Chapter 270
Chapter 270
Titus was the closest to kindergarten, so he arrived in less than ten minutes. Rence had already gathered all the teachers and staff together.
When Rence and the staff saw Titus’s dark expression, they were even more shocked and terrified.
“M-Mr. Goodman, you’re here…” Renee stammered, not daring to meet his eyes. By now, all the teachers were sweating bullets, their nerves on edge.
A perfectly safe kid suddenly vanishing would send anyone into a panic. But they kept it quiet, afraid it would unsettle the other children.
“Where’s the surveillance footage?” Titus asked coldly.
“W-We’re pulling up the footage, Mr. Goodman, you…” Renee stammered.
Paul shot her a glare. “Cut the crap and show us to the security room, now!”
“Y-Yes, yes, the security room is this way…” Renee stammered, leading them down the hall.
In the security room, Renee had the staff pull up the footage ten minutes ago. “Stop, that’s the moment!” Sarah suddenly called out.
On the screen, the teachers were helping the kids settle down to sleep one by one, and Ryan was one of them.
The teachers usually napped with the kids. But in the footage, after Ryan fell asleep, Sarah left the room.
Renee shot a look at Sarah. “Where did you go?” she demanded.
Sarah looked a little pale. “I-I had a stomachache, so I went to the restroom.” It was her period, and she always had stomach issues whenever that time came around.
The principal shot her a dirty look, and they had no choice but to keep watching the footage. About two minutes later, someone in a cleaner’s uniform suddenly slipped in through the door..
She was wearing a hat and a mask, and after looking around cautiously from the doorway, she crept over to Ryan’s bed. She pulled a handkerchief out of her pocket and clamped it over Ryan’s mouth and nose.
Everyone watching was surprised and scared; this was obviously a planned kidnapping.
“M-Mr. Goodman…” Renee stammered, looking deadly pale. She couldn’t believe something like this was actually happening.
There was a police station right across the street from kindergarten; this place should’ve been the safest spot around. They’d been running kindergarten for years, and not once had there ever been a kidnapping.
Plus, the whole place was covered in security cameras. But this person didn’t care about the cameras at all; she just drugged Ryan and walked out with him like it was nothing.
Titus’s gaze was icy and intense, locked on the screen. Right at that moment, Chiara burst in, pushing the door open.
Titus paused for a split second when he saw her, then yanked her to his side, his tone cold. “Paul, call the police!” Titus ordered.
Paul glanced at them, swallowed hard, and called the cops right away.
Chiara suddenly grabbed Titus’s arm, panicked in her voice. “Where’s our son? Where is he? Tell me!”

Chapter 270
Titus gently cradled her head, pulling her close into his arms. His eyes were cold and unreadable, but his voice was low and soothing as he tried to calm her. “It’s going to be okay. Trust me,” he murmured.
Chiara felt her heart drop at his words. She gripped his collar even tighter, her voice trembling. “I need the truth. Don’t hide anything from me; where did Ryan go?”
Renee and the teachers looked terrified, and Sarah could barely get the words out. “I’m so sorry, Ms. Lynch. I… I lost track of Ryan. Someone knocked him out and took him away!”
“What?” Chiara couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She stared at Sarah, her eyes wide with disbelief.
“Knocked him out? Taken away? What do you mean?” she pressed.
Chiara finally saw the footage of Ryan being knocked out and dragged away. She jabbed a finger at the screen, her voice shaking. “Who the hell is she? Is she even one of your staff?”
“M-Ms. Lynch, please calm down. We’ve already started pulling up employee records. We’ll have the information soon…” Renee stammered.
“Ms. Palmer, we found her file! Here, she just joined last month. Her name is Lena Granger!” one of the staff blurted out, voice trembling.
Chiara stiffened at the name, instinctively glancing over at Titus, shock written all over her face. Titus’s expression grew even darker as he snatched the file. Sure enough, Lena’s photo stared back at him.
He gripped the file tightly and threw it straight at Paul’s face.
Paul’s face turned ashen the moment he heard Lena’s name. He really hadn’t expected Lena to still be in Halinston.
She was supposed to be long gone from here. Paul hung his head, apologizing. “I’m sorry, Mr. Goodman.”
Titus’s voice was cold and commanding. “Get the cops to take her picture and sweep the whole city.”
Paul nodded, gripping Lena’s file. “On it.”
Chiara was still reeling, unable to snap out of her shock. Ryan had been drugged and kidnapped, and the kidnapper was
Lena.
‘Who would’ve thought it’d be her?’ Chiara scoffed inwardly, a cold laugh bubbling up. She clenched her fists and squeezed her eyes shut, trying to hold back the panic rising inside her.
“It’s only been an hour since she took Ryan. There’s no way she could’ve gotten far…” Chiara whispered, her voice trembling.
Chiara slapped Titus. The sound echoed through the room, and everyone instinctively held their breath, staring in shock, exchanging uneasy glances.
But Titus didn’t even flinch. He just looked at her, his eyes dark and steady, taking in her reddened eyes. “I promise I won’t let anything happen to our son,” he said, his voice low and steady.
Chiara jabbed a finger at his face, her voice shaking with rage. “I told you! Your promises are worthless to me! I don’t need any of them!”
With that, Chiara grabbed Titus’s tie, her grip fierce and desperate. “Titus, if Ryan doesn’t make it, I swear I’ll…”
‘What would I do? What could I possibly do?’ she wondered, her mind blank with fear.
Titus swallowed hard and pulled her close, his voice deep and steady as he held her tight. “Then you can kill me,” he said.
Renee and Sarah’s faces turned ghostly pale at his words.

Paul had already reached out to every police station in the city, setting off a massive search. It hadn’t been long, there was no way she could’ve gotten out of the city yet.
As long as she was still in Halinston, they’d find her. Paul stared at Lena’s photo, jaw clenched. “Lena, you’re really asking for it. You must have a death wish!”
Titus had already cut her some slack by letting her leave Halinston. She was a woman and a former colleague; he never wanted to ruin her chances for good.
She could have started over anywhere else, but instead brought trouble to herself. No one even noticed when she came back, and somehow she ended up working as a cleaner at Apex International Kindergarten.
Just as Paul finished his call, his phone rang again; it was Jeffrey. “Hello, Mr. Yates?” Paul answered, his voice a little shaky.
“Spit it out,” Jeffrey said, his tone cold and commanding.
Paul had no choice but to lay everything out for him. “Mr. Yates, do you have some kind of connection with Lena?” Paul couldn’t help but ask, suspicion creeping into his voice.
“No!” Jeffrey snapped, then hung up without another word. After hanging up, Jeffrey left the office and drove to a psychiatric hospital.
A nurse approached him. “Mr. Yates, are you here to see Ms. Jensen?”
“Where is she?” he asked.
“She’s here. I’ll take you to her,” the nurse said, leading the way.
Jeffrey looked through the metal bars of the door at the woman inside. Her head was shaved clean, completely bald. She was sprawled on the bed, sketching away.
Drawings were scattered all over the floor, covering every inch. Jeffrey frowned as he looked at the woman inside. “How has she been lately?”
“Still the same. No improvement,” the nurse replied.
Jeffrey was quiet for a few seconds before he finally said quietly, “Open the door.”
The nurse blinked in surprise. “Mr. Yates…”
“Open it!” Jeffrey ordered.
The nurse looked conflicted. Elaine wasn’t like the other patients here. Her room was set up just for her, all by herself. She was HIV positive, after all.
That was why the staff were super careful, never getting too close to Elaine, just in case. With mental patients, one could never be sure what might happen next.
