Chapter 141
The Goodman family’s mansion was ablaze with light, but inside, the atmosphere felt stifling, almost suffocating.
It was just like the night outside: pitch-black and silent, not a hint of light breaking through.
Everyone in the Goodman family was dressed in black, mourning Marcus’s death.
Titus’s pupils contracted, his steps faltered for a second, but he pressed on. He had to see Chiara, no matter what.
This time, Titus knelt down before Debby, his voice hoarse and strained with emotion. “Grandma, where is she? I have to see her.”
C
Debby kept her eyes closed, turning an old string of rosary in her hands, not responding to him at all.
Titus lowered his head, his face rigid. “Where is she?”
“Just sign it.” Adele looked at Titus’s unwavering determination and let out a sigh.
Titus froze, then turned to see the divorce papers sitting on the coffee table.
Adele continued, “She didn’t want anything, so we set up some trusts in her name. Your grandma also transferred her shares to her. If you’re okay with it, just sign.”
Titus picked up the divorce papers and flipped to the last page. Chiara’s signature was already there.
He knew her handwriting, it was definitely hers. But the lines were uneven, as if her hand had been shaking the whole time she signed.
He gripped the divorce papers tightly and looked up at everyone. “So, none of you are going to tell me where she is, right?”
Charlie stared at him coldly, got up, and walked over. “Do you really think she still wants to see you?”
Titus’s brows knitted, a storm brewing in his eyes. He was getting restless and agitated, unable to find Chiara.
His face grew darker, his gaze turning icy. “I’ll find her. She’s my wife, and I won’t stop until I do. If you won’t tell me where she is, fine. I’ll turn this city upside down if I have to!”
He shot Paul a frosty look. “Get in touch with Mr. Webb. I want her found before sunrise!”
Charlie’s face turned grim, and he sent a slap flying right across Titus’s face. “You bastard! Do you think I’m already dead?”
“Mr. Goodman!” Paul gasped, his voice trembling with shock.
Titus’s head jerked to the side; a man’s slap was on a whole different level than a woman’s.
For a split second, his ears buzzed, a burning pain flared at the corner of his mouth, and the metallic taste of blood spread across his tongue.
But Titus didn’t even look at Charlie, not even a glance his way.
His intense, forceful stare was fixed on Paul’s frightened face. “Didn’t you hear me?”
Paul caught his gaze and instantly shuddered, about to pull out his phone. But Charlie gave him a cold glare, and Paul stopped in his tracks.
For a moment, he was at a complete loss, just standing there, not daring to move.
Chapter 141
Charlie grabbed Titus by the collar. “Why are you so desperate to find her? Tell me, what do you even want with Chiara?”
Titus’s eyes flickered, locking onto Charlie’s. His gaze was dark and unyielding, full of stubborn resolve. “She is
my
wife.
“Now you remember she’s your wife?” Charlie’s face was pale with fury, thinking about the grandchild who never even got a chance at life. Unable to hold back, he slapped Titus again.
“Do you even have the nerve to say that? Where were you when she needed you? Tell me, what the hell were you doing? Speak! What were you doing?” Charlie yelled.
Titus swallowed hard, his eyes dark and heavy. His voice was hoarse, like gravel in the desert. “I can explain to her, I…”
“I’m only asking you one thing, did you do what you promised her? Did you lie to her?” Charlie demanded, his voice harsh. and unforgiving.
Titus swallowed hard, but he couldn’t get a single word out. He hadn’t done it. He really had lied to her.
“I just didn’t want her to worry too much. Elaine and I aren’t like that. I’ll explain everything to her, I’ll tell her the whole story, every last detail,” Titus said in low voice.
Adele walked over and fixed her gaze on him. She watched him quietly for a long time before shaking her head, her voice soft yet full of meaning. “How many times did I tell you not to wait until it’s too late to regret things?
“If you’d just been honest with her from the very beginning, would you two be in this mess now?”
Titus’s eyes narrowed as he looked at Adele, his voice gentler. “Mom, can you tell me where she is? I just want to see her. Please, let me.”
Adele shook her head. “It’s not that I don’t want you to see her, it’s just that your father and I really don’t know where she is.”
Charlie sneered. “Do you even get why she didn’t set up a funeral for Marcus before burying him?”
Those words landed like a punch to Titus’s gut.
Charlie jabbed a finger right at Titus’s nose. “She didn’t want to be your wife anymore, and she sure as hell didn’t want you anywhere near the funeral. Are you finally waking up?
“It doesn’t matter what’s going on between you and Elaine. Marcus died from the shock of seeing you two together, and the baby was lost because she couldn’t handle the pain. Titus, you’re not fit to be anyone’s husband or father!”
Titus’s ears buzzed
ind a total blank. He couldn’t even wrap his head around what Charlie just said.
He just stood there, helpless, not even sure what to do now.
Adele brushed Charlie’s hand aside and gave Titus a gentle pat on the shoulder. “I believe you and Elaine didn’t do anything inappropriate, but all of this happened because you didn’t handle things properly. There’s no going back for you and Chiara.”
Her tone grew more serious. “Now, there are two lives standing between you. How do you expect to move past that?”
Titus’s face turned pale and he looked utterly defeated at Adele’s words, all his strength gone in an instant.
He shut his eyes for a moment, his throat tight and his voice trembling with emotion. “Let me see her, even only once. Please, I need to see her.”
Debby finally opened her eyes, her face stripped of all warmth and kindness. She looked at Titus, the grandson she’d always been proud of, with nothing but disappointment.
“But she doesn’t want to see you. Not now, not ever,” she said.
Titus froze, unable to believe what he was hearing as he stared at Debby. “Grandma.”
