"Are you badly hurt?"

"It's just a scratch."

Dominic looked away and continued toward the door.

Cynthia's fingers curled into tight fists.

Before she could say another word, the hospital room door swung open again.

Lily poked her little head inside.

"Dad, let's go see Mom."

"Mom's hurt, I want to go see Mom." Lily tugged at his sleeve, her voice laced with urgency. "Dad, take me there."

Dominic nodded. "Okay, I'll take you right now."

Cynthia's face darkened.

"Dominic, you're so badly hurt yourself. Where do you think you're going?"

Dominic started buttoning his shirt, the movement pulling at the wounds on his back. He frowned slightly.

"I'm going to check on Seraphina."

Cynthia froze.

"What did you just say?"

Dominic gave her a calm look. "Her arm is injured. I'm going to check on her."

Cynthia clenched her hands.

"Dominic, your back is bleeding, and you're going to see her?"

Lily looked up at Cynthia, her little brows furrowed in annoyance.

"Lady, don't yell at my dad. It's perfectly normal for my dad to visit my mom."

Cynthia choked on her words.

Dominic didn't look at her again. He took Lily's hand and headed for the door.

"You should head home. I see your forehead is still bandaged; don't go wandering around."

Cynthia glared at his retreating figure, her knuckles turning white.

He was leaving her behind again.

Holding Dominic's hand, Lily's short little legs kept up a brisk pace.

When they reached Seraphina's room, Lily let go of his hand and ran inside first.

"Mom!"

Seraphina was leaning against the headboard, her arm wrapped in bandages.

Seeing Lily, her eyes immediately softened.

"Lily, you're here."

Lily threw herself at the side of the bed, her small hand gently touching the bandages on Seraphina's arm.
