Dominic's expression was terrible as he stared darkly at Seraphina.
Seeing that Dominic was taking her words to heart, Cynthia's smile deepened. "Seraphina, you really know how to enjoy life. You don't have to care for a family or your child, you don't have to work, and you can just wander off to a place like this for entertainment. Unlike me, who actually has to work from dawn to dusk."
She paused, tearing her gaze away from the brightly colored flyers scattered on the ground.
"But, did you forget that you aren't divorced yet? Parading around looking for men isn't exactly a good look."
Before Seraphina could even respond, Dominic's face had turned completely black.
He stared down at her with outright contempt. "Seraphina, if you have no shame, the Lockwood family still does."
Watching them tag-team her like this, Seraphina couldn't help but roll her eyes.
"So you do actually remember that we aren't divorced. Then who exactly is losing face with the two of you parading around together out here?"
Her sharp retort made Cynthia choke slightly, and Dominic's expression stiffened for a second.
Seraphina made no effort to hide the absolute disgust in her eyes.
"Stop playing the victim. What I do here is none of your business."
Cynthia's face darkened completely, a flash of cold malice passing through her eyes.
Dominic glared at Seraphina, his tone dripping with ice. "Seraphina, watch your mouth."
Seraphina scoffed. "Mr. Lockwood, I've held back the worst of it. Since you are so dead set on protecting her, let's just finalize the divorce sooner rather than later. Dragging this out does neither of us any good. Otherwise, a homewrecker is still a homewrecker, and I'm certainly not the one who should be embarrassed."
Anger flared in Dominic's eyes. "You..."
Before he could finish, the sudden roar of a revving engine cut him off.
Seraphina whipped her head around to see a black sedan speeding out from the corner, completely out of control.
It all happened too fast.
Seraphina didn't even have time to react. Her body instinctively flinched backward, but the car was moving too quickly, barreling straight toward her.
The trench had just saved her life.
She tried to push herself up, but her body was completely stuck.
Nearby, Dominic was frantically checking Cynthia over. "Are you hurt anywhere? Does anything ache?"
Cynthia shook her head, raising a hand to smooth her messy hair. "I'm fine, just really startled."
Dominic breathed a heavy sigh of relief, the intense tension in his shoulders finally easing.
From beginning to end, he never once looked back at Seraphina.
Stuck in the trench, Seraphina felt waves of throbbing pain shooting up her back.
Even though she had long known about Dominic's blatant favoritism, seeing him prioritize another woman's life over hers with her own eyes still hurt terribly.
She shook her head with a bitter smile, eventually using the guardrail to slowly force herself to stand.
