Chapter 139 Landing, The Truth Unveiled

Ten minutes later, Debby was finally helped out by the medical staff. She looked completely drained and sad.

Yves and Adele’s hearts sank as they saw her like this.

“Mom, are you okay?” Adele asked.

Debby looked at them, her eyes red and swollen. “Your grandchild is gone.”

They’d already braced themselves for this, but hearing it out loud still made their faces fall.

Yves’s expression shifted in an instant, his hand tightening around the phone in his pocket.

Debby leaned on her cane, her voice steady but heavy. “Chiara wants out of the marriage, and I’ve agreed. To make it up to her, I’ll be giving her all my shares in Goodman Group.”

Yves and Adele didn’t have any complaints about Debby’s decision.

Eunice stood off to the side, nervously biting her lip. Just then, Chiara was wheeled out by the nurses, looking even paler than a ghost.

“Chiara!” Eunice called out.

Chiara saw her and tried to force a smile, but her lips just wouldn’t move.

‘Grandpa’s gone forever… and it’s all because I messed up, Chiara thought, guilt clawing at her.

Eunice squeezed her hand tightly, choking back tears. “I know, Chiara, I know. Don’t try to smile if you can’t. It’s okay.”

Adele finally stepped forward, her brows knitting as she took in Chiara’s disheveled state. “The Goodman family owes you for this. If there’s anything else you want, just let us know.”

Chiara turned her head to look at Debby, meeting her gentle and encouraging gaze. She simply said, “I just want a divorce. After that, there will be no more contact between us.”

Adele’s heart sank, but seeing Chiara like this, she couldn’t bring herself to say anything to keep her. Her eyes flickered to Chiara’s belly, a complicated look crossing her face.

After a long pause, Adele finally nodded. “Alright, if that’s really all you want, we’ll stand by you.”

Ignoring Eunice’s protests, Chiara walked straight into the ICU.

Heather was still kneeling by the window, unmoving. Káson stood quietly off to the side, just watching, not saying a word.

Chiara could barely breathe as she watched, her heart aching so much it hurt. She forced herself to the window, kneeling down on the other side.

She took Marcus’s other hand; it was cold now, nothing like the warm ones he used to have.

“Grandpa, I’m so sorry…” Chiara whispered shakily.

Eunice’s heart skipped a beat when she saw Chiara kneel down. “Chiara, get up! You just had a miscarriage, you can’t be kneeling on the floor like this! Your body can’t take it, and your grandpa would be worried about you!”

Heather’s head snapped up at those words, her eyes locking onto Chiara’s belly. Her voice shook as she asked, “The baby… is it gone?”

Eunice hugged Chiara tightly, her eyes red and brimming with tears as she nodded. “It’s gone.”

Heather squeezed her eyes shut, her voice hoarse. “Chiara, you should go rest. I’ll stay here, I’ll take care of everything.”

Chiara’s voice was icy, cold enough to send a chill down anyone’s spine. “No. I can handle it. It’s just a miscarriage, not the end of the world.”

The Goodman family members who had come along fell silent, struck by the heartbreaking scene before them.

The two sisters knelt, one on each side of the bed. Their grief was so raw, it was almost too much to bear. Seeing Chiara still kneeling on the floor, Adele instinctively moved to help her up, but Debby gently stopped her. “Just let

her.”

“But she just lost the baby,” Adele protested.

“If you stop her, her heart won’t settle,” Debby replied.

Adele pressed her lips together and said nothi

played over and over in her head.

Chiara reached out and softly touched Marcus’s aged face. “Heather, Grandpa’s gone.”

Heather looked at her, eyes red and swollen. “You still have me.”

Chiara’s lips twitched, caught between a smile and tears, making anyone who saw her feel a stab of pain.

“Heather, let’s say goodbye to Grandpa together. I bet Mom and Dad are missing him so much toom” Chiara whispered. Heather was on the verge of breaking down, biting her lip hard, fighting back tears. “Okay.”

Marcus’s passing was kept low-key. Once the sisters had his body cremated, they headed straight for the cemetery.

Not even a funeral was held. She didn’t want to be Mrs. Goodman at his funeral.

She figured Grandpa wouldn’t have wanted all that fuss either.

The two sisters knelt before the tombstone, their parents’ graves close by.

Chiara was expressionless, silent like a statue.

Heather glanced over, her worry deepening as she saw how pale and lifeless Chiara looked.

“Alright, leave the rest to me. Go home and get some rest. If you keep this up, Grandpa won’t be able to rest easy,” Heather said gently.

As she spoke, Heather shot a look at their parents’ headstones, her eyes bloodshot, fighting back tears. “Mom and Dad would be worried too.”

Chiara’s gaze wavered, and Eunice quickly helped her up. But in the very next moment, Chiara suddenly passed out.

“Chiara?” Eunice called, panic rising.

“Chiara!” Heather shouted.

Night had already fallen when the flight from Eldravia finally landed in Halinston.

The moment Titus stepped off the plane, he turned on his phone, planning to call Chiara.

But as soon as it powered up, a flood of missed calls and messages came pouring in.

Seeing all those missed calls, Titus’s face darkened, and a sense of dread started to build in his chest.

Paul noticed the sudden change in his expression and couldn’t help but ask, “Mr. Goodman, what’s wrong?”

Seeing all the messages from Yves on WhatsApp, Titus tapped on the voice note to play it.

There were so many messages, but he only opened the very last one.

Yves: [Titus, Mr. Lynch passed away, and Chiara had a miscarriage. Call me back as soon as you see this!]

Paul was so stunned by the news that he dropped his luggage right onto the floor.

He spun around to look at Titus, whose face was ashen; a mix of shock and dread that made him look almost haunted. Titus’s face was grim as he called Yves back, his jaw clenched so tight the veins on the back of his hand stood out.
