Seraphina gave him a brief look, choosing not to waste her breath.

The negotiations were over, the contract was signed, and her daughter was safe. It was time to leave.

She turned and took two steps toward the exit.

"Mom!"

Lily scrambled up from the carpet, her little legs carrying her over as she hugged Seraphina's thigh.

"Mom, it's the weekend. I want to stay with you, please?"

The little girl's eyes sparkled with hope.

Seraphina looked down, hesitating for a moment.

"You just got out of the hospital, and your body is still weak. How about this: you stay home and rest up so you can recover fully."

Her voice softened. "I'll be going on a trip in a few days. If you want, you can come with me then."

Lily's eyes lit up like fireworks. "I want to! I want to!"

"Do you even know where I'm going?"

Lily shook her head vigorously. "I don't care where you go, I'm going too!"

She tilted her chin up, her voice ringing out crisp and clear. "As long as I'm with you, I'll go anywhere."

Seeing the absolute certainty on that tiny face, a faint smile tugged at Seraphina's lips.

"The place we're going might be pretty rough."

"I'm still going!"

Lily squeezed her leg even tighter. "I'm not scared of roughing it!"

Seraphina didn't answer immediately. She glanced sideways at Dominic.

Standing a few steps away, Dominic watched the mother-daughter duo with a complicated expression.

After two seconds of silence, he finally spoke. "If she wants to go with you, and you have the time, take her."

Seraphina withdrew her gaze, looking back down into her daughter's gleaming eyes.

Lily's voice grew impossibly sweet. "Mom... please say yes..."

Staring at that adorable, pleading face, Seraphina's resolve completely melted.

"Alright."

She crouched down to eye level. "But you have to promise me a few things."

Lily nodded frantically. "Anything! I promise!"
