Chapter 193 A Test Tube Baby
Chapter 193 A Test-Tube Baby
Eunice was stunned for a long moment. “How could this happen?”
Chiara shook her head. “I have no idea either.”
“So the doctor’s solution is for you and Titus to have another baby?” Eunice asked, frowning.
Eunice frowned. “So what did Titus say?”
“He didn’t agree,” Chiara replied quietly.
“What?” Eunice was even more shocked. “Why would he refuse?”
“He said I need to think it through. After all, this is a life, and it shouldn’t be brought into the world just as an accessory to Ryan,” Chiara explained.
Eunice was at a loss for words again. She couldn’t say Titus was wrong; in fact, he was right.
“So, what are you thinking now?” Eunice asked softly.
Chiara shook her head, leaning back on the couch with a sigh. “I’ve been thinking about it all night, and I still can’t figure out what to do.”
Eunice could see how conflicted she was, and she totally understood why.
“Try not to assume the worst. Maybe Ryan really is one of the lucky ones. Maybe nothing bad will ever happen to him, and he’ll live a long, peaceful life,” Eunice said softly.
“But last time he hit his forehead, and because he bled more than other kids, they had to stitch him up to stop it. Eunice, I can’t gamble on being able to keep him safe forever. Accidents can happen out of nowhere, right?” Chiara said.
Eunice was at a loss for words. The odds of something happening to someone aren’t super high, but they’re not impossible either.
“If you and Titus had talked it over ahead of time, having another baby so Ryan would have a little brother or sister to keep him company would actually be pretty nice,” Eunice said gently.
Chiara’s eyes flickered, but she didn’t say anything.
Right at that moment, Ryan woke up.
“Mommy…” Ryan called out.
When Chiara heard him, she immediately got up and glanced in his direction.
Even if she couldn’t be there herself while he slept, Chiara always made sure someone from the staff was watching over him.
“Ryan’s awake?” Chiara asked.
The maid picked him up and then headed off to help out in the kitchen.
“Ryan, your godmother’s here,” Chiara said, smiling.
Ryan looked at Eunice and called out brightly, “Godmother!”
“Come here, let your godmother give you a hug,” Eunice said.
Ryan let her pick him up without a fuss, even leaning in to give Eunice a kiss on the cheek.
Eunice was over the moon. She turned to Chiara and said, “Honestly, having a little girl would be pretty awesome too. You’d have the best of both worlds, a son and a daughter.
“I mean, growing up, whenever I got myself into trouble, my brother was always there to bail me out.”
Chiara’s gentle gaze stayed on Ryan. ‘A little sister… maybe?’ she wondered.
Money talks. The yard was still under construction, but the villa itself was already good to go.
It was ready to move into right away.
So when Eunice saw Titus, she couldn’t help but tease him.
“Hey, Titus, did you move next door for Ryan, or was it really for Chiara?” she asked with a grin.
Titus shot her a cool look but didn’t answer. Instead, he just waved at Ryan.
Ryan giggled and dashed over to him.
Titus crouched down and scooped him up, speaking softly, “Next time, take it slow and don’t run. If you fall, Mom and Dad will get worried, you know?”

Ryan wasn’t really sure what Titus meant, but he still nodded like a good boy.
Eunice was speechless for a while, just watching the scene unfold.
Titus gently patted Ryan’s head and lifted him into his arms, then finally turned his attention to Eunice.
“Why are you here?” he asked, his tone cool.
Eunice nearly blew a fuse. “Why can’t I hang out at my best friend’s house?”
“Your brother’s about to be a dad, and you still have time to come running over here?” Titus teased.
His words left not just Eunice, but even Chiara, frozen in shock.
“Wait, who’s becoming a dad? What are you even talking about?” Eunice blurted out.
“I’m saying your brother Murphy knocked up some girl,” Titus said, deadpan.
Eunice’s eyes nearly popped out of her head. “No way! My brother never said a word about this!”
Titus said offhandedly, “It just happened in the last couple of days.”
Chiara looked worried too. After all, she’d always thought of Murphy as her brother.
“Are you sure?” she asked.
Titus glanced at her, his expression finally softening. “From what I know, the girl’s still in college. It was probably just something unexpected.”
Chiara looked at Eunice, who was still spaced out. After a moment, Eunice came to her senses, grabbed her bag, and started to leave.
“Chiara, I’m heading out,” Eunice said, her voice a little shaky.
Seeing how hurried Eunice was, Chiara reminded her, “Slow down and be careful on the road.”
As Eunice hurried out of sight, Chiara waited until she was gone before asking, “So, what’s really going on?”
Titus shook his head. “I don’t know all the details, but you’ll hear about it soon enough.”
The moment Eunice found out what was happening, Chiara would know too. Those two were like sisters, always sharing everything.
Chiara went quiet for a few seconds, her gaze settling on Ryan’s happy little face. “Let’s talk after dinner.”
Titus gave her a long, thoughtful look before nodding. “Okay.”
Heather didn’t come back for dinner, but the place was still packed tonight.
With Lindsay around, there was never a dull moment. She was from the north, and her personality was as bold and straightforward as they come.
After dinner, Lindsay rounded up the crew and headed next door. The place still wasn’t totally clean, so they had to finish up the last of the cleaning.
“Ana, could you watch Ryan for a bit? We need to talk about something,” Chiara said.
Ana glanced at them, nodded, and took Ryan with her.
Only then did Chiara turn to Titus. “Let’s talk in the study.”
Titus raised an eyebrow at her back, hands in his pockets as he strolled after her, unhurried.
Once they were in the study, neither of them said a word.
Titus just watched her quietly, waiting patiently for her to say something and make a decision.
Chiara stayed silent for about three minutes before finally looking at him and speaking.
“I’ve thought this through. Even if we’re doing this for Ryan’s sake, if we have another child together, I’ll love it with all my heart, just like I love Ryan,” Chiara said softly.
Titus’s eyes darkened, but then he heard her say, “So… let’s do IVF.”
