Chapter 243 Not A Chance
Chapter 243 Not A Chance
Jeffrey watched until Chiara’s figure disappeared, then finally turned to look elsewhere.
Titus remained expressionless, staring at the spot where Chiara had just left.
Only when she was completely out of sight did he turn to Jeffrey and spoke in a cool, detached voice.
“You really want to know, huh? Still hung up on it?” Titus asked.
Jeffrey met his gaze. “Of course I am.”
Titus walked over, getting right up in his face.
“It’s simple. She was way too clingy and obsessive,” Titus said.
Jeffrey let out a cold snort, raising an eyebrow. “You really think I’d buy that?”
“Whether you believe me or not doesn’t matter. I’m just giving you an answer, Titus replied.
With that, Titus shot him a sideways glance. “Even if she had chosen to be with you back then, do you really think you would’ve lasted with her for long, given your temperament?”
Men were just suckers, honestly.
He never really got it until he went through it himself.
People tended to ignore the ones who loved them, but kept obsessing over the ones who barely cared.
It was always the things they couldn’t have that seemed the best, and the ones they lost were the ones they couldn’t get out of their head.
Since Jeffrey stayed silent, Titus turned and walked off.
Jeffrey narrowed his eyes, watching Titus leave with a frown, then glanced in another direction.
“Come out,” he called out.
Finally, the girl poked her head out, but when she saw how cold he looked, she shrank back a little, nervous.
“I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, I’m sorry…” she mumbled.
Jeffrey shot her a frosty look. “Go back to your room.”
The girl nodded frantically. “Okay, okay.” With that, she took off without a backward glance.
If Titus was the emotionally distant and indifferent one, then Jeffrey was the hopeless romantic, always getting tangled up in his feelings.
The night went by quietly, nothing out of the ordinary.
Until the sun rose the next morning…
Chiara barely slept a wink last night. Maybe it was the unfamiliar room, maybe it was because Ryan wasn’t there, or maybe it was just all the drama from yesterday weighing on her mind.
She sat up in bed, rubbing her temples.
Just then, someone knocked on the door.
“Coming,” she called out, throwing off the covers and getting out of bed to open the door.
Vera stood there in a spaghetti strap top, waving cheerfully. “Morning!”
“Morning,” Chiara replied.
“I’m here to grab you for breakfast. Go get ready real quick,” Vera said.
Chiara was about to tell Vera she didn’t have to wait, but she held back and just nodded.
“Okay, give me a sec,” she said.
Chiara was in and out of the bathroom in no time, maybe five minutes tops.
She always went bare-faced. Back then, it was because Titus liked her just the way she was, fresh-faced and natural.
Now, she just didn’t bother with makeup at all, unless it was for some special occasion.
Plus, Ryan always wanted to kiss her every day
“You’re not putting on any makeup?” Vera aske
“No need, let’s go,” Chiara replied.

Vera looked at her and laughed softly. “I mean, I know I’m pretty decent, but I have to admit, I don’t look as good bare faced as you do. Your skin is so much better than mine.”
Chiara tilted her head at Vera. Vera grew up abroad, and over there, people weren’t really into sunscreen.
So her skin was a few shades darker than Chiara’s.
Chiara had that cool, fair skin, while Vera’s was a warm, golden tan.
Vera had a few freckles on her face, but somehow, they just made her look even more perfect, adding to her unique charm. “You look great too,” Chiara said.
“Chiara, I’ve actually been meaning to ask you something,” Vera said.
“What is it?” she asked.
“Is there any chance you and Titus could ever get back together?” Vera pressed.
Chiara shook her head without a second thought. “No.”
“Not even the slightest chance?” Vera pressed,
“No,” Chiara replied, her tone firm.
“But why? Why did you two suddenly split up? I even asked Wilbert, but he said he had no clue. And you were already pregnant by then, right? Did you know you were expecting when you got divorced?” Vera asked.
Chiara nodded. “I did.”
“You knew you were pregnant and still went through with the divorce?” Vera blurted out.
“Yeah,” Chiara replied.
“Why though? Did he do something you just couldn’t forgive?” Vera pressed.
Chiara nodded. “Sort of.”
“I thought so. But he still seems hung up on you. If he really cares, then why is he flaunting his relationship with that Ms. Watson all over the place?” Vera pressed.
Chiara shook her head. She’d answered every single one of Vera’s questions.
“I don’t know,” Chiara said.
“Is it really over between you two?” Vera pressed.
“No,” Chiara said flatly.
Vera grinned, teasing, “Well, if there’s really no chance, maybe I’ll just have to make a move on him myself!”
But as soon as she said that, Chiara stopped dead in her tracks.
She looked ahead at the two men, pressing her lips together.
Titus was watching her with those deep, unreadable eyes, his face calm, not showing any displeasure, but not exactly warm either.
But Wilbert, standing next to him, looked even worse. He was glaring daggers at Vera.
“Say that again, I dare you!” Wilbert snapped.
Vera spun around, and when she saw the two guys, she sucked in a breath and grabbed Chiara’s arm.
“When did they get here?” she asked under her breath.
Chiara glanced at them and murmured, “They’ve probably been here the whole time.”
“So… they heard everything we just said?” Vera said, eyes wide.
Chiara looked at their faces and nodded. “Yeah, I think so.”
Otherwise, Wilbert wouldn’t be looking so sour right now.
Vera blinked, then hurried over to Wilbert.
“Honey, don’t be mad! I was just kidding!” she said, then planted a big kiss on him.
Wilbert kept glaring at her, his face still stormy. He gently pushed her off and jabbed a finger at Titus.
“Spill it. Are you still into Titus?” he demanded.
