Chapter 138 Can I Ask You For A Favor?
Everyone kept their eyes glued to the operating room doors, while Debby stood at the entrance and didn’t budge an inch. Charlie frowned and stepped forward, saying quietly, “Mom, why don’t you sit down and wait?”
Debby just stared at the door. “I’m not sitting down. I’m staying right here for Chiara.”
Seeing Debby’s stubbornness, Charlie just sighed and stood by her side.
Just then, Eunice rushed in. She saw the whole Goodman family gathered, but the one who should be here the most was nowhere to be seen, and her expression soured instantly.
Still, she held back her temper and asked, “Charlie, Adele, where’s Titus? Something this big happened, how could he not be here?”
Being called out by a junior like that made Charlie feel awkward, but he really had no excuse.
Seeing everyone keep their mouths shut, Eunice snorted. “What? His wife is lying in the OR, and he’s still shacking up with his lover in Eldravia, huh?”
Thanks to Heather’s call, Eunice already knew the gist, and she’d been burning with anger the whole way over.
As soon as Eunice said that, Debby turned to her and gestured for her to come over.
“Murphy girl, come here,” Debby called.
Eunice glanced at Debby, her face softening as she remembered how Chiara always said Debby was good to her, and she walked over.
“Debby…” Eunice said.
Debby took her hand and gave it a gentle pat. “Tell me, who exactly did you mean?”
Adele’s brow furrowed ever so slightly, and she looked like she wanted to say something, but one look from Debby shut her up before she could get a word out.
“I want this girl to speak. No one else is allowed to interrupt!” Debby cut in, her tone brooking no argument.
Adele just pressed her lips together, while Charlie glanced at his wife, his gaze complicated, clearly surprised that Adele already knew about Titus’s affair.
Seeing that look in his eyes, Adele’s face turned cold, her lips curling in a sneer, cold laughter echoing in her mind.
Eunice glanced at the closed OR doors, rage just kept building inside her. She gave a firm nod. “Fine, Debby. Since you want the truth, I’ll lay it all out for you!”
After hearing Eunice’s story, Debby’s face turned unusually stern. She turned to Adele. “You knew about this all along?”
Adele didn’t deny it. She just nodded.
Debby’s face grew even colder, her voice sharp with anger. “You knew and did nothing? Is this how you act as a mother and a mother-in-law? Did someone marry their daughter into the Goodman family just to have her suffer?”
“Adele, you’ve been married to Charlie for years. Have ever let you suffer in the Goodman family?” Debby pressed.
Adele’s brow tightened. She could tell Debby was genuinely furious and heartbroken,
“Mom, it’s not what you think,” Adele tried to defend herself.
“Not what I think? You just saw those photos! You still want to say it’s not what I think?” Debby snapped.
Adele thought of that photo, the one that sent Marcus to the hospital, and she was stunned into silence, unable to say another word.
She closed her eyes and let out a silent sigh, knowing deep down this was probably the end of their marriage.
Adele glanced at the operating room doors, her gaze flickering with unease. “Mom, I’m sorry, I was negligent. I should’ve stepped in sooner.”
Debby shook her head in disappointment. “I know what you’re like, but did you ever think things would end up like this? How is Titus supposed to face Chiara now? And how are we supposed to face the Lynch family?”
Adele’s jaw clenched as she bowed her head, silently admitting fault, but she didn’t try to defend herself anymore. Eunice’s eyes reddened. “Chiara was over the Successfully unlocked! as pregnant. Every day she waited for Titus to
come home, wanting to tell him herself. She kept walling shopfod had wall through that door.
“But what did Titus do? How did he treat Chiara?

“He promised Chiara he wouldn’t get tangled up with Elaine anymore, that he’d never see that woman again, didn’t he?”
Then, she choked up, unable to hold back her tears. “But now, Marcus is in critical condition, and Chiara…”
“Titus lied to all of us. He said he was stuck in Harborton for work. Chiara trusted him and kept waiting. And what did she get? He flew across the ocean to be with another woman!” Eunice’s voice trembled with fury.
She was so worked up she could barely hold it together. The anger was eating her alive, but she honestly didn’t know who
she should hate most right now.
“Titus isn’t worthy of Chiara’s love. He doesn’t deserve to be her husband, and he’s even less qualified to be a father!”
Eunice spat out.
Charlie’s face went from red to pale, shame written all over his features. “Eunice…”
“Charlie!” Eunice looked at him, her eyes red with tears. “Not this time. Chiara won’t forgive him.”
Everyone’s heart sank at those words, and they all fell silent, their eyes fixed on the operating room doors.
Just then, the operating room doors finally swung open, and the OB-GYN stepped out.
“Doctor?” Charlie started, his voice tight with worry.
“Mrs. Goodman, the patient wants to see you,” the doctor said.
Everyone was stunned, but Debby let go of Charlie’s arm and walked straight into the operating room.
“Let me help you,” Charlie said, reaching out to steady her.
Eunice rushed up in panic. “Doctor, how’s Chiara? And the baby? Are they alright?”
The doctor looked at everyone gathered outside, let out a heavy sigh, and slowly shook his head.
Eunice’s face drained of all color. She staggered back, her mind reeling, barely able to stand. “How could this happen? Why? Just yesterday, we were still talking about whether the baby would be a boy or a girl.”
Adele felt a sudden, stabbing ache in her chest, as if it was only now hitting her that her grandchild who hadn’t even been born was gone just like that.
She felt lightheaded, her knees nearly buckling beneath her.
