Chapter 269
Chapter 269
Kason turned her face toward him. Heather instinctively opened her eyes, meeting his gaze head-on.
Kason held her gaze for a few seconds before finally asking, “Should I apply it for you, or do you want to do it yourself?”
Heather didn’t say a word, just kept staring at him. Kason didn’t rush her. He just watched her quietly, waiting for her to respond.
The two of them just kept looking at each other, neither saying a word. Gael, up in the front seat, shot a look at the rearview mirror, but kept quiet, too.
Kason waited for quite a while, but Heather still didn’t say a word. She was staring right at him, but she looked totally spaced out, like her mind was off somewhere else.
“Am I applying it for you, or are you doing it yourself?” Kason asked again.
Heather’s eyes flickered as she looked at Kason’s handsome face. Suddenly, she blurted out, “I can’t see.”
Kason was clearly taken aback by her words. He stared at her, his eyes darkening, and she met his gaze without flinching.
In the end, Kason looked away, picked up the ointment, and gently applied it to the cut at the corner of her mouth.
If she’d just cooperated last night, she wouldn’t have gotten hurt; he’d only ended up cutting her lip because he forced her. Honestly, it wasn’t all that great for him either.
“Use it twice a day,” he said, tossing the ointment into her lap.
Heather just stared down at the ointment in her lap, not saying a word or moving at all.
Kason handed her a box of digestive tablets. “You can take your own medicine now, right? No need for someone to feed you?” he asked.
Heather’s stomach was really acting up, so she didn’t refuse. She took the box, opened it, glanced at the instructions, picked out a few pills, and chewed them slowly.
Kason turned his gaze to the window, resting his fingers against his forehead. Neither of them said a word the whole ride. Not a single word was exchanged all the way to the office.
As they stepped out of the elevator, Heather watched Kason and Gael as they walked away, falling silent in her thoughts. Maybe she couldn’t calm down before, but now she finally felt herself steadying.
‘Why is he doing all this? He acts like he cares, but what’s he really thinking?’ she wondered.
He seemed to hate her, but there was something more; something she couldn’t name. Heather still couldn’t make sense of it. and she wasn’t sure what to think.
“Ms. Lynch, you’re back?” Charlotte greeted, sounding a bit surprised.
Heather snapped out of her thoughts, glanced at her, and shook her head. “It’s nothing. Did you have lunch yet?”
“Yeah, I ate in the company cafeteria. Did you eat too?” she replied.
Heather nodded. “Alright, let’s get to work. Hand me Mr. Pierce’s contract.”
“Yes, Ms. Lynch,” Charlotte replied.
Meanwhile, Gael watched as Kason took off his coat, pulled up his chair, and sat down. “What kind of game are you two

playing?” he asked, curious.
Kason glanced up at him, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. “Playing what?”
Gael shot him a look but didn’t bother to answer. “All the Mieashy files are in your inbox. If you’ve got time to play games, maybe you should handle some real business,” he said.
“Got it,” Kason replied.
Gael shot him a look, then turned and walked out of the office. Once Lucas left, Kason leaned back, swiveled his chair to face away from the door, and gazed out the window.
‘Playing what?’ he thought, a hint of amusement flickering in his mind. Obviously, it was just an age-old game between men and women. Who’d end up winning, though….
Remembering how lost in thought Heather had looked in the car, Kason’s lips tugged into a barely-there smirk. Turns out, trying to humiliate her didn’t really hurt her much.
‘Guess I’ll have to switch tactics, Kason thought.
He picked up his phone from the desk and sent a message to Heather: [Let’s go home together tonight.]
Heather stared at her phone for a long while after getting the message, before finally setting it aside. She finally knew her
next move.
She was going to put Kason to the test and figure out what he really felt about her. Sometimes, emotions were the sharpest
weapons.
Maybe it was time to switch things up. Who knows, perhaps this new tactic would actually pay off. Heather then typed out a line on her computer.
‘Go gentle to win against force,’ she mused, ‘And maybe this is the way…

