Seraphina handed her daughter her water bottle.

Dominic crouched down. "What is it?"

"You're not allowed to fight Mom for the solo race." Lily held up a stern finger, acting incredibly bossy. "You have to let her win."

Dominic raised an eyebrow. "She's your mom, but I'm your dad. Can't you be a little fair?"

"Nope." Lily shook her head decisively. "Only Mom is allowed to win."

Dominic glanced over at Seraphina, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

Lily quickly added, "Dad, you have so much money. You don't care about the prize money, right? Mom has to raise me. She works really hard."

Dominic opened his mouth, completely at a loss for words.

Did she have any idea that her mother was about to be even richer than him?

He stood up and sighed. "Alright, whatever you say."

Seraphina signed in for the solo race, and a staff member handed her a number tag.

Dominic walked over and signed the sheet next to hers.

As he pinned the tag to his shirt, he casually remarked, "Lily told me to let you win."

Seraphina's tone was flat. "I don't need your charity."

Dominic paused but didn't say anything else.

At the starting line for the solo race, over twenty competitors mounted their bikes.

The starting pistol cracked.

Seraphina didn't blast off the line, choosing instead to settle steadily into the leading pack.

Dominic rode just behind her right side, maintaining a half-bike distance.

For the first few miles, neither of them pushed their limits.

At the four-mile mark, Dominic made the first move, accelerating sharply and instantly putting distance between himself and the riders behind them.
