Chapter 255
Chapter 255
Heather gripped her spoon tightly, but kept her cool as she met his gaze.
“What? Is knowing how to pole dance a crime now?” Heather shot back.
Kason just stared at her, lost for words.
Her pole dancing was never about being vulgar. It was all about power and grace.
She couldn’t remember exactly how she danced last night, but her body only remembered a handful of moves anyway.
To her, pole dancing was a mix of flexibility and strength.
Kason let out a laugh, both annoyed and amused. He tossed his napkin onto the table, leaned forward with both hands braced on the edge, making sure she saw the bruised bite mark between his thumb and index finger.
“Of course it’s not illegal. So, let’s talk about something else,” he said.
“Something else…” Heather turned to look at him, but before she could finish her question, her eyes landed on his hand on the table.
She saw the obvious bite mark, and it was a nasty one.
Heather pressed her lips together, but kept her cool as she asked, “What happened to your hand?”
“What happened to your hand?” she asked.
Seeing her play dumb, Kason snorted. “What do you think happened to my hand?”
Heather finally went quiet. Wait, did I really do that?’ she thought.
‘Did I actually bite him? Did I do that last night?’ Heather wondered.
Heather frowned as she looked at the bite mark on his hand. Wow, that’s pretty bad. How did I not actually break the skin? she thought.
‘Guess I’m not that fierce after all, she mused.
Heather raised an eyebrow. “So, how are we supposed to settle this?”
Heather’s eyes flickered, but she said confidently, “I found a bunch of marks on myself when I showered this morning.”
Kason raised an eyebrow. “So?”
“You already got even, so what else is there to settle?” Heather said, not missing a beat.
Kason’s eyes darkened as he looked at her. Heather met his gaze for a few seconds before looking away and quietly eating her breakfast.
Kason pulled his hand back and leaned into his chair, his eyes never leaving her.
But he knew exactly how to get under your skin.
“So, any new developments lately?” he asked.
Heather paused mid-bite, swallowed, and then shot back, “What developments?”

Chapter 235
“What developments?” she asked.
“I know you’ve been looking for someone lately. Chase, he used to be one of your dad’s guys,” Kason said.
Heather tightened her grip on the spoon, staring at him for a long moment before finally saying something.
“You knew about him all along?” she asked.
“Obviously,” Kason replied.
Heather’s brows furrowed. ‘So he’s known about Chase this whole time?’ she thought.
“So you’ve been looking into him from the very beginning?” she asked.
Whenever Kason brought this up, his tone was always distant, his face cold.
“Of course,” he replied.
He’d known about Chase for ages and had already looked into him, but came up empty-handed.
If even Kason couldn’t find this guy, there was no way she could just track him down like it’s a walk in the park.
She set down her spoon, slowly clenching her fist, and said calmly, “I don’t believe someone can just vanish from the world
for no reason.”
Kason snorted. “What if he’s dead?”
Heather frowned, shaking her head. “But he’s only sixty…”
“Sixty isn’t too young to die,” Kason retorted.
Chase was probably the only one who knew the truth back then. If he was really gone, how was she supposed to investigate what happened all those years ago?
But her thoughts only spun for a moment.
“Even if he’s dead, there’s no way he’d vanish without a trace. I’ll check his medical records…” Heather said.
“By the time you get around to checking, it’ll be way too late,” Kason said.
Heather turned to him. “What do you mean?”
“It’s simple. You won’t find any medical records on him,” Kason replied.
Kason added, “Think about it. If someone never even went to a hospital, what does that tell you?”
Chances were, he wasn’t even in the country anymore.
But if he’s overseas, the world’s huge. Trying to find someone is like hunting for a needle in a haystack.
Seeing Heather fall silent, Kason tapped his finger coolly against the table. “Even if he’s still alive, what if he’s got a new face and a new name? Do you actually think you could track him down?” he asked.
Heather had considered that possibility before, but she still clung to a sliver of hope.
‘If I could just find Chase, maybe, just maybe, it would prove there really was a misunderstanding about what happened back then, Heather thought to herself.
But if someone just disappeared from everyone’s sight, and nobody even knows if they’re alive or dead…

What did that mean?
Maybe they were both thinking the same thing, because Kason let out a cold laugh. “You just won’t quit until you’ve hit rock bottom, huh?”
Heather’s face went stiff. Back when Chase worked for her dad, he had no family, never married, no parents..
He got no family, no ties. It made tracking him down even harder.
Heather took a deep breath and stood up. “I’m full. Take your time with breakfast.”
She was about to walk away when Kason caught her wrist.
“What, did I hit a nerve?” he asked.
Heather paused, then turned to look at him. “It’s not about nerves. It’s just a pain and a mess. Even now, I refuse to believe my parents would ever go that far just for profit.”
As soon as she said that, Heather could clearly feel Kason’s grip on her arm tighten.
She didn’t struggle, just looked at him with a cool, indifferent gaze.
Kason’s eyes were sharp and cold as he stared at her, then he stood up and yanked her right in front of him.
Before she knew it, Heather stumbled straight into his arms, completely caught off guard.
“I’ll be waiting to see you get down on your knees and repent!” Kason said.
Heather pressed her lips together, not fazed by his threat. “Go ahead and wait. One day, you’ll get what you’re waiting for.”
Whether it was the truth or just the outcome, one day, it’d all come out.
“You’re right. Sooner or later, it’ll happen. I’ll stick around and play along for another two years,” Kason said.
For Kason, power and money were already his. Taking over the world didn’t interest him anymore.
Now, all he cared about was the Lynch family, and Heather herself. Even if it was just about winning.
Heather watched as he grabbed his coat and turned to leave. She pulled up her sleeve for a quick look. His grip had left visible marks on her arm.
She massaged it lightly, her face unreadable as she trailed after him.
Since they lived together as husband and wife, they obviously left the house together and got into the same car.
But in the car, they sat as far apart as possible, ignoring each other completely.
It was like any mention of the past, or anything about her parents, would instantly freeze the air between them.
It was almost taboo to even bring it up.
But Gael just pulled up at the company entrance, and Heather shot Kason a sideways glance.
‘Wait, is he just dropping me off?’ she wondered.
Kason didn’t bother looking at her, just said coolly, “What are you looking at?”
“You’re not going to the office today?” Heather asked.

Only then did Kason turn to her, giving her a quick once-over. “What, you really want me hanging around every day? Can’t stand being apart from me? Or do you just love having me in your sight all the time?”
Heather pressed her lips together, then turned away and pushed open the car door to get out.
“Ms. Lynch,” Kason said.
Heather glanced back at him after opening the door, catching his half-smile and the teasing look in his eyes.
“Work hard,” he said.
To Heather, that ordinary line was just him mocking her.
The Lynch Group might still have her family’s name on it, but she wasn’t really working for them anymore. It felt more like she was working for him.
Heather gave a faint smile and nodded. “Don’t worry, Mr. Bradford. I’ll definitely work hard.”
With that, she got out of the car and walked straight into the company without looking back.
Kason watched her figure disappear through the revolving doors before finally looking away.
“Let’s go,” he said.
Gael glanced at the rearview mirror. “You really gonna stick around here?”
Kason pressed his finger to his temple, staring out the window. “Honestly, I wasn’t used to it at first, but it’s actually kind of fun. Like playing with a cat.”
Seeing Kason say that, Gael sjust let it go and didn’t say anything else.
All of Kason’s businesses were based in Mieashy.
Funny thing is, not a single company under his name was fully owned by him, but the number of businesses he actually controlled was off the charts.
