Chapter 140 Spare Her

Chapter 140 Spare Her

Titus’s face was so grim it was almost scary, and he actually swore out loud.

Paul was trembling beside him. He’d never seen Titus lose control like this before.

“Mr… Mr. Goodman…” Paul stammered.

Titus rubbed his brow, lips pressed into a thin line and jaw clenched tight. Looking grim, he dialed Chiara’s number. The line rang, but nobody picked up.

He kept redialing, his patience wearing thin, but every time, it just rang and rang, no answer.

With no other options, Titus called Adele. When the call connected, neither of them spoke for a moment.

Titus wasn’t sure what he was waiting for. His throat felt dry, but he forced himself to speak in a low voice. “Mom, where’s Chiara? Are you with her?”

Adele finally spoke, her voice flat and cold. “No.”

Before Titus could say anything else, Charlie snatched the phone from Adele and started yelling at him. “You bastard! What did I do to deserve a son like you? Get your ass home right now!”

Titus listened with a blank face, but inside, he just felt colder and colder, like there was a hole in his chest and all the warmth was leaking out.

“Where is she?” Titus asked again.

“You’re asking me? You don’t even know where your own wife is? What kind of man are you? I’m telling you, get home right now, you hear me?

“And that woman, whatever her name is, let her know the Goodman family’s door isn’t for some homewrecker to walk through. Unless we’re all six feet under, she’s never getting in!” Charlie shouted.

Titus’s chest felt tight and sore. He wanted to say something, to explain himself, but he’d never been the type to justify his actions to anyone.

“Dad, it’s not like that between me and her. I…” Titus started, his voice strained.

“Titus, none of that matters anymore. Chiara only wants one thing; a divorce. If you’ve got any conscience at all, if you feel even a little bit guilty, then just let her go already.” Charlie’s voice was ice-cold.

When Titus heard the word “divorce,” his back went stiff, fists clenched so hard his knuckles turned white.

“I’m not getting a divorce,” Titus said, his voice low and stubborn.

“Oh, you won’t? Who the hell do you think you are?” Charlie shot back with a sneer.

“All because of you, our grandchild is gone just like that! Titus, how do you even have the nerve to show your face?” he added.

At those words, Titus couldn’t help but double over, pain twisting in his chest. His voice was barely a whisper. “I… I didn’t know she was pregnant.”

“Of course you didn’t know! Everyone else did, everyone except you. So tell me, why do you think that is?” Charlie snapped.

He wasn’t by her side. He wasn’t even in Halinston. There were just too many becauses.

“Because she wanted to tell you herself, but you never gave her the chance! Your wife was pregnant, and you were off overseas hooking up with another woman. Titus, what a fine son you turned out to be for the Goodman family!” Charlie spat.

His rage boiled over, and in the end, he just slammed the phone down on Titus.

Titus bowed his head, holding his phone so hard his knuckles ached.

Paul stood guard by his side, silently taking in every word Charlie said. With each sentence, his heart just kept sinking.

He parted his lips, wanting to say something, but in the end, nothing came out.

He had no words left. It was too late. Whatever he said couldn’t fix this now.

“Mr. Goodman, right now we need to find Chiara first,” Paul said quietly.

Titus slowly lifted his gaze, his eyes deep and old, hid taca

“Yes, sir,” Paul replied.

picked up.

He sat rigidly in his seat, gripping his phone so hard it looked like he might crush it. “Drive faster.”

Paul hit the gas. “Yes, sir.”

As they neared the manor, Paul heard Titus mumble from the back seat, almost as if he was talking to himself. “Am I really losing her?”

Paul unconsciously tightened his grip on the steering wheel. He wanted to tell Titus that maybe he could still talk things out with Chiara, that there was still a chance.

But with everything that had happened, there was just no way he could say it now.

“Mr. Goodman, we’re here,” Paul finally said.

Titus got out of the car in a rush, with Paul hurrying after him. Paul stared at Titus’s anxious, almost frantic back, still in a daze.

Lindsay froze for a moment when she saw him. “Mr. Goodman, you’re back.”

“Where’s Chiara? Is she here?” Titus frowned, his gaze locked on the upstairs.

“No, she’s not,” Lindsay replied.

Seeing how grim Titus looked, Lindsay couldn’t help but ask, “What’s wrong? Did something happen?”

Titus ignored her and headed straight upstairs. He pushed open the door to their bedroom; everything was still there untouched.

Her laptop and personal stuff were all there too.

Still, that didn’t calm him down. All her things were here, but she was gone.

He didn’t even know where she’d gone. He had to see her right now.

Titus turned and headed downstairs, his face grim. Lindsay had just hung up the phone, and when she heard him, she looked up, totally stunned.

Titus noticed and paused, his gaze dark and heavy as he stared at her. “Who was that?”

Lindsay struggled to process it. “It was Ms. Lynch. She said I could return home, that Mrs. Goodman won’t be back, and to deal with her things as I see fit.”

Paul shot a worried look at Titus when he heard that.

“Did she say anything else?” Titus’s expression grew even colder.

Lindsay shook her head, looking completely bewildered. “No, that’s it, Mr. Goodman. What happened between you and Mrs. Goodman? Weren’t things perfectly fine this morning?”

“She was pregnant, why didn’t you tell me?” Titus demanded, his voice rough and strained.

Lindsay froze. “Mrs. Goodman said she wanted to wait until you came back, so she could tell you in person.”

Titus closed his eyes, feeling like even speaking was a struggle. “How long was she pregnant?”

“She… she said she was barely six weeks along,” Lindsay stammered.

Titus gripped the stair railing, feeling like his legs might buckle. But even with his world spinning, he knew what he had to do next.
