Chapter 194 When Do We Start?
“Titus…” Chiara called out.
Even though she called his name, Titus kept walking.
He paused at the door and said,
“If I go along with your idea now, and someday our kid asks why they came into this world through IVF, have you figured out how you’re going to answer that?” Titus said.
Chiara suddenly went silent, just staring blankly at his back.
“So you want to tell them they were born just for their brother, not because their parents truly wanted them?” Titus said.
“Sorry, I can’t do that,” Titus said.
Chiara watched quietly as the study door closed behind him. Her expression darkened, and she finally sank onto the couch, feeling dazed and empty.
Her eyes started to well up with tears, and every word Titus said struck right at the things she didn’t want to face. Chiara buried her face in her hands. “I don’t want things to be this way either, but what can I do?” she muttered.
After Titus left the study, his face darkened.
‘IVF?’ Titus mused. ‘How could I have forgotten about that?’
Chiara sat alone in the study for ages before finally coming out, only to find the first floor was quiet and empty.
“Ana?” Chiara called out.
Ana poked her head out from the kitchen. “Chiara, you called?”
“Where’s Ryan?” Chiara asked.
“Mr. Goodman took him next door,” Ana replied.
Chiara nodded, then headed out into the yard. She stared at the wall that had been smashed open, hesitated for a moment, and finally stepped through.
Lindsay couldn’t help but give her a few curious looks.
“What’s wrong?” Chiara asked, not quite understanding.
Lindsay shook her head. “It’s nothing. Mr. Goodman said you were feeling down and told us not to bother you, so he took Ryan back home.”
“I’m fine,” Chiara replied.
When Chiara stepped into the villa, she paused for a few seconds, lost in memories. As a kid, she used to come here during the holidays, always bringing gifts to the elderly couple who lived next door.
The couple had been taken abroad by their children when they got older, and eventually passed away overseas.
That was why the villa was still spotless.
The whole place looked brand new, with all the latest furniture and appliances.
The biggest surprise was in the main hall downstairs. The old living room had been turned into something else entirely. Where the sofa and coffee table used to be, a giant inflatable castle now dominated the space.
There was even a little slide, kept inflated with a hair dryer.
Beneath the slide, a thick circle of wool rugs had been laid out for extra softness.
Ryan was having the time of his life, laughing as he played.
“Daddy, Daddy…” Ryan called out, his voice full of excitement.
Titus had taken off his jacket and was just in a white shirt, sleeyes rolled up. He was sitting cross-legged on the rug, not caring about appearances at all, clapping his hands as he watched Ryan up on the slide.
“Come on, I’ll catch you,” Titus said.
Ryan nodded eagerly and shrieked as he slid down.
The villa’s high ceilings made it perfect for a twice instead of jugular straight one.
Ryan was so caught up in the fun that he didn’

Chiara didn’t say a word. She simply watched quietly as father and son played together.

Titus was endlessly patient, never seeming to tire of playing with Ryan
Lindsay murmured, “It’s been so long since I’ve seen Mr. Goodman so at ease.”
Chiara’s gaze flickered, but she didn’t say a word.
Lindsay shot her a sideways glance and sighed. “I don’t know what happened between you and Mr. Goodman two years ago, but he hasn’t been himself since.
“There’s a whole room in the house just packed with gifts, all for a little girl. He thought you were having a daughter, so he’d keep bringing home presents and just pile them up in there. I know he’s been heartbroken.”
“But thankfully, even though Ryan’s not a girl, you and your child are both doing well. Just look at Mr. Goodman, it’s the first time I’ve seen him smile like this in more than two years,” Lindsay added.
Chiara didn’t interrupt Lindsay. She just listened quietly, showing no emotion at all.
‘So what?’ Chiara thought to herself.
‘Even if things were out of my control, I still made my choice. Regret doesn’t fix anything, she told herself.
Everyone has to pay for their mistakes.
Seeing Chiara stay silent, Lindsay didn’t press further. “Mrs. Goodman, feel free to sit wherever you like. I’ll pour you some juice,” she said.
Chiara finally spoke up softly, “No need to go to any trouble. I’m not thirsty, and I’ll be heading back soon. Don’t mind me, go ahead with whatever you’re doing.”
“Alright, just call me if you need anything,” Lindsay said.
“Okay,” Chiara replied.
Chiara came over, and Titus just turned to look at her when he heard her.
Chiara took a seat across from them, her eyes on Ryan. “Ryan, are you having fun?” she asked.
“Mommy!” Ryan called out, his face lighting up.
Chiara smiled gently. “Are you happy?”
Ryan’s cheeks were flushed from all the excitement, and he nodded eagerly, clearly over the moon.
Seeing how happy he was, Chiara couldn’t help but smile too.
Neither of them spoke to the other. They just sat there quietly, watching Ryan having a blast all by himself.
After a long moment, Chiara finally asked, “So, what will it take for you to agree?
Titus glanced over at her. “What do you think?”
Chiara turned to meet his dark gaze. “You want us to get back together, don’t you?”
Titus didn’t answer, but his silence said it all.
But Chiara stood her ground and flatly refused.
“You know there’s no way I’d ever agree to that. So why don’t you think it over and come up with terms we can both accept?*
Chiara said.
“So, you really think you could accept any other terms?” Titus challenged.
Chiara kept her expression calm. “Go ahead, tell me.”
Titus looked at her, his eyes deep and unreadable. “IVF is off the table.”
Chiara had already braced herself for this. She gave a half-smile and said, “To put it bluntly, you just want to get me into bed, don’t you?”
Titus smirked, caught Ryan at the bottom of the slide, and gave him a playful pat on the butt.
