It took a long while for Dominic to slowly regain a sliver of consciousness.

The front of the car was completely mangled, his phone had dropped onto the floor mats, and Cynthia's call had long since disconnected.

He twitched his fingers, blindly fumbling until he managed to retrieve the phone.

Half the screen was shattered, but it still worked.

He stared at the contact list, finding a number that had no saved name but was utterly burned into his memory, and pressed dial.

It rang for a long time.

Seraphina had just coaxed Lily to sleep and had barely closed her eyes for a few minutes when her phone started vibrating on the nightstand.

She frowned, grabbing it, and the moment she saw the caller ID, her expression instantly turned frigid.

To stop Dominic from calling her incessantly, she answered, covering the receiver as she walked out to the balcony. She kept her voice low. "Dominic, are you out of your mind?"

On the other end, Dominic's voice was raspy.

"Seraphina... I got into a car accident."

Seraphina's fingers tightened around the phone.

She closed her eyes, forcing down her rising anger. "If you got into an accident, call 911. Why are you calling me? Am I a doctor?"

"..." Dominic didn't reply. His breathing sounded heavy and labored.

Seraphina took a deep breath. "Dominic, do you think I just have nothing better to do? It's the middle of the night, my kid just fell asleep, and you call me just to announce you got into a wreck? Where is your entourage? Where is your fiancée? Where is your driver?"

"..." The other end remained silent.

"Stop bothering me!" Seraphina hung up immediately.

She stared at the darkened screen, her chest heaving as she took a few deep breaths. Despite her harsh words, she knew that if something genuinely happened to him, she couldn't just completely ignore it. If he really ended up dying on the streets, an avalanche of messy legal and personal problems would fall onto her and Lily.

She exhaled sharply, tracked his phone's last location, and then called 911. She gave them his exact coordinates and left her own contact information with the ER.

After finishing all of this, she clutched her phone and muttered under her breath, "What a nightmare."

She returned to her room, steadied her breathing, and quickly drifted off to sleep.

Early the next morning, Seraphina helped Lily into her hiking gear and led her out the door.
