Chapter 200 Fertility Meds

Chapter 200 Fertility Meds

Paul Lambert was sure he’d heard right, but his shock was written all over his face before he could even try to hide it.

He forced himself to ask, “Fertility meds? Who are these for?”

Titus shot him a cold look, and Paul instantly understood.

He quickly wiped the shock off his face. “Got it, Mr. Goodman. I’ll head to the hospital right away”

Even though he’d managed to hide it on the outside, inside, he was still reeling.

‘Is Mr. Goodman really going to take male birth control pills?’ Paul thought.

‘Why would he need to take something like that?’ he wondered.

As soon as he stepped out of the office, Paul whipped out his phone and Googled it.

‘Why would a normal guy take birth control pills?’ he searched.

The top result said, “Most people take birth control pills to balance hormones or regulate their periods.”

Paul was like, ‘What the…?’ staring at his phone.

‘Seriously, what is all this crap?’ he thought.

He put his phone away, shook his head, and tried to clear all the crazy thoughts swirling in his head.

Days turned into weeks, and before she knew it, two months had slipped by.

The weather was getting colder by the day.

One morning, Chiara grabbed a pregnancy test and headed into the bathroom. She sat down on the toilet, clasped her hands in prayer, and closed her eyes.

“Please, please, let this be the time,” she whispered, her voice trembling with hope.

She’d already taken a test last month, but it was still just one line, no luck.

She gripped the test in her hand, staring at it without blinking, willing it to change.

But no matter how long she stared, there was still just that one line.

She let her hand fall, feeling defeated. ‘Why isn’t it working?’ she thought, her heart sinking.

When she came out of the bathroom, Heather and Ana both looked at her. One glance at her furrowed brows, and they knew it was another disappointment.

They exchanged a look, and Ana spoke up to comfort her.

“It’s okay, Chiara. You can’t rush these things. Sometimes having a baby is just up to fate. And you really need to relax, body and mind. The more you stress, the harder it gets,” Ana said softly.

Chiara didn’t say a word. She just walked over to the couch and sat down in silence.

She just felt empty inside, and couldn’t even put it into words.

She’d spent almost every night with Titus, and she knew her body was relaxed. ‘So why isn’t it working?’ she wondered.

Getting pregnant with Ryan had been so easy.

She’d gotten pregnant with Ryan in less than two months.

And honestly, she and Titus weren’t even together as often back then as they have been these past two months.

Seeing how down Chiara was, Ana walked over and gently said, “Why don’t you two take a few days off and just relax?”

Chiara’s eyes lit up for a moment, and she nodded. “Maybe I should go see a herbalist and get some fertility herbs?”

Ana paused, then nodded in agreement. “That could work. Some herbal remedies to help your body along wouldn’t hurt.”

“I’ll head to the clinic today,” Chiara said.

Heather glanced at the time. “I’ll take you.”

Chiara nodded, then turned to Ana.

“Ana, if you get busy, you can call Lindsay to help out with Ryan,” she said.

“Don’t worry. We’ll look after Ryan,” Ana replied

“Okay…” Chiara replied.

The two sisters headed out together. Chiara had picked the morning for her test, since it’s supposed to be more accurate

then.

“Heather, did Mr. Bradford really quit?” Chiara asked.

Even though she’d been wrapped up in trying to get pregnant lately, she still kept an eye on Heather and the Lynch Group. After all, she was family.

Heather nodded. “Yeah, it’s been a month.”

Chiara turned to her, testing the waters. “Did you two…?”

Heather shook her head. “We haven’t spoken since.”

For two and a half years with Kason, Heather had given up seven percent of her shares, half the company’s profits, and even herself…

‘Was it all worth it?’ she wondered.

Heather had asked herself that same question over and over again. ‘Was it worth it?’

But when Heather saw her team pushing themselves harder than ever, heard them chatting about buying their first home, getting a new car, planning for kids, and picturing a brighter future, it made her pause.

In those moments, she realized the answer didn’t really matter anymore.

Big dreams always come with a price. Sacrifice is just part of the deal.

“Just take a cab home after you pick up your meds,” Heather said.

Chiara nodded. “Got it. I’m heading in. Drive safe, Heather.”

“Bye, see you tonight,” Heather replied.

Chiara waved and turned to head into the hospital.

Heather waited until Chiara was inside, then drove off.

Chiara got herself a slot with a top herbalist.

After taking her pulse, the doctor said there was nothing wrong with her physically. She’d already had a kid, after all.

But Chiara went over her story again, explaining why she was struggling to get pregnant.

The old herbalist listened, then wrote her a prescription for some fertility herbs to boost her chances.

He told her to simmer the herbs slowly at home for the best effect.

As she was leaving, Chiara happened to spot Paul and Yves chatting by the entrance. Yves handed Paul a pharmacy bag, looking kind of awkward and at a loss for words.

Paul took the bag and was about to head out, but when he turned around, he saw Chiara.

“Mrs. Goodman?” he blurted out.

Yves turned too, his face looking even more baffled for a second, but he quickly put on a smile for her.

“Chiara, what brings you to the hospital? Are you not feeling well?” Yves asked.

Chiara walked over, eyeing them both suspiciously. The more she looked, the more she felt something fishy was going on.

“What are you two up to?” she asked, her eyes flicking to the bag Paul was holding.

Paul instantly straightened up, swallowing hard. He could already imagine Mr. Goodman tearing him a new one and kicking him out of the country if Chiara found out what he was really up to.

Paul was sweating buckets, nervously wiping his brow and faking a cough.

“Well, I just caught a cold with the weather turning. Came to see Dr. Shaw for some meds. Mrs. Goodman, you better keep your distance. I don’t want you catching it too,” he said, doing his best to play it cool.
