"Lily."
Her voice cracked under the weight of her exhaustion.
"The doctors said I need to talk to you. They said sharing happy memories might help you wake up."
She interlaced her fingers with her daughter's.
"But I've been thinking about it... for the past six years, I can barely remember a single time you were truly happy with me."
She paused, a massive lump swelling in her throat.
"How about this? When you wake up, I'll make you anything you want. Just please... come back to me, okay?"
She pressed the small hand against her cheek. Looking at the horrific bandages wrapping the tiny body, fresh tears slid down her face.
Suddenly, the heavy door swung open.
Dominic stormed into the room, his eyes locking onto the hospital bed.
"How is she? Is she awake?"
He rushed forward, his voice ragged. "The doctor just told me it could be months. What the hell happened?"
Utterly drained, Seraphina refused to engage. She turned her body away, ignoring him entirely.
Dominic opened his mouth to press her and took another step forward, but a broad chest blocked his path.
Gideon had just walked in holding a pitcher of fresh water. He set it on the nightstand and turned to face the intruder.
"What exactly is the point of you being here now?"
"Where were you when your daughter was being ripped apart?"
Dominic's gaze shifted guiltily, his voice dropping. "I had an emergency. I was tied up."
"Tied up?"
Gideon scoffed, his expression hardening into absolute disgust.
"Tied up coddling a manipulative liar, while your own flesh and blood bled out on the concrete?"
Dominic's face flushed dark red, his jaw clenching tight. "Cynthia wasn't faking it. She was in serious pain—"
Gideon stared at him with such cold, predatory fury it practically sucked the air from the room.
Dominic swallowed hard, instantly suffocating whatever defensive excuse he was about to make.
Fists tightly clenched, he looked away and drew a shaky breath.
"Just let me see her."
He tried to sidestep toward the bed again.
Seraphina finally turned around, her eyes hollow and icy.
"Do not touch my child."
