Chapter 259
Chapter 259
Nancy was completely thrown off by Eric’s words. She stared at him, looking a bit dazed. “I-f didn’t
“You didn’t?”
Natalie denied it earnestly, her face serious.
“No, I just thought Mr. Goodman and Ryan looked so much alike, so I took a second look, that’s all.”
Eunice was speechless.
She couldn’t help but roll her eyes at their conversation.
“Eric, why are you teasing her?” she asked.
Eric raised an eyebrow. “Can’t I tease my own wife?”
“Sure, sure, go ahead,” Eunice said, then turned to Nancy.
“Nancy, don’t pay him any mind,” Eunice said.
Nancy was about to nod, but when she caught Eric’s teasing, half-smiling glance, she lost her nerve and didn’t dare answer Eunice.
She bit her lip and sneaked a tug at his sleeve.
Eunice just couldn’t watch anymore and shook her head in exasperation.
“Nancy, you let my brother walk all over you. Can’t you be a little tougher? You’re pregnant now, you’re the most important in our family. Why are you afraid of him?”
Nancy’s cheeks flushed, and she quickly pulled her hand back, avoiding Eric’s gaze.
But Eric caught her hand and held it in his palm, absently toying with her fingers.
Only then did Nancy finally look up at him, a shy smile curling on her lips.
“Eunice, don’t go filling her head with nonsense,” Eric said.
Eunice rolled her eyes so hard it was almost comical. She clearly wasn’t ready to drop the subject.
“You still haven’t answered my question,” she pressed.
Eric shot her a cool look in the rearview mirror. “If you’re so curious, why don’t you just ask Titus?”
“Why should I ask him? Isn’t asking you just as good?”
“Ask me, and I’ll just say I don’t know.”
Eunice was lost for words.
“You must’ve somehow gotten on his bad side,” she said.
Because of Chiara, Eunice had ended up knowing a bit about Titus.
Eric just shot a look in the rearview mirror, spun the wheel, and changed lanes.

Chapter 259
Days slipped by, and before anyone knew it, autumn in Halinston was gone, and winter had arrived.
Chiara would take Ryan to Apex International Kindergarten every day so he could hang out with his friends for a little while
Pretty soon, Ryan was the one pestering her to go to kindergarten every single day, so Chiara decided to send him to school earlier than planned.
She could see that Ryan was really happy at the kindergarten.
Compared to being at home, he just didn’t seem as cheerful.
“Ms. Lynch, you can rest assured leaving Ryan with us. We’ll make sure he’s perfectly safe. We’ve already cleared out anything sharp, and all the tables and chairs have been child-proofed,” Renee said.
“Thank you so much, Ms. Palmer, and Ms. Larkin, for taking such good care of him,” Chiara said.
“Of course, it’s what we’re here for,” Renee replied.
Chiara crouched down to Ryan’s level. “Ryan, be a good boy to your teacher, okay? I’m going to head home now, but I’ll come and pick you up after school, alright?”
Ryan nodded happily, not even a hint of tears in his eyes.
He already loved how fun kindergarten was.
“Okay, I’m leaving now. See you later, alright?” Chiara said.
“Okay, bye-bye,” Ryan replied.
Chiara gave him a quick kiss on the cheek before standing up to leave. As she reached the door, she glanced back and saw Ryan already being carried inside by Sarah.
When Ryan saw her looking back, he grinned and waved at her.
Seeing how independent he was, Chiara finally felt a wave of relief.
Honestly, she’d been a little worried that Ryan would get upset or start crying when he had to leave her for kindergarten.
But letting him get used to his classmates and teachers ahead of time really paid off.
Once she stepped outside, Chiara felt a strange emptiness in her chest. She sat in her car, gazing at the bright, cheerful kindergarten, then pulled out her phone and opened up the live cam from the kindergarten app.
Ryan was on the screen, busy with a puzzle and surrounded by his little friends. She couldn’t tear her eyes away for a full five minutes before she finally forced herself to put her phone down.
With Ryan off at kindergarten, home just felt empty, so Chiara decided to go to work instead.
Heather blinked in surprise when she saw Chiara. “Why are you here at this hour? Where’s Ryan?”
“I just took him to kindergarten,” Chiara replied.
“Was it today?” Heather asked.
“Yeah, I took him there just now,” Chiara said.
Heather gave her a look. “Weren’t you going to wait until after the New Year?”
“I was planning to wait, but Ryan really likes it there.” Chiara said.

Heather nodded. “Do you want something to drink?”
“No, I’m good. I just came to see you,” Chiara replied.
Heather gave her a knowing smile, got up from her chair, and sat down on the couch.
“You’re not used to it yet, are you?” Heather asked.
Chiara nodded. “Yeah, it’s a little weird. With Ryan out of the house, I honestly have no idea what to do with myself.”
“You’ll get used to it. Everyone goes through this,” Heather said.
“Honestly, Ryan’s adjusting way better than I am,” Chiara sighed.
Heather shook her head with a laugh. “Feeling a little down?”
“Just a bit,” Chiara admitted.
The office door was pushed open, and both sisters looked up.
Kason was the only one who’d ever just walk in without knocking.
When Chiara saw Kason, her feelings were all over the place. She couldn’t even describe them.
Kason glanced at Chiara, a smirk on his lips. “Well, look who’s here.”
Chiara thought having Kason around Heather was like keeping a live grenade in the room.
Heather just asked calmly, “What’s up?”
“Sign this,” Kason said.
Heather glanced at the document he handed over, then frowned at him. “I thought I already said no to this proposal.”
“Your rejection doesn’t matter,” Kason replied.
“Since you don’t care what I think, why even ask me?” Heather shot back.
Chiara gave them a frown and stood up from the couch.
“Heather, I’m leaving,” Chiara said.
Heather glanced at her and nodded. “I’ll be home for dinner tonight.”
Chiara looked at her, and she suddenly remembered that it was their mother’s birthday today.
She almost forgot because Ryan was on her mind lately.
“Sure, I’ll have Ana whip up a few more dishes,” Chiara said.
Heather nodded.
Chiara nodded at Kason before heading out.
