Chapter 224 I’ve Already Been Merciful
The lawyer standing nearby cleared his throat and whispered, “Actually, according to the latest marriage law, you don’t need a birth certificate anymore. Just your ID is enough.”
Chiara was surprised.
She blurted out, “When did that change?”
“Just a little while ago…” the lawyer replied.
Chiara’s face fell. She grabbed Heather’s wrist tightly. “I don’t care what the law says. If I don’t agree, you’re not getting married.”
Kason narrowed his eyes at the two sisters, his long fingers tapping lightly on the armrest of the sofa.
“Should I give you two some space to talk it over?” he asked.
Chiara stood up and stared Kason down. “What if Heather refuses to marry you?”
Kason’s lips curled into a faint smile, but the smile never reached his eyes.
“Mrs. Goodman, of course I can’t touch you. But…” he said.
Chiara snapped, “So you’re trying to threaten us with the Lynch Group, huh? If you think you can take it, go ahead and try!”
Even if Kason really had the power to pull it off, it would still take him time to make it happen.
“Of course, that’s not all,” Kason said.
He pulled out his phone, swiped a few times, and brought up a photo on the screen.
He did it with his back to Titus, blocking his view.
But the two sisters could see everything clearly.
It was a photo of Heather.
Chiara’s face instantly darkened, and even Heather’s eyes flashed with renewed disgust.
“You!” Chiara was so furious at Kason’s sleaziness that she was at a loss for words. She could only turn to look at Heather beside her.
But Heather was much more composed and collected than Chiara.
Kason remained unfazed, his gaze icy and indifferent as he looked at the two sisters.
“She doesn’t have to marry me. Like I said, I’ll do whatever it takes to crush the Lynch family. I know Mr. Goodman won’t just sit back and watch, but I’ve already said, let’s see who’s really got the skills. I just wonder how long your support can hold up when reality hits,” Kason sneered.
He slowly rose from the sofa and turned his attention to Titus.
“Mr. Goodman, since you’ve done your homework on me, you should know the kind of tricks I have up my sleeve. Trust me, I’m not exactly the cleanest player in the game,” Kason said, his tone full of challenge.
In Mieashy, nobody gets to the top without getting their hands dirty.
He’d fought his way up, step by step. There’s no way he could pretend to be squeaky clean.
Honestly, these tricks were just child’s play.
Back home, his hands were tied; he couldn’t really do much.
Titus shot him a look. “Mr. Bradford, want a smoke?”
Kason smirked. “Sure.”
With that, the two men walked out of the office one after the other.
The lawyer let out a quiet sigh of relief. Honestly, he’d been on edge this whole time.
‘Who could’ve guessed things would end up like this?’ he thought.
“M-Ms. Lynch, are you really going to go through with this marriage?” the lawyer stammered.
Heather’s face was cold and unyielding. “Yes!”
Successfully unlocked!
ng explicit photos of themselves.
“What marriage?” Chiara shot back immediatel
Heather’s face was grim. After all, no one could
Seeing how stubborn Heather was, Chiara was so anxious that she was practically pacing in circles.

Chapter 224 I’ve Already Been Merciful
“You saw it yourself. Kason is bad news. Titus dug up all kinds of dirt on him overseas. He’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants, even using ruthless business tactics that have driven people to jump off buildings. How could you even think about marrying someone like that? You’d be throwing yourself into the hell!” Chiara blurted out, her voice trembling with worry. Heather closed her eyes and squeezed Chiara’s hand. “Chiara, listen to me. No matter what I do now, it’s not going to end well. If I agree to marry him, at least he’ll give me some time to look into what happened to Mom and Dad all those years ago.”
“But if we push him too hard, he’ll target us, and he’ll go after the Lynch Group. Even if he doesn’t have any real evidence, just that video is enough for people to spin a whole story out of thin air. These days, rumors cost nothing to spread. Do you really want to see Mom and Dad getting called out and shamed by everyone? I’m scared!” Heather admitted, her fear showing.
“I…” Of course, Chiara was also afraid, and she didn’t want this either.
“But then what are you going to do?” Chiara asked, her voice thick with worry.
Heather shook her head. “Don’t worry about me. I’ll try not to provoke him. He won’t hurt me.”
“Can you really trust him? He’s got those pictures on his phone…” Chiara pressed, her voice trembling.
“Those were from the island last time. He’s had lots of chances to take more these past two years, but he never did,” Heather replied, her tone steady.
Chiara suddenly found herself at a loss for words.
Just then, her phone buzzed with a message from Titus.
She opened it and saw. [Don’t forget what I confessed to you in the study last time.]
‘What did he mean by that?’ Chiara wondered, her mind racing.
‘He said so much that night. which one is he talking about?’
Titus: [Why would a man want to marry a woman?]
Chiara stared at the message, her eyes narrowing as she read it over and over.
Since her phone screen was privacy-protected, Heather couldn’t see what was on it.
“What’s wrong? Who messaged you?” Heather asked.
Chiara shook her head, gripping her phone tightly, but her mind was a mess.
‘Is that even possible?’ Chiara wondered, her heart pounding.
‘Seriously? Could that really be true?’ she thought, disbelief swirling in her mind
‘But what if everything Titus said that night was true?’
‘What if he really wanted to marry me because he liked me, because he had feelings for me?’
‘Does Kason really have feelings for Heather?’
She just couldn’t see any sign that it was love. If anything, it felt way more like revenge.
“Heather, are you really betting everything on this?” Chiara asked, her voice shaky.
Heather met her gaze and nodded. “I am. But isn’t life just one big gamble? Only this time, I’m risking everything I’ve got.” Chiara clenched her fists, lowered her head, and closed her eyes.
“No matter what I say, you’re not going to change your mind, are you?” Chiara asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Heather shook her head. “Chiara, I’ve always stood by you and supported your choices because I believe in you. Now it’s your turn to trust me.”
Chiara finally fell silent, turning her gaze to the contract on the table.
“But what about having kids…”
“Whether you agree is up to me, and whether to have a child is also up to me.” Heather replied, her voice steady.
Chiara’s eyes flashed as she looked up at her.
Just one look, and the sisters understood each other completely.
That was right. A woman had plenty of ways if she didn’t want to have children.
“You have to look out for yourself. If he ever tries to hurt you again, promise me you’ll tell me. Don’t let him get away with it
