Chapter 125
After freshening up, Chiara headed downstairs and stopped in her tracks when she saw Titus at the dining
table.
Titus had already looked up. He set down his newspaper, waved her over, and gave her a faint smile.
“Come have breakfast,” he said.
Chiara had been feeling a bit awkward, but seeing how natural Titus was, she forced herself to act casual and walked over as if nothing had happened.
“Why did you suddenly go public with our marriage?” she asked.
Seeing her about to sit across from him, Titus patted the seat beside him.
“Sit here,” he said.
Chiara shot him a look, but in the end, she sat down beside him.
“It was going to come out sooner or later,” Titus said.
Chiara blurted out, “You never wanted to make it public before.”
Titus glanced at her, wondering if she was upset about his suggestion to keep their marriage private back then.
“I did suggest we keep our marriage private, but it’s not like I tried to hide it. I just never thought the media would be so clueless. Three years and they still never figured out I was married,” he said.
Hearing that, Chiara couldn’t help but fire back.
“Because you were always heading off to Harborton, the paparazzi just assumed you had a side chick over there,” she said.
Titus paused, drew her chair in close, bracing his arms on either side of her.
“Are you bringing up old stuff?” he asked.
Chiara paused, frowning and glancing away, refusing to admit it.
“Me? What did I even say?” Chiara replied, feigning innocence.
Titus narrowed his eyes at her for a moment, then gently tilted her chin and planted a kiss on her cheek.
Chiara’s eyes went wide as she shoved him away. “Hey, what are you doing? I’m trying to eat here.”
“I’m coaxing you,” Titus said with a straight face.
Chiara just stared at him, at a loss for words.
‘Wait, isn’t this usually the woman’s job?’ Chiara thought. ‘How did we end up switching roles?’
She was stumped for a moment before finally muttering, “I’m not mad.”
Titus raised an eyebrow, peeled an egg for her, and said, “Here, have this.”
Chiara glanced at him, took the egg, and began to eat it.
“My phone’s been blowing up,” Chiara said.
“Funny, mine too,” Titus replied.
Chiara gave him a look that said she didn’t believe him one bit.
Titus simply picked up his phone and handed it to her.
Sure enough, his phone was blowing up with missed calls and unread messages.
“Done eating?” Titus asked.
“Yeah, I’m full. Let’s go, time to head to the office,” Chiara said as she started to get up from the table.
But Titus grabbed her wrist, his eyes flicking to her belly. “Did you eat enough?”
Chiara shook her head. “No, I ate plenty. This is what I usually have. Come on, we’re gonna be late.”
Titus frowned but let go of her wrist.
Just then, Lindsay poked her head out from the kitchen, and she knew these two had patched things up.
“Mr. Goodman, Mrs. Goodman’s always had a small appetite. You gotta let her take it slow. If you make her eat too much all at once, it’s not good for her,” Lindsay said.
Titus gave her a look, grabbed a hot dog from the table, and walked away.
‘Honestly, this scene is just hilarious,’ Lindsay thought.
Paul greeted Chiara with a beaming smile. “Good morning, Mrs. Goodman. You’re looking radiant today.”
But Chiara couldn’t help but think about last night, which made her feel a rare flush of embarrassment and shyness.
“Hey Paul, did you have breakfast yet?” Chiara asked.
“Yes, I did, Mrs. Goodman,” Paul replied.
Chiara gave him a small smile and slipped into the car.
Paul closed the car door and turned around, only to see Titus walking over with a hot dog in hand.
Paul just stared, speechless.
“Mr. Goodman, is that for me?” Paul asked.
Titus shot him a cold look. “Keep dreaming.”
Chiara was surprised to see him holding a hot dog. “Weren’t you full?”
Titus glanced at her and handed it over. “Here, have it.”
Chiara frowned. “But I’m really full. I can’t eat any more.”
“Lindsay said this sausage is her own special recipe. It’s really tasty,” Titus said.
Chiara knew better than anyone. She’d been eating Lindsay’s sausages for years.
“I know, but why don’t you have it yourself? You barely ever cat these,” Chiara said.
Titus didn’t say a word. He just held the sausage right up to her lips.
“Eat it,” Titus said.
Chiara thought he was being kind of weird, but the smell was irresistible. She couldn’t help herself and took a bite.
Black pepper, her favorite flavor.
So she just took it from his hand and nibbled on it, nice and slow.
Titus finally let out a satisfied smirk.
Paul caught a glimpse in the rearview mirror, then quickly looked away. ‘Never thought I’d see the day,’ he mused.
Still, Paul couldn’t help but feel upbeat. ‘Guess things are finally turning around for them.
‘Finally, something to look forward to.
This time, Paul drove the car straight up to the company entrance.
Employees passing by couldn’t help but stop in their tracks, eyes glued to the car.
Chiara hadn’t even gotten out yet, but she could practically feel their eyes boring holes into her. She frowned, and just then, Titus took her hand.
“What are you looking at? Let’s go,” Titus said.
Chiara gave him a look, then followed him out of the car.
“Wow, it’s really them,” someone blurted out.
“Duh, the PR department put out a statement first thing this morning. How could it be fake?” another person replied.
“I thought the company’s account got hacked or something,” someone else chimed in.
“Guess it’s for real this time, huh?” someone muttered.
“I never in a million years would’ve thought Mr. Goodman was already married. And to the Lynch heiress, no less,” someone gasped.
“Turns out the hints were always there…” another whispered.
Chiara could feel the stares and whispers closing in from every direction, making her want to pull her hand away from Titus.
Titus shot her a sideways look. “What are you doing?”
Chiara rolled her eyes. “We’re at work. Let go of me. I can walk on my own.”
“The whole world knows already. Why bother hiding it?” Titus replied.
With that, Titus just held her hand and swaggered right through the company’s front doors.
