Chapter 261
“You can always choose not to look,” Heather snapped back.

Kason squinted, grinning as he tapped her cheek. “Do you even know how to smile? Show me.”
Heather slapped his hand away, her voice cold. “If you want to see someone put on a fake smile, go find a working girl.”
“Fair point, but honestly, none of those women can pull off a smile as you do. Come on, give me one.”
Heather stared at him with utter disgust.
“Kason, don’t go poking at other people’s wounds. Sooner or later, it’s going to come back to bite you,” Heather said coldly.
“Come back to bite me?” Kason snorted. “Sure. I’ll be waiting to see if your words actually catch up with me.”
Heather clenched her fists, then forced a smile at him, just like he wanted. “Trust me, it will.”
Kason caught the unwavering determination in her eyes, his lips curling with cool indifference. He grabbed the bag beside him and tossed it into her lap.
“Change into these,” he ordered.
Heather didn’t ask what was in the bag, nor did she ask where he was taking her.
She didn’t believe Kason would ever sell her off. After all, she was his legal wife now. At least for now, they were on the same side.
Heather glanced up at Gael, Kason’s assistant, who was so quiet he might as well have been invisible.
Seeing her look ahead, Kason followed her gaze and said, “Don’t worry, he won’t peek.”
Heather ignored him and addressed Gael, “Gael, could you please raise the partition?”
Lucas finally glanced up in the rearview mirror, nodded, and slowly raised the partition between the front and back seats.
Heather pulled the dress out of the bag. It was a simple, elegant black strapless gown..
Judging by the dress, Heather figured Kason was taking her somewhere formal.
That put her at ease a little, though she knew all eyes were on her.
She stripped off her clothes, slipped the dress over her head, and finally slipped out of her pants, smoothing out the hem.
She pulled out the only makeup item in the bag, a tube of lipstick.
Just as she was about to apply it, Kason reached over and took it from her.
Heather turned to him, frowning. “What are you doing?”
“Let me do it,” Kason said.
“No need,” Heather rejected, her brows knitting.
“You need my help,” Kason said, grabbing the back of her head with a firm grip, his voice low and commanding. “Don’t move. If it gets smudged, that’s on you.”
Heather squirmed a bit, but soon gave up. Not wanting to see Kason’s face so close, she just squeezed her eyes shut.

To her surprise, Kašon was actually pretty careful as he applied the lipstick to her lips.
He leisurely finished with her lower lip, then used the pad of his finger to softly trace her upper lip.
Heather’s lips were strikingly beautiful, a perfect M-shape.

Just looking at her made Kason want to kiss her. He reached out and wiped the fresh color from her lower lip with his finger.
Heather noticed what he was doing and had to open her eyes.
“What are you-” she started.
But before Heather could get the words out, Kason caught her lips in a quick bite.
She winced from the sting, which was just the chance Kason needed.
By the time he finally let go, Heather’s lips were flushed and vivid. She didn’t need lipstick anymore.
But that kind of color was way too obvious. Anyone could tell at a glance what had just gone down.
Heather shoved him away, shot him a glare, but didn’t say a word.
Kason raised an eyebrow, his lips curling in a sly little smile.
Heather snatched her lipstick, swiped it on with practiced ease, then turned away to gaze out the window, saying nothing.
Be it anger or resentment, her emotions were all tangled up, and it’d be a while before she could calm down.
When they arrived, Heather realized it was an auction gala.
Both Kason and Heather were celebrity entrepreneurs in Halinston whom everyone talked about.

Everyone there was already on a first-name basis. Even if they’d never worked together, everyone knew each other’s business.
“Mr. Bradford, Mrs. Bradford, your seats are this way. Please follow me,” a staff member said.
Kason led Heather over, and they took their seats.
Heather immediately withdrew her hand from the crook of his arm.
Kason shot her a look and handed her the auction catalog.
“Check it out,” he said.
Heather took it and saw that it listed everything up for auction that night.
“So, which one do you want to bid on?” Heather asked.
But Kason just replied, “Whatever catches your eye, I’ll bid on it for you.”
As soon as Heather realized he was doing this for her, she snapped the catalog shut.
‘I don’t like any of them, and I don’t need any of them,” she said flatly.
“Are you sure?” Kason asked.
“Yeah,” Heather replied.

She didn’t even bother to flip through the whole thing.
“Did you see the emerald pendant in there?” Kason asked.
Heather had no choice but to flip the catalog open again. “This emerald pendant?”
“Yeah, bid for it later,” Kason said.
Heather shot him a sideways glance. “Do you like it?”

Kason raised an eyebrow, leaned in close to her ear, and whispered, “I don’t like it, but I need to give it to someone else who likes it.”
Heather shifted away from him, her tone flat. “Got it.”
The auction was about to kick off when Kason suddenly got up and headed out.
Heather instinctively turned her head, and just as she was about to look away, she caught sight of a seductively beautiful woman rising from her seat and trailing after him.
Heather glanced at the spot where the woman had been sitting. It looked like she’d come alone.
She shot another look toward where the two had gone off to, only snapping back to attention when the host’s voice echoed from the stage.
Heather kept her eyes locked on the auction stage, and it didn’t take long before the emerald pendant made its appearance.
She bid on it without hesitation, accepted the box from the staff, and set off to look for Kason.
But after scanning the crowd and realizing he was nowhere to be seen, she could only follow the direction he’d disappeared in.
Heather asked a staff member, “Hey, have you seen Kason?”
The staff member seemed to know where Kason was. His expression shifted subtly. “Mrs. Bradford…”
Heather held his gaze for a moment, then said, “Don’t worry, I won’t say you told me.”
He pointed in a direction and whispered, “I just came from over there. Mr. Bradford’s in that room, but he’s not alone.”
Heather knew what he meant. She kept her cool, flashed the staff member a small smile, and nodded her thanks.
“Got it, thanks,” Heather said.
“Yeah, sure,” the staff member replied.
Heather glanced in that direction, then looked down at the emerald pendant she was holding. After a moment’s thought, she headed that way.
She saw that the door wasn’t fully shut. Just as she was about to push it open, she overheard a woman inside, her voice pouty and full of grievance.
“Why did you suddenly get married? Weren’t you always all about never tying the knot? You lied to me,” the woman whined.
“What could I do? She’s got dirt on me. If I didn’t marry her, I’d be screwed,” Kason replied.
Heather’s expression instantly turned icy at Kason’s shameless words.
But instead of barging in, she pulled her hand back. She thought, ‘I might as well eavesdrop a bit longer and see what else

they’ll say.’
“What kind of dirt? How did Heather get something on you? You’re not lying to me again, are you? Just be honest. Did you marry her because you like her?”
“Haven’t you been keeping up with my news lately?”
“Of course I have. That’s why I find it strange. Since you’re already married to Heather, why are you still messing around with other women?”
“Who says I can’t mess around with women just because I’m married?”
“Then I want to mess around with you, too.”
