Chapter 231 You’re Really Tough
Chapter 231 You’re Really Tough
Kason walked in and flung the bag of medicine onto her desk, not saying a word.
Heather didn’t reach for it right away. Instead, she looked up at him.
Even though they’d just slept together, there was no trace of warmth or affection between them.
Kason leaned forward, bracing his hands on her desk. He glanced at the bag of medicine and let out a mocking snort.
“So every time we hook up, you pop a pill? Why not just set up a pharmacy right here in your office?” he sneered.
But Heather’s face instantly went cold at his loaded comment.
‘What does he mean, I have to take medicine every single time?’
‘Why can’t he ever be the one to handle protection?’ she fumed inwardly.
Their eyes met, and Kason gave her a mocking look.
Heather pressed her lips together, held his gaze for a few seconds, then looked away and picked up the phone.
“Can you book me an appointment with a gynecologist? I want to get an IUD put in. Tomorrow…”
But before she could finish, Kason cut her off.
Heather looked back at him, and he was just staring at her, stone-faced and expressionless.
Their eyes locked, and even though neither of them said a word, the tension in the air was thick enough to cut with a knife. ‘If he won’t use protection, I’ll just have to figure something out myself, Heather thought.
‘Taking pills all the time isn’t an option. There has to be another way.’
Kason’s face darkened as he snatched the phone from her and slammed it back down. He gave her a mocking, half-smile. “You’re really ruthless with yourself?” he sneered.
Heather kept her face perfectly calm as she looked at him, her voice icy. “Ruthless? Please, I don’t even come close to your level.”
Kason stared at her for a long moment before giving a faint, mocking smile. “Don’t forget to wait for me tonight. We’re heading home together.”
Heather gave him a cold look as he walked away, and only then did she finally let herself breathe out.
Whether it was popping pills or getting an IUD, it was still putting her body through all this.
She was just choosing the least damaging option.
But then again…
His act of stopping her just now must have been him holding back a step.
Heather glanced at the box of pills on her desk, ripped it open, and swallowed one without water.
At the Goodman Group…
“Mr. Goodman, this is the car Mr. and Mrs. Lynch used to drive back then. The car’s already been scrapped, but I did manage to find some old photos of it,” Paul said.
Titus took the file, opened it up, and saw that it was a detailed forensic report.
The Lynch couple died in a car crash, and even though it was labeled an accident, the cops still conducted a thorough investigation.
The investigation back then really did say it was just an accident.
This was the exact same report he was holding. the one from back then.
After reading through the report, Titus picked up the accident scene photos for a closer look.
The damage was brutal. The car was crushed almost entirely on one side.
They’d collided with a semi-truck, and the truck driver was killed instantly, too.
It was only after the police dug deeper that they finally uncovered the real cause of the accident.
The main issue was with the semi-truck that crashed into them.
Experts checked it out and discovered the brakes on the truck were faulty.

The crash happened because the truck’s brakes failed.
Normally, before a fong-haul truck hit the road, the driver was supposed to check everything and make sure it was all working right.
It wasn’t just about keeping themselves safe. It was about looking out for everyone else on the road, too.
But that truck’s brakes were way overdue for a change. Speeding down the highway, the driver realized the brakes weren’t working and instinctively swerved the wheel.
And that’s how he slammed right into the couple.
The cops figured out the cause right away. it was the truck’s brakes giving out all of a sudden.
On the surface, it looked like nothing but a freak accident.
The Lynch couple had a reputation for being warm-hearted and treating their staff especially well.
No one ever suspected this brutal accident was anything but a random tragedy.
Even now, all the evidence made it look like that crash was nothing but a total accident.
Titus picked up the photo of the dead truck driver. “Let’s start by looking into this guy.”
Paul took the photo, thinking, ‘He really does look like a straight-up, honest man.’
Back then, the crash had rocked all of Halinston, but to be honest, Titus didn’t really pay much attention. He’d never even seen these photos until now.
But as he stared at the accident scene photos, his heart sank.
The police notified the Lynch sisters right after the crash.
It’s not hard to imagine how devastated they were when they arrived and saw the scene for themselves.
Heather never actually saw her parents’ bodies. Their deaths were instant, and the white sheets had already been pulled over them. The police held the sisters back, afraid they wouldn’t be able to handle it, but all that blood and twisted wreckage was heartbreaking enough.
By the time they saw their parents again, the bodies had already been cleaned up and prepared for the viewing.
“Get to the bottom of this. Fast,” Titus said.
Paul nodded. “Understood, Mr. Goodman.”
Once Paul was gone, Titus stashed the photos in his desk drawer.
That evening, when Titus got home, Chiara was with Ryan, going through picture books together and helping him recognize words.
“Daddy!” Ryan called out, his face lighting up.
Titus scooped him up and then turned to Chiara.
“He can recognize them?” Titus asked.
Chiara smiled, a mix of relief and pride on her face.
“Of course! Ryan’s so smart. He gets it right away after I show him once,” she said.
Titus raised an eyebrow and ruffled Ryan’s hair. “Yeah, he definitely takes after me.”
Chiara shot him a look but didn’t say anything back.
“Why not send him to preschool early since he’s so smart?” Titus suggested.
Chiara hesitated for a few seconds before replying, “I did think about it, but I’m worried he might get into trouble or get hurt at preschool. Let’s wait until after the holidays.”
Titus gave Ryan a playful pat on the butt. “Alright, go find Lindsay and she’ll take you next door to play.”
The yard next door was all set up for a mini playground.
As soon as Ryan heard he could go next door, he ran off happily into the kitchen.
Chiara quickly called after him, “Ryan, slow down! Be careful!”
“I checked with the doctor today,” Titus said.
“About what?” Chiara asked.
“Pregnancy stuff,” Titus replied.
Chiara finally turned to him, asking, “So what did you ask the doctor?”
