Chapter 149
Chapter 149
As they left the Lynch Group, Paul glanced at Titus in the back seat.
“Mr. Goodman, where to next?” Paul asked.
Titus turned his gaze out the window, his eyes unreadable. “Back to the office.”
Paul shot him a surprised look and asked tentatively, “So, we’re not going to look for her anymore?”
Titus closed his eyes, rubbing his brow. He was exhausted from a sleepless night, his voice hoarse. “Do you think you can find her?”
Paul fell silent. Normally, tracking someone down wasn’t that hard, but with Debby pulling the strings, it was a whole different ballgame.
“So that’s it? We’re just giving up?” Paul asked.
“Give up?” Titus muttered, his voice rough. “How long do you think a living, breathing person can actually stay hidden?”
Paul blinked. “If she really wants to, she could keep out of sight for a year, maybe even two.”
That was why there were so many people on the run. People knew how to hide, how to disappear.
With Debby backing her up, finding Chiara now was tougher than hunting down someone on the most wanted list.
Titus stared at the Lynch Group’s sign on the rooftop, his eyes growing darker. “With the Lynch family right here, I don’t buy that she can just disappear for good and never come back.”
Paul’s heart jolted. “Mr. Goodman…”

Titus’s eyes were unfathomable as he murmured, “Three years, five years, she’ll come back. I’ll wait for her to return on her own.”
Paul gripped the steering wheel tighter, his throat suddenly dry. “But… what if she really never comes back?”
“No way,” Titus said, turning away and closing his eyes, his brow furrowed, looking completely worn out. “Her home is here. She’ll come back.”
Paul suddenly found himself at a loss for words. ‘Just waiting around like this… will she really ever come back?’
He felt it was almost impossible. Chiara hadn’t given Titus a single chance; she disappeared just like that. She must really hate him right now.
When they got back to the office, Queenie was the first to rush over. She didn’t even glance at their faces.
“Mr. Goodman, why isn’t Chiara at work today? I tried calling her, but I can’t get through. Is she okay?” Queenie asked.
Titus’s eyes were red as he looked at her, his voice icy. “She won’t be coming back. Tell HR to start hiring a new secretary.”
“Huh? Why?” Queenie looked puzzled, then a thought struck her. “Oh, is it because she’s taking care of herself and the baby
at home?”
Titus paused, his eyes narrowing as he looked at her. “She told you she’s pregnant?”
Queenie nodded. “Uh-huh.”
Paul kept giving Queenie warning looks, and she finally realized the vibe was definitely off.

But after seeing Paul’s expression, she didn’t dare ask anything else. They just looked at each other, both feeling uneasy.
Meanwhile, Titus had already turned away and walked into his office.
Queenie hurried over and grabbed Paul’s arm, her voice urgent. “Paul, what’s going on? Did something happen?”
Paul stared at her, suddenly not knowing what to say. He just wanted to brush it off and avoid the whole thing. “It’s nothing. Just get back to work.”
“Come on, just spill it already! What happened?” Queenie urged, looking straight at Paul.
Paul made a quick escape into his office, leaving Queenie standing there, completely lost as she stared at both office doors, not sure what to do next.
“Seriously, what’s going on?” she muttered to herself.
Queenie’s curiosity was about to kill her, but with Paul dodging her at every turn, she only wanted to know more.
After work, Queenie blocked Paul right at his office door, determined not to let him slip away. “Paul, tell me, what’s going on?”
Paul gave her a helpless look. “Why are you so curious? What does any of this have to do with you?”
“Come on, of course it matters! Chiara is my friend!” Queenie shot back.
Paul opened his mouth to speak, then thought better of it. In the end, he just let out a long, weary sigh. “I can tell you, but can you stay calm?”
Realizing this was serious, Queenie sat down and nodded. “Okay, tell me.”
Paul could only give her a brief, reluctant summary of what had happened.
Queenie shot up from her chair, her eyes blazing as she glared at Paul. “So you were just lying to me at the hospital? You were part of their scheme the whole time?”
Paul felt his head pounding, his face tense as he gritted his teeth. “Queenie, can you just focus on what actually matters here?”
“The headline is Mr. Lynch passed away, and Chiara had a miscarriage. That’s what really matters, right?” Queenie fired back, her voice sharp.
Paul was at a loss for words. ‘Yeah… that’s exactly it,’ he admitted to himself.
“I keep telling you, it was all just a misunderstanding. Mr. Goodman didn’t know anything about it, and he…” Paul started.
But Queenie retorted, not buying it for a second. “Those are just excuses! If Mr. Goodman was really innocent with Elaine, then why would he leave his wife for someone else?”
Paul opened his mouth, but nothing came out. He just couldn’t find the words.
One misstep, and everything else just kept going wrong. No matter how he looked at it, he’d messed up.
Paul was full of regret now. If only he’d known, he would’ve moved mountains to keep Titus from going to Eldravia.
Queenie bit her lip. “So, how is Chiara now? Why isn’t she answering her phone?”
Paul sighed helplessly. “I have no idea. Chiara’s nowhere to be found, she doesn’t want anything to do with Mr. Goodman right now.”

Queenie gritted her teeth. “Serves him right!”
“Hey, come on, don’t say that.” Paul frowned.

“Don’t say that? Please. If it were me, I wouldn’t stick around Mr. Goodman for even a day. I’d divorce him and cut him off for good!
“Men are all the same, none of you are worth a damn! You’re all just jerks and liars!” Queenie was furious, practically shaking with anger.
With that, she spun around in a huff, but the moment she opened the door, she found herself face-to-face with Titus.
He looked like he’d just freshened up in the office lounge; his clothes were spotless and he looked sharp.
Queenie’s eyes went wide as she stared at Titus, his face totally blank, looking even more grim than usual.
She instinctively shrank back, feeling a chill run down her spine.
Titus shot her a frosty glare. “Have you said enough?”
Queenie lifted her chin, refusing to back down. Hearing all this as a bystander already made her furious, Chiara had to feel
even worse.
When she stayed silent, Titus’s voice grew even colder. “I said, have you said enough?”
Paul quickly got up and pulled Queenie aside.
She snapped back to reality, her eyes darting nervously as she started to stammer, totally flustered.
