Chapter 229 Can’t Escape Your Marital Duties

After the news broke yesterday that they were now married, all the department managers arrived at the office earlier than usual for the morning meeting.

Heather had just parked her car and was about to get out when she saw Kason’s car pull up and drive by.

She withdrew her gaze, pushed the car door open, and got out. After locking the car, she headed straight for the elevator entrance, not even glancing back.

But it was rush hour, and the elevator was still up on the higher floors. Even she had to wait.

Lynch Group didn’t have a private elevator anymore. There used to be one, but Heather had it opened up for everyone to use, so no one had to scramble during the morning rush.

She quietly watched the floor numbers descend, hearing footsteps behind her.

It sounded like just one person.

But she still didn’t turn around.

Until an arm slipped around her shoulders, and Kason whispered lazily in her ear.

“Mrs. Bradford, did you sleep well last night?”

Heather was unfazed, turning to give him a cool glance.

“I slept just fine,” she replied.

Kason leaned in, studying her face for a few seconds. “Guess you really mean it. Spending your first night alone in the newlywed suite and still sleeping like a baby? Mrs. Bradford, you’re definitely not ordinary.”

Heather didn’t say anything, nor did she push him away. After all, they were husband and wife now.

“Hello, Mrs. Bradford. I’m Mr. Bradford’s assistant, Gael Griffin,” a voice said.

Heather glanced at him. “Gael, just call me Ms. Lynch in the office.”

Kason raised an eyebrow. “You don’t like being called Mrs. Bradford?”

The elevator doors slid open just then, and Heather stepped inside, dodging his touch.

“I prefer to keep my personal and professional lives separate,” she said, holding the door open and glancing at the two men outside.

“Mr. Bradford, are you waiting for the next one?” she asked.

Kason looked at her cool, indifferent face, a faint smile tugging at his lips before he stepped into the elevator.

Gael glanced at the newlyweds, adjusted his glasses, and stepped back.

Heather kept watching the numbers change, while Kason was watching her the whole time.

His gaze was hard to ignore, but Heather just pretended not to notice.

When the elevator doors finally opened, Heather tried to step out, but Kason grabbed her wrist and held her back.

Seeing this, Gael nodded to them and stepped out of the elevator.

Heather frowned slightly, having no choice but to look at him.

Kason looked at her, then gently tilted her chin up. Neither of them said a word.

It felt like there was nothing left to say between them.

But as Heather caught on to his intentions, her brows furrowed, and the cool look in her eyes shifted to one of defiance. As he moved in even closer, Heather finally blurted out, “We’re at work!”

“So? What’s the big deal?” Kason shot back.

Heather pressed her lips together, knowing he was being deliberately provocative, but she stayed calm and reminded him. “We have a morning meeting. We’re going to be late,” she said.

Kason tucked a strand of her short hair behind her ear, leaned in closer, his voice low. “Let them wait.”

Heather fixed him with a steady gaze for a few seconds. “What exactly do you want?”

“Alright, can you let me go now?” she asked.

“Not yet,” Kason replied.

Heather hesitated for a few seconds before finally meeting his eyes. “Kason.”

Kason played with a strand of her hair between his fingers, a teasing half-smile tugging at his lips.

“Call me ‘honey’.” he teased.

Heather’s face turned even icier, lips pressed in a stubborn line as she stayed silent.

Kason just waited, unhurried. “Is it that you can’t say it, or you just don’t want to?”

Heather turned her head away, making it obvious she wasn’t going to say it.

Kason didn’t get annoyed. He leaned in, voice low and playful in her ear. “If you won’t say it, how about we make up for missing our wedding night?”

Heather’s chest tightened, her heart thudding. “You…”

Kason pressed the elevator button, and the doors immediately slid open.

Gael and Robyn were both waiting outside.

Robyn breathed a sigh of relief when she saw them step out. “The time…”

But before she could finish, Kason pulled Heather straight into the office.

Robyn froze for a second, then hurried after them. “Where are you two going? The meeting’s about to start!”

She tried to follow them in, but Gael stepped in front of her, blocking her way.

“Miss Irving, let’s just wait out here,” Gael said.

“Wait for what? The morning meeting’s about to start! Can’t you see everyone waiting in the conference room?” Robyn shot back, trying to push past him.

Gael stopped her again, but before he could say anything, some faint noises drifted out from inside.

Robyn wasn’t clueless. She could easily guess what was happening inside.

Her face darkened instantly, jaw clenched as she shot a glare at Gael, who just stood his ground.

“Get out of my way!” she snapped.

Gael shook his head. “Trust me, Miss Irving, now’s really not the time to go in.”

“I…” Robyn hesitated, her voice trailing off.

She bit her lip, stared at the door for a long moment, then gave Gael a push and stormed off.

Gael adjusted his glasses, gave the office door a quick look, and moved off to the side a little.

Meanwhile, inside the office…

Heather’s calm and collected mask was finally slipping. She still hadn’t gotten over what happened on the island.

“Kason, don’t go crazy! This is the office!” Heather snapped.

Kason looked down at her, noticing how tense she was. He yanked off his tie and started unbuttoning his cuffs.

“Why do you look so pale? Are you scared?” he teased.

Heather pressed her lips together so tightly that they went pale from the pressure.

Her eyes darted around the office before she sprang up from the couch, desperate to escape.

But Kason snatched her back effortlessly, his voice lazy. “Where do you think you’re going?”

Heather turned to look at him, doing her best to keep her cool.

“Not now. Let me go!” she said, voice tense.

“So when’s it ever gonna be okay?” Kason pressed, his voice low and insistent.
