Seraphina merely gave it a dismissive glance.
"I don't like eating these anymore."
Dominic froze.
Seraphina's tone was icy. "People's tastes change. Just because I liked something in the past doesn't mean I still like it now."
"Besides, even if I did still like it, I wouldn't eat anything you brought me."
That single sentence made Dominic's expression shatter completely.
For a moment, he didn't even know what to say.
He had genuinely thought that seeing these familiar dishes would bring her at least a little comfort.
"Seraphina, I just wanted you to have a good meal."
"Then please don't bother, Mr. Lockwood."
Seraphina's expression remained perfectly flat, though she found the whole situation deeply ironic.
During their six years of marriage, she had constantly cooked different meals for Dominic, memorizing all his dietary preferences and keeping strict track of which spices he despised.
But Dominic had never prepared a single meal for her. He hadn't even known what she liked to eat without specifically asking the housekeeper.
Now that they were divorced, he suddenly decided he wanted to care for her.
Unfortunately, it was much too late.
Looking at her distant demeanor, a suffocating tightness gripped Dominic's chest.
Just as he opened his mouth to speak, the door to the hospital room swung open again.
Gideon walked in.
The man was dressed in a dark suit, his tall frame cutting an imposing, elegant figure. His features were sharp and regal.
The moment he saw Dominic, his eyes darkened with a distinct chill.
"What are you doing here?"
Dominic straightened his posture, his face returning to its usual aloof state.
"I came to visit Seraphina."
He glanced at the food container in Gideon's hand, his lips pressing into a thin line. "She is my ex-wife, after all. I shouldn't need to report to you, Gideon."
Gideon's expression remained impassive. "If you know she's your ex-wife, you should know how to keep your distance."
Dominic's face darkened.
Their gazes clashed, and the atmosphere in the room instantly turned suffocating.
