Chapter 201 We Both Have To Drink

Chapter 201 We Both Have To Drink

As Titus stepped inside, he was hit by the strong smell of medicinal herbs, and he couldn’t help but think about what Yves had told him earlier that day.

Ryan spotted him and immediately ran over, throwing himself into Titus’s arms.

“Dad!” Ryan called out.

Titus scooped Ryan up with one arm, giving him a little toss. As he walked toward the kitchen, he saw Chiara standing by the stone pot, brewing something that smelled bitter and pungent.

“What are you cooking?” Titus asked.

Chiara glanced back at him and said matter-of-factly, “Herbal medicine to help us conceive.”

Titus’s eyes darkened. “Fertility medicine?”

“Yeah, the doctor said it’s pretty effective,” Chiara replied. ‘I’m really hoping it’ll work, so no matter how bitter it is, I’ll drink it, she thought to herself.

“It stinks! It stinks!” Ryan started kicking his legs and whining about the smell in the kitchen.

Ana came in and scooped Ryan up.

“Come on, Ryan, let’s go play. The kitchen smells bad, right?” Ana said.

Ryan nodded and obediently went with her.

The smell of the herbal medicine was pretty unpleasant, so Chiara glanced at Titus and said, “Why don’t you head out too? And close the door behind you.”

Titus did as she asked and closed the door, but he didn’t leave the kitchen himself.

Chiara didn’t say anything about it. She just watched the clock and turned off the heat after thirty minutes of slow simmering.

When she lifted the lid, the bitter scent filled the kitchen even more.

Chiara couldn’t help but wrinkle her nose. ‘Ugh, this is way too strong, she thought.

Titus furrowed his brow, walked over, and pushed the window open, his eyes fixed on her face.

He smirked, “If you want a baby, you should trust me, not those bitter herbs.”

Chiara paused at his words, then used her heat-resistant gloves to pour the thick, dark herbal brew out.

But when Titus saw her dividing it into two bowls, his heart skipped a beat. He/suddenly had a sinking feeling.

He pressed his lips into a thin line, about to turn and walk away, but Chiara grabbed his arm before he could escape. ‘Seriously?’ Titus thought, at a complete loss for words.

For once, he looked truly at a loss as he turned back to face her.

“Wait, you’re not saying I have to drink this stuff too, are you?” Titus blurted out.

Chiara nodded firmly. “Yep, both of us. The herbalist said if we stick to the schedule, we’ll get good news about a baby next month. So you’re drinking it, no excuses.”

Titus was at a total loss for words, just staring blankly at Chiara.

‘Fantastic. Way to dig my own grave,’ he thought, feeling utterly defeated.

Titus eyed the bowl of thick, black brew like it was poison, his disgúst practically written all over his face.

He tried to wriggle his arm free, but Chiara just held on even tighter.

Chiara picked up the bowl and offered it to him. “Come on, be a good sport. Thanks.”

Titus stared at the bowl in Chiara’s hand, at a loss for words. The stench was enough to make anyone gag, but seeing her dead-serious expression, his lips twitched in defeat.

“Fine, I’ll drink it. Just let it cool off a bit first. I’ll go hang out with Ryan for now,” Titus said, trying to buy himself some time. Chiara looked at the steaming bowl, knowing full well it was way too hot to drink, so she reluctantly let go of his arm. Titus spun around and left, and for once, he did they do funny.

Successfully unlocked!

Chiara arched an eyebrow, eyeing the herbal brewinder hand with a hint of mischief.

‘Is Titus scared of the taste, or is he just chicken when it comes to medicine?’ she teased inwardly.

Chiara leaned in for a sniff, but instantly had to turn away, almost retching from the smell.

‘God, this stuff is seriously foul… she thought.

Chiara just sat there watching the bowl, waiting for the herbal medicine to cool off enough to drink. She had to take it before eating, so she just waited it out:

After about half an hour, it was finally not scalding hot anymore. She pinched her nose, gave it a few quick blows to cool it down, took a deep breath, tilted her head back, and chugged it.

She didn’t dare breathe right away. Instead, she quickly popped a strawberry into her mouth, hoping to drown out the bitterness.

But as soon as she let go of her nose, she couldn’t help but gag a little.

It took two strawberries before she finally managed to chase away that nasty, bitter taste in her mouth.

She picked up the other bowl of herbal medicine and came out, but Titus was nowhere to be seen. After looking around, she finally asked Ana.

Chiara asked, “Ana, where did they go?”

Ana pointed toward the next room. “They went next door.”

Chiara was at a total loss for words.

She stood there, speechless for a moment, then glanced down at the bowl in her hand and headed next door.

‘If I can choke down this bitter stuff, he can too. Why should I be the only one suffering?’ she thought, feeling a bit indignant.

Lindsay saw her coming over with a big bowl and asked, “What’s that?”

But as soon as she spoke, she smelled the herbs. “Oh, herbal medicine. Who’s this for?”

Chiara jerked her chin toward Titus in the living room. “He is.”

“Is Mr. Goodman sick?” Lindsay asked.

Chiara shook her head and walked over with the bowl.

Titus caught her coming after him out of the corner of his eye and let out a rare, helpless sigh. “Do I really have to drink this stuff? I don’t think I need it.”

Chiara looked at him calmly. “But we’ve been trying for two months and still nothing.”

“You’re just stressing too much. You need to chill out,” Titus said.

‘Yeah, right. Like I’m not already relaxed enough,’ Chiara thought.

Honestly, Chiara was getting impatient. She was tired of having to jump into bed with him every single day just for this.

She needed to get pregnant, and fast.

She shoved the bowl toward him, laying out his options.

“You can skip the medicine, but then you’re coming with me to the hospital tomorrow,” Chiara warned.

‘And what for? IVF, obviously, she thought.

Her ultimatum left Titus at a loss for words, his throat tight. He stared at the bowl of herbal medicine for ages before finally giving in and reaching for it.

Honestly, Chiara was kind of hoping he’d just refuse and go straight to the hospital. It’d save her a lot of trouble.

She gave him a look and handed him the bowl.

Just then, Ryan came sliding down the slide.

Titus reached out to catch him, but his arm swung a little too wildly.

Luckily, Chiara was quick on her feet. She jerked the bowl up just in time, saving it from spilling all over the place.

Titus was at a total loss for words.

Chiara’s face instantly fell as she turned and stared him down, her eyes never leaving his.

“You did that on purpose, didn’t you?” she shot back.

Titus coughed awkwardly and shook his head. “What? I didn’t do anything on purpose.”
