"Being alone is so lonely."

She adjusted the privacy settings, making it visible only to Harvey Jameson.

After hitting send, she tossed her phone onto the table and sank deep into the sofa.

Less than twenty minutes later, the door to the VIP room burst open.

Harvey strode in. His suit jacket was half-buttoned, and a thin sheen of sweat coated his forehead.

"Cynthia, what are you doing here all by yourself?"

She looked up at him, her eyes glistening and rimmed with red.

"It's nothing. I just wanted a drink."

He immediately sat down next to her and snatched the glass out of her hand.

"What happened to your forehead? Who did this to you?"

She pressed her lips together and turned her face away.

"It was an accident."

"An accident?" He scowled. "Cynthia, who do you think you're fooling?"

She stayed silent for a long moment before finally speaking, her voice trembling with unshed tears.

"Harvey, am I really that repulsive?"

He froze. "Who told you that?"

She lowered her eyes. "Seraphina and Dominic are divorced, but now... he only has eyes for her."

Harvey's expression instantly darkened.

"Did she hurt you?"

Cynthia neither confirmed nor denied it.

She simply poured herself another drink, her fingers trembling slightly against the glass.

"There was an explosion at the factory today. Dominic threw himself over her to protect her. When Seraphina shoved me away, I fell and cracked my head open on the steel steps."

"And then, he took her away. He just left me there."

"I texted him, and he hasn't replied to a single one."

She let out a hollow, self-deprecating laugh.

"It was never like this before."

Harvey's fists slowly clenched.

"Has Dominic lost his damn mind?"

Cynthia threw her head back and swallowed the liquor. Tears pooled in her eyes, threatening to spill, but she forcefully held them back.

"Forget it. I don't want to talk about it."

Watching her try so hard to look brave felt like a physical blow to Harvey's chest.

This was all Seraphina and Dominic's fault!

He stared at her, a violent, suppressed rage churning in his eyes.

"How can he treat you like this? You two are supposed to get married."

"Harvey." She looked up, her gaze fragile and exhausted. "Please, just drop it."

But her vulnerability only fueled his protective fury.

"I'm going to find him."

"Don't." She reached out and grabbed his wrist. "If you go looking for him now, he'll just think I'm throwing a tantrum."

"This isn't a tantrum!"
