“Chiara, are you and Ms. Lynch on your way?” Wayne asked.

“Yeah, we’re almost there. Are you there already, Wayne?” Chiara replied.

“Yeah, I’m waiting for you at the entrance,” Wayne said.

“Alright, see you soon,” Chiara said.

“See you soon,” Wayne replied.

Heather watched her hang up and asked, “Why do I get the feeling Wayne likes you?”

Chiara turned to look at her. “You noticed?”

“You didn’t?” Heather asked.

Chiara shook her head. “I noticed, but I’m not planning on getting into a new relationship.”

“But you’re still young,” Heather said.

Chiara turned to look out the window and said softly, “I’ve got you all, and that’s enough for me. A relationship is something one has to carry. Honestly, I don’t want to deal with another relationship right now.”

“Then just let things happen naturally,” Heather said.

Chiara nodded and then asked, “Why didn’t Mr. Bradford come with you?”

“Because I wanted to come with you,” Heather replied.

Chiara let out a laugh at Heather’s words, and by then, they’d arrived at Halinston University. Wayne was a good-looking guy, and Chiara spotted him as soon as she looked up.

“Wayne, have you been waiting long?” Chiara asked.

Wayne gave them a nod and greeted, “Ms. Lynch, Chiara.”

“Mr. Pierce, sorry to keep you waiting,” Heather said.

Wayne shook his head. “No, I just got here. Let’s head inside?”

“Alright, let’s go,” Chiara said.

The three of them walked shoulder to shoulder, making their way to the largest conference room on campus, where the annual meeting was set up.

“This place is new, huh? I don’t remember it being here back when I was in school,” Chiara said.

Heather nodded. “Yeah, Goodman Group donated it.”

Just as Heather finished talking, Chiara heard someone nearby talking.

“Do you think Mr. Goodman will show up today?”

“No idea, could go either way…”

“Did you guys see the latest news?”

“You mean Titus and that actress breaking up? Yeah, I saw it. I always thought it was a tabloid romance, both of them getting what they wanted. As if he’d ever actually take a starlet home to meet his family.”

“Isn’t that Chiara Lynch, Mr. Goodman’s ex-wife? Is that her over there?”

“For sure. She’s right next to Ms. Lynch, so it must be her. Rumor has it that Chiara had a son with Mr. Goodman. They were seen together at the civil affairs office a couple of days ago, and someone even snapped a photo.”

“A photo? Show me. I haven’t seen it yet.”

“I forgot to save it, and it’s already been deleted everywhere. I’ll check if anyone was quick enough to save it.”

“Hey, these two news stories dropped almost at the same time. Do you think Mr. Goodman broke up with that actress because his ex-wife came back with their son?”

“Honestly, those Lynch sisters are really shrewd.”

“Exactly. Hey, isn’t that guy with Heather Wayne Pierce? How come Kason isn’t here?”

“Who knows? I heard Lynch Group signed Kason for three years, so the contract’s probably almost up.”

“Kason didn’t even graduate from Halinston University, so of course, he wouldn’t show up.”

Their hushed voices carried across the room, impossible to tune out. Even if Chiara couldn’t catch every word, it was obvious they were talking about her.

Heather glanced at her and asked softly, “Are you okay?”

Chiara shook her head with a smile. “I’m fine. Let them talk. It’s their problem, not mine. I don’t let gossip get to me.”

Wayne glanced at her and handed her a glass of juice. “I saw the news, too. How old is your little one? What’s his name?”

Chiara looked at Wayne. “He’s two, just started walking. His name is Ryan.”

Wayne nodded with a smile. “I’d love to meet him sometime.”

“Hey, is that Mr. Goodman?”

“Looks like it, right?”

“That’s Mr. Goodman. Isn’t that the university president with him?”

“Let’s go and take a look…”

When they heard the buzz, Chiara and the others turned their heads to look.

The moment Titus walked in, everyone crowded around him.

Even though Lynch Group had been on the rise these past few years, in Halinston, Goodman Group was still the one calling all the shots.

Nobody could come close.

After Titus finished greeting some people, he turned his gaze toward them.

He noticed Wayne standing by Chiara’s side like a true gentleman. When Chiara caught Titus looking her way, she simply looked away.

Just then, someone came over to talk to Heather, so she stepped aside a few paces.

That left Chiara and Wayne standing there. Anyone looking over would think they were a couple.

Wayne gave Titus a nod from across the room, then lowered his head slightly and spoke softly to Chiara, “Let me introduce you to a few people.”

Chiara instinctively leaned closer, since Wayne’s voice was low.

After hearing him clearly, she nodded, “Sure.”

“Come on, this way…” Wayne gestured for her to follow.

“Okay, Chiara replied.

As Chiara and Wayne walked off together, Titus’s eyes darkened for a moment, but he didn’t let it show. He just quietly looked away.

Wayne introduced Chiara to several people, and she made a mental note of everyone she met.

It wasn’t just Chiara looking to expand her network. People were lining up to meet her, too. After all, she was Titus’s ex-wife and the mother of Goodman Group’s future heir.

This trip was definitely worthwhile for Chiara. She ended up meeting a lot of influential people.
