Seraphina’s chest tightened as she saw her daughter on the verge of tears.

She took a deep breath and turned to look at Dominic.

"Dominic."

The man instantly looked over.

"Get up front and draft for us," she ordered, her voice crisp and authoritative. "I'll guide her. You control the pace, and keep it steady. Don't speed up and slow down."

Dominic nodded immediately. "Got it."

He pushed down on the pedals and surged to the front.

Seraphina dropped back to Lily's left side, placing one hand gently on her daughter's back. "Lily, follow my rhythm. Don't look at anyone else, just keep your eyes on the road ahead."

Lily sniffled and nodded.

"One, two, one, two..."

Seraphina called out the cadence, and Lily pedaled to the beat.

With Dominic up front maintaining a steady speed and blocking the headwind, Lily visibly relaxed.

"That's it, exactly like that. You're doing great, Lily," Seraphina encouraged her.

Lily bit her lip, her little legs pumping hard as their speed gradually picked up.

Seraphina looked up at Dominic's broad back.

"Dominic, curve ahead. Lean hard left, I'm taking Lily on the inside line."

"Understood."

At the turn, Dominic carved a precise path onto the inside track, and Seraphina guided Lily tightly behind him.

The three bikes moved as a single, fluid line.

Ahead of them, another family's pace began to flag.

Seraphina spotted the opening. "Dominic, pass on the right."

"On it."

Dominic veered right, while Seraphina and Lily threaded the needle past them on the left.

Another group overtaken.

Lily was panting hard, but her eyes were shining brighter than ever.

"Mom! We aren't in last place anymore!"

"Yeah." A small smile touched Seraphina's lips. "Lily, there are two more groups ahead of us. Do you want to win first place?"

"Yes!"

"Then listen to my commands."
