She lowered her head and went back to work.
Dominic had no choice but to take the snack back, crinkling the wrapper tightly in his grip.
Sometime later, Gideon Cole arrived.
The Cole Group was supplying components for the project, making them one of the key partners.
When he walked in, he was carrying a takeout bag.
Seeing him approach, Dominic greeted him respectfully by his first name, "Gideon."
Gideon gave a curt nod in response, then walked straight past him to Seraphina and handed her the bag.
"You must be starving."
Seraphina took it and peeked inside. It was a sandwich from her favorite deli.
She took a bite, her eyes curving in delight.
"How did you know I hadn't eaten yet?"
"Lucky guess."
Gideon's tone was calm and casual.
"Are you almost done? I'll drive you home."
"You don't have to do that. I drove here myself."
"It's on my way."
Seraphina looked at him and didn't argue further.
She kept eating her sandwich, her cheeks puffing out with every bite.
Gideon unscrewed a bottle of water and handed it to her. "Slow down. Don't choke."
Seraphina grabbed the bottle and chugged a few mouthfuls.
Gideon quickly handed her a napkin.
Seraphina set the water down, took the napkin, and haphazardly wiped her mouth.
Watching her messy eating habits, Gideon couldn't help but smirk. He casually picked up the same water bottle she had just used and took a long drink himself.
Dominic's fingers curled into a fist at his side, brushing against the snacks still hidden in his pocket.
His instinct was to walk away, but his feet felt glued to the floor.
That evening, Gideon drove Seraphina home.
The very next morning, Gideon's car was parked outside her building right on time.
When Seraphina brought Lily downstairs, Gideon was already waiting by the car.
He opened the rear door first, letting Lily climb in.
Then he walked around to the passenger side and opened the door for Seraphina.
Seraphina got in and buckled her seatbelt.
The engine roared to life, and they headed toward the preschool.
