A small smirk tugged at Seraphina's lips as she spoke in an unhurried drawl. "Of course I had to come. Getting to watch the two of you officially shackle yourselves together gives me immense peace of mind."
Cynthia's smile instantly froze.
Her mouth twitched, and just as she opened it to fire back—
"Cynthia," Dominic interrupted, his brow slightly furrowed. "Go help my mother entertain the guests over there. Ms. Sinclair and I have business to discuss."
Cynthia snapped her head toward him, only to find him looking perfectly unfazed, his eyes glued to a document on his phone. He hadn't even looked up at her.
Her nails dug into her palms, but she forced her lips to hold the smile. "Alright, you two chat."
She turned on her heel and walked away. It wasn't until she reached the far side of the hall that her expression completely crumbled.
Winifred was chatting with Yvette. Seeing Cynthia approach, Winifred glanced past her shoulder toward Seraphina's location. A flash of venom crossed her eyes before she quickly masked it.
Cynthia stepped up beside her, lowering her voice. "Winifred, Seraphina is here. She's over there talking to Dominic. I must say, she really knows how to work a room full of men. Look at them all crowding around her."
Winifred shot another glare in Seraphina's direction, then pulled her gaze back, looking at Cynthia coolly. "I know."
"I doubt she's here just to celebrate the launch," Cynthia continued, her tone heavy with instigation.
Winifred took a sip of her champagne, her expression unreadable.
"Just ignore her. You're about to marry into the family; your focus needs to be on The Lockwood Group's interests. Understand?"
Before they arrived, Dominic had explicitly warned her not to provoke Seraphina today.
Seraphina was now a key partner, and the massive profits from this project were entirely thanks to her tech proposal.
So, no matter how much Winifred despised the sight of her, she had to swallow it.
Cynthia's carefully constructed poise nearly shattered.
She clenched her fists but forced a compliant, submissive smile. "I understand, Winifred."
Winifred gave a curt hum and went back to chatting with Yvette.
Cynthia stood frozen in place, violently suppressing the tidal wave of toxic emotions churning in her chest.
