Chapter 185 Wayne Isn’t Right For You

Chapter 185 Wayne Isn’t Right For You

Titus wasn’t backing down, so Chiara glanced over at Heather.

“Heather, I’ll ride with him. If you’re busy, go ahead and take care of it,” Chiara said.

Heather looked at Chiara and Titus. She had an appointment that afternoon. Seeing that Ryan was fine, she nodded. ” Alright, call me if you need anything.”

“Take it easy on the road,” Chiara added.

Titus carried Ryan into the car, and Chiara followed right behind.

She kept holding Ryan’s hand, her face full of heartache as she looked at him.

Chiara asked softly, “Sweetie, does it hurt?”

Ryan nodded quietly, his voice low. “It hurts…”

Chiara kissed his chubby little hand and murmured, “I’m so sorry, baby. I shouldn’t have left you home alone. I won’t do that again, I promise.”

Ryan looked completely worn out, leaning against Titus’s shoulder with his eyes closed. After all the shock, fear, and crying, he was exhausted and fell asleep almost instantly.

Titus could hear Ryan’s soft, even breathing against his shoulder. He called out to the driver, “Turn the temperature down a bit.”

“Yes, Mr. Goodman,” the driver replied.

Chiara kept a close eye on Ryan. Titus said quietly, “I need to know how Ryan is physically.”

Chiara glanced at him, then at Ryan, who looked so small and vulnerable right now. She didn’t object.

“Okay,” Ryan said.

Ana sat quietly in the front seat the whole way, not saying a word until they got out of the car.

That was when Chiara noticed her eyes were rimmed with red. “Mrs. Walker, this really isn’t your fault. You don’t need to

beat yourself up over it. Kids are always getting bumps and scrapes. It’s totally normal,” Chiara said gently.

She frowned a little. “Honestly, it’s my fault. I should’ve replaced that coffee table in the living room ages ago.”

The coffee table was an old rectangular one with sharp corners. All the furniture at the Lynch residence was pretty vintage. They were pretty nostalgic, so it never crossed their minds to swap it out.

Those pieces had been there since they were kids, part of all their memories growing up.

Ana wiped her eyes. “I’ll go and buy some safety bumpers and stick them on all the sharp corners.”

After that, Ana put safety covers on every sharp corner she could find, but Ryan, being the clever little guy he was, remembered what happened.

After he got hurt on the coffee table, he wouldn’t go anywhere near it anymore.

Titus gently laid Ryan down on the bed and brushed his forehead. His gaze was dark and unfathomable, like he was lost in deep thought.

Chiara couldn’t read him, and honestly, she didn’t want to try. “It was just an accident. Ryan’s never gotten hurt before, not even when he was first learning to walk. He’s always been careful.”

Titus slowly withdrew his hand and turned to her. “I’m not blaming you.”

Chiara watched him quietly, saying nothing. “Thanks for today. If you’ve got something to take care of, feel free to go.” They’d just left Halinston University so suddenly, and she knew people would definitely start speculating.

The thought alone was enough to give Chiara a headache.

“Are you thinking of sending him to preschool after the New Year?” Titus asked.

“Yeah, that’s what I was planning. Did you already pick one out?” Chiara replied.

“Yes,” Titus replied.

“Alright, good to know,” Chiara said.

After that, they fell silent again. Just a little wh Successfully unlocked!haring a kiss, but now there was nothing left

to say between them.

“Wayne isn’t right for you,” Titus said.

Chiara knew he was getting the wrong idea, but she didn’t bother to clear it up. She just said coolly, “One only finds out if

someone’s right for one after one actually spends time together. If it doesn’t work, we break up. Just focus on Ryan, and leave me out of it.”

Titus’s eyes darkened. “You don’t have to push me away like this. I’m trying to help. You and Wayne just don’t fit.”

Chiara finally looked up at him and asked, still calm, “Then who do you think is right for me?”

Titus locked eyes with her, silent and intense. After one last look at Ryan, he finally said in a deep voice, “I’ll head out now.”

Chiara averted her gaze, saying nothing.

After lingering for a moment, Titus finally turned and walked away.

Chiara glanced at the closed door, her brow furrowing. She let out a sigh, then lay down next to Ryan, still clutching his little hand, reluctant to let go.

Her phone buzzed with a few unread messages. She picked it up to check.

Eunice: [Where are you? I can’t find you anywhere.]

Eunice: [I just ran into Wayne. He said you left with Titus? What’s going on? Why did you two leave together?]

After reading the messages, Chiara sent Eunice a voice message.

“Ryan fell and hit his head. We just got back from the hospital. He had to get a few stitches.”

Then she snapped a quick photo and sent it over.

Eunice: [How did he fall? Is it serious?]

“It’s not serious, Ryan just got scared. Don’t worry. I’ll talk to you later. He’s sleeping, and he’ll probably feel it when he wakes up, so I want him to sleep a bit longer,” Chiara replied.

While Ryan was asleep, he wouldn’t feel any pain.

Eunice: [Alright.]

After replying to Chiara, Eunice turned to the person beside her.

“Wayne, it’s nothing serious. Ryan hit his head, so they went to the hospital together, but there’s nothing to worry about,” Eunice said.

Wayne’s ears perked up at the name. “Ryan? Is that the little boy from the photos?”

Eunice nodded. “Yeah, Ryan’s their son.”

Wayne nodded. “Good, as long as it’s nothing serious.”

Eunice studied him for a moment before asking, “Wayne, are you trying to go after Chiara?”

Wayne paused, then gave her a gentle smile. “Do you think I’ve got a shot?”

Eunice shook her head, her voice serious. “Honestly, not much of one. It’s not that you’re not a good guy, but Chiara’s got all her energy tied up with Ryan right now. If you want to go after her, it’s gonna be tough. She’s just not even thinking about romance these days.”

Wayne just smiled. “I know.”

“Then what now?” Eunice asked, a little puzzled.

“Liking her doesn’t mean I have to date her. I’m happy just being her friend. I don’t want to make her feel uncomfortable or anything,” Wayne replied.

Eunice checked him out and couldn’t help but tease, “But don’t lose hope, Wayne. I’m rooting for you.”

Wayne grinned. “Thanks, Eunice. I appreciate it.”