As the New Year approached, the weather grew colder by the day. Chiara wasn’t sure if Heather would be able to come home for New Year’s this year, but she didn’t think so..
She sighed, pulled out her phone, and pulled up the kindergarten’s live feed. She just wanted to see what Ryan was up to.
But after flipping through several surveillance feeds, she still couldn’t find Ryan anywhere on the screens. She frowned, then scanned every feed again, just to be sure she hadn’t missed him.
Once she was certain Ryan was nowhere to be seen, she dialed Sarah’s number. “Hello, Ms. Lynch…” Sarah answered.
“Where’s Ryan? I can’t see him on the cameras,” Chiara asked, her voice tight with worry.
“He should be here. Hold on, I’ll go check for you,” Sarah replied, sounding a bit flustered.
“Okay,” Chiara said, trying to stay calm.
Sarah searched entirely, but Ryan was nowhere to be seen. She was starting to freak out a little. “Ms. Lynch, I can’t find Ryan anywhere!” Sarah said, her voice shaky.
“What do you mean you can’t find him?” Chiara demanded.
Sarah was clearly rattled but tried to sound reassuring. “Please don’t worry, Ms. Lynch. All the kids in his class are napping right now. I helped him fall asleep just ten minutes ago. I’ll check again right now…”

Chapter 269
Chiara hung up, grabbed her coat and bag, and was out the door in a flash. Ana saw her hurrying and couldn’t help asking “Where are you going in such a rush?”
“Ryan’s missing! I’m heading to kindergarten!” Chiara blurted out, her voice tight with panic.
“What?” Ana was stunned, but by the time she snapped out of it, Chiara was already gone. She quickly pulled out her phone and made a call.
“Mr. Goodman, Chiara just dashed out of the house in a hurry. I asked her what happened, and she told me Ryan’s gone?” Ana said, her voice shaking with panic.
Titus was in the middle of a meeting when Ana called. He jumped up from his seat and walked out without a word.
Queenie and Paul were left staring at each other, totally baffled. “Mr. Goodman?” Paul called out, still trying to process what was happening.
Paul shot a look at Queenie, then hurried after Titus. Seeing the two of them leave, Queenie stood up and said, “Alright, let’s wrap up the meeting for today. Everyone, back to work.”
“Where did Mr. Goodman run off to?” someone wondered aloud.
“No clue. He looked like he was in a real hurry…” another chimed in.
“He seemed pretty worried. Maybe something’s up with his kid?” someone guessed.
“Could be. Maybe the kid’s sick or something?” another added.
“Probably,” someone else agreed.
Paul caught up to Titus and asked, “What’s going on, Mr. Goodman?”
Titus stared at his phone, his voice low and urgent. “Kindergarten. Now.”
Paul froze for a second. ‘Did something happen to Ryan?’ he wondered. “Okay,” Paul replied.
But Paul noticed Titus was about to call Chiara; he even started dialing, but then hung up before it could connect. “Mr. Goodman, why did you hang up?” Paul asked, a little confused.
Titus clenched his phone, his eyes dark and stormy. “She’s probably on her way. Calling her now would just distract her,” Titus said, his voice low and tense.
Even though Titus hadn’t managed to call Chiara, someone from kindergarten called him instead.
“M-Mr. Goodman, something’s happened! Ryan’s missing! We’ve searched everywhere and can’t find him. We’re about to check the security cameras. Please, you and Ms. Lynch need to come right away!” The teacher on the line sounded panicked.
Titus’s face went cold, his eyes icy and sharp. He hung up, his expression like a winter storm. “Call Jeffrey,” Titus ordered, his voice cold and commanding.
“Huh? Mr. Yates?” Paul blinked, clearly puzzled.
“Tell him my son’s missing,” Titus said, his tone icy.
As Titus opened the car door, he shot Paul a look, his eyes icy and devoid of warmth. “Call him!” Titus snapped.
Paul was stunned. ‘Wait, what does “missing” even mean?’ he wondered, his brain short-circuiting.
‘And what’s Jeffrey got to do with this? Did Mr. Yates secretly buy the kindergarten or something?’ Paul kept guessing, totally
lost.

‘Hold up, is Apex International Kindergarten actually Mr. Yates’s business?’ Paul thought, still trying to wrap his head around
Even though he was still confused, Paul went ahead and called Jeffrey. Paul got straight to the point as soon as the call went through.
“Mr. Yates, it’s Paul. Mr. Goodman asked me to tell you that Ryan’s missing. He went missing at Apex International Kindergarten.” He hung up right after, jumped into the car, and got in.
The car sped off.
