. "Could you have your men keep an eye on her?"
The corner of Gideon's mouth ticked upward. "Already handled."
Seraphina froze for a brief second.
"When did you..."
"While you were kicking her out earlier, we were already having an internal discussion about her suspicious behavior. My people have been tailing her from the second she walked out that door. Her communications are being systematically scrubbed as we speak."
Seraphina let out a massive breath of relief, an indescribable sense of gratitude blossoming in her chest.
Before she could utter another word, Gideon spoke again. "We need to find the child, but you can't afford to break down in the process. Head back and get some rest, otherwise you won't have the strength to handle what comes next."
Checking her phone, Seraphina nodded. "Alright. I'll go home and catch a quick nap."
Gideon reached out to support her by the arm, gently guiding her toward the exit.
Spotting her leaving, Dominic instinctively moved to stop her. If she wanted to rest, she could easily do it right here.
Yet, in the end, he never raised his hand.
Seraphina walked a few steps before suddenly coming to a halt. She turned and locked her eyes on him.
Feeling her intense stare, he tilted his head to look back at her.
