Seeing the disbelief on Chiara’s face, Heather closed her eyes. “I don’t want to believe it either.”

“It can’t be true! It has to be fake!” Chiara blurted out without thinking.

She kept shaking her head. “No way. Dad would never just watch and do nothing. He wouldn’t! There must be some mistake. There must be!”

Heather gave a self-mocking smile. “We want to believe it’s just a misunderstanding, but people only trust what they see with their own eyes.”

Chiara’s face turned pale, and Titus squeezed her hand, then looked over at Heather.

“What did he ask for?” Titus said.

Heather looked up at him, her gaze wavering.

“He wants Lynch Group,” she replied.

Chiara’s eyes grew misty as she stepped forward and grabbed Heather’s hand. “If he wants us to just…”

Heather looked at her and shook her head. “But Lynch Group is at the heart of our family. I just can’t bring myself to give it away…”

She suddenly fell silent, her eyes staring blankly into space.

‘Did he already know I’d never give up Lynch Group? Is that why he asked me to marry him?’ Heather thought, a bitter feeling rising in her chest.

She wouldn’t give up on Lynch Group. Even if the company had lost its shine these days, she had no right to walk away from it.

Titus caught the shift in her expression and pressed, “What else did he ask for?”

Heather looked up at him. “He wants to marry me.”

“What?” Chiara shot up from the couch, her face full of disbelief.

“Is he out of his mind?” she blurted out.

‘To Kason, we’re the reason his parents died, and yet he wants to marry Heather? Seriously?’ she thought.

There’s no way Chiara would ever believe Kason wanted to marry Heather out of love.

There’s only one reason. He wants to marry her just to make her life hell.

Chiara kept shaking her head. “No! You can’t marry him. He’s doing this on purpose. He just wants to hurt you, to humiliate you. Promise me you won’t say yes!”

Of course, Heather didn’t want to agree to it. But if she turned him down, Kason might really make a move against Lynch Group.

Even with Titus in her corner, Heather couldn’t shake off the things Kason had said. They still haunted her.

He’d spent two years at Lynch Group, and aside from Heather herself, no one knew the company’s weak spots and lifeblood better than he did.

Besides, everything Lynch Group had accomplished in the past two years was because of him. If he wanted to take it all back for himself, Heather had no doubt he could pull it off.

Seeing Heather stay silent, Chiara grew anxious. She knelt down beside her and gripped her hand tightly.

“Heather, you can’t agree to this. He’s doing it on purpose! If you say yes, you’ll never be happy. I don’t care about the company; I just want you to be happy. If he wants Lynch Group, just let him have it!” Chiara pleaded.

Heather still didn’t say a word, and Chiara grew even more desperate.

“After the way he’s treated you, how could you even think about marrying him? If you go through with this, your life will be even more miserable than mine!” Chiara cried out.

Titus just fell silent, not knowing what to say.

He shot Chiara a glance, lips pressed tight, but didn’t say a word.

Chiara shook her head without hesitation. “Never! I refuse to believe it!”

“Me neither. But right now, all the evidence is stacked against them. Still, we can’t stop digging for the truth

Heather tightened his grip on her hand, as if he had already guessed what she was about to do.

“What are you going to do?” Chiara asked.

Heather gave her a faint smile. “I’m going to protect everything Mom and Dad left us. Chiara, this means everything. It’s about their names and our future. I might need you to take over for me.”

“Heather, let’s think of something else. There has to be another way…” Chiara said, her voice trembling as she turned to Titus, hoping he’d have a solution.

Titus couldn’t stand seeing her look so helpless.

“Heather, I can…”

Heather shook her head. “This is between us and him. I can’t drag you and Goodman Group into this.”

She turned to Titus and said, “Since Chiara has you and the Goodman family watching her back, Kason’s got no choice but to come after me and Lynch Group.”

But Chiara pleaded, “If you just let him have the company, he won’t hurt you!”

Heather shook her head, resolute. “No, I won’t give up Lynch Group. If I do, it would mean admitting Mom and Dad were really like that. I can’t let that happen.”

Chiara was suddenly at a loss for words. ‘If we hand Lynch Group over to Kason, isn’t that just admitting everything people say about Mom and Dad is true?’ she thought.

But they just couldn’t accept it. Even with all the evidence laid out, they still refused to believe it.

“Isn’t there any other way?” Chiara asked, her voice trembling.

Titus studied Heather for a long moment, then gently wrapped his arm around Chiara’s shoulders and said in a low voice,” Take a breath. Maybe this isn’t as bad as it seems.”

“Not as bad? Do you even realize what Kason has done to Heather?” Chiara shot back, her voice tight with anger and pain.

Titus was a man, and he wasn’t oblivious. Even though Heather was covered from head to toe, he could still catch glimpses of the bruises she tried to hide.

“Heather’s right. If she gives up Lynch Group, it’s like admitting your parents were guilty. I’ll dig into what really happened back then as soon as I can. Trust me, okay?” Titus said softly.

Heather glanced at Titus, then squeezed Chiara’s hand tightly.

“So, our whole future, Mom and Dad’s reputation, and Lynch Group are all at stake. I’m putting it all on the line because I believe in them. We have to keep digging, no matter what, until we find out the truth about what really happened. That’s the only way we can fix this!” Heather said, her voice unwavering.

Right now, the only option was to temporarily accept Kason’s terms, marry him, and do whatever it took to protect Lynch Group while trying to outmaneuver him.

“I…” Chiara bit her lip and finally nodded.

Heather patted her shoulder. “Trust me, I’m not dumb. I won’t let anything happen to me.”

But the look in Chiara’s eyes and her expression clearly showed she didn’t believe it. She had plainly seen those marks on her body.

Those marks had nothing to do with passion. They were pure pain..
