"You can't come in."
Cynthia froze, her eyes widening in disbelief.
"Didn't you just say you didn't mind?"
Seraphina looked at her, her expression turning dead serious.
"Nobody cares who you're sleeping with. But this is a restricted factory zone. Unauthorized personnel are not permitted inside."
Cynthia's pupils contracted.
"I'm unauthorized personnel?"
"That's exactly what you are," Seraphina replied without breaking eye contact.
Cynthia's chest heaved violently. She snapped her head toward Dominic.
His expression was equally grim, a hard crease between his brows.
"I told you not to come. This isn't a place for you."
Tears immediately sprang to Cynthia's eyes.
This time, the humiliation was genuine. A sour sting hit her nose as the tears threatened to spill over.
She opened her mouth, her voice trembling. "Dominic..."
He shot her a glare so terrifyingly cold it carried zero warmth.
"Are we really doing this again?"
The words felt like a bucket of ice water dumped over her head.
Cynthia forcibly swallowed her rising sob, her lips pressing together until they were bloodless. She didn't dare say another word.
Seraphina withdrew her gaze, turned, and strode into the building.
Dominic followed, keeping exactly half a pace behind her.
The two of them walked side by side, their silhouettes perfectly in sync.
Cynthia stood alone at the entrance, watching them disappear into the facility.
Her hands clenched so tightly her nails pierced her skin, her eyes swimming with a toxic cocktail of grief and seething hatred.
Inside the factory, Seraphina wore protective goggles, standing at the control console to verify parameters with the technical lead.
Dominic stood right beside her holding a tablet. Occasionally, he handed it to her or murmured brief instructions to the staff nearby.
His eyes were mostly fixed on the screen, but every so often, his gaze would uncontrollably drift to Seraphina.
She never once looked back at him.
She maintained an ironclad professional demeanor, strictly engaging with the data and the procedure, completely icing him out.
After a long while, the parameter checks were finalized.
Seraphina pulled off her goggles, packed her documents into her bag, and headed for the exit.
