When She Ended It With Divorce (Chiara and Titus) novel Chapter 278

Chapter 278

Chapter 278

Lena felt her heart skip a beat, but seeing the creepy look on Elaine’s face made her uneasy. She still had some sanity left. “You’re totally nuts!”

“Yeah, I’m crazy. Crazy people can get away with murder, right?” Elaine shot back.

Titus’s face was grim, his fists clenched tight. He held himself back from acting rashly, his eyes locked on the remote in Elaine’s hand.

He couldn’t bear to think about what might happen to Ryan if she really pressed that button. He’d promised Chiara to bring Ryan back safe and sound.

This time, he swore he wouldn’t let her down again. Wordlessly, Titus stood up and began taking off his clothes right in front

of them.

Lena’s face went pale as she stared at Titus in utter disbelief. “Are you really going to go through this with her?” Lena stammered.

Elaine looked so rough right now, even if one tossed her to a bunch of hobos, they’d just turn away in disgust. She was enough to make anyone lose their appetite.

When Elaine saw Titus actually start undressing, she grinned victoriously. “I won in the end! Serenity never had you, but now I do!”

As Titus unbuttoned his shirt, he fixed her with a cold, accusing stare. “So you rigged the living room, and even strapped a bomb to Ryan?

“You want us dead, and you don’t care about dragging everyone in this building down with us. They’re innocent, just like your parents were.”

“Shut up!” Elaine snapped, her eyes blazing with fury. “I didn’t mean to! I never thought they’d go with Serenity to see you! I never wanted to kill them!” she shouted.

“But the truth is, you killed your own parents with your own hands!” Titus shot back.

“Shut up! Shut up! I told you to shut up!” Elaine snapped, clawing desperately at her own thinning, gray hair, her whole body shaking as she spiraled into a frenzy.

Titus suddenly turned his gaze to Lena. Lena had been with Titus for years, and she could read his look right away. She knew Titus was giving her a chance, but hesitation still held her back.

Meanwhile, Jeffrey was downstairs, unusually anxious. He’d already cleared out all the old folks from the area. He’d just gotten a call from the police, who told him they’d scoped out the area and had snipers in position.

“Mr. Yates, we’ve sewn a tracker and recorder into Mr. Goodman’s body. The situation inside is pretty grim. The kidnapper rigged a bomb on the kid, and there are more bombs scattered around the living room,” the officer reported.

Jeffrey’s forehead broke out in a cold sweat, and he gripped his phone even tighter. “What the hell am I supposed to do now?” Jeffrey asked, anxiety gnawing at him.

“Our snipers are trying to find the best angle, but the curtains are drawn. Mr. Yates, is there any way you can help us get a clear shot from down there?” the officer asked.

Jeffrey looked up at the fifth-floor window with the curtains drawn. “I’ll do my best.”

After hanging up, Jeffrey quickly looked around, grabbed a rock off the ground, and threw it hard at the living room window. Lena was still torn when she heard something hit the window. Instinctively, she went over.

Chapter 278

Elaine barked, “Don’t move!” But Lena had already yanked the curtain open and peeked outside.

Elaine freaked out so much it startled Lena. She turned and said, “What are you so scared of? That was just Jeffrey tossing a rock at the window. There’s nobody out there.”

When Elaine heard there was no one outside, she immediately realized something was off. She snapped her head toward Titus. “Did you bring the cops here?” she demanded.

Lena started to panic, too. As she spun around, her grip loosened, and the curtain ended up with a gap showing outside. “Impossible! He only had his phone with him, not even his car keys. I already searched him,” Lena insisted.

By now, Titus was already standing there with his shirt completely unbuttoned. “Is this really what you want to keep doing?” he asked, his voice icy.

Elaine shot Titus a fierce, défiant glare. ‘Dying like this? No way. I can’t let it end like this, she thought, her whole body bristling with unwillingness.

Titus caught on to what she was thinking and suddenly shouted, “Lena!”

That’s when it hit Lena; Elaine was about to set off the bomb. But Serenity had said she’d wait until Lena was gone before blowing everything up.

Everyone feared death, and Lena was no exception. “No!” Lena screamed. Lena threw herself at Elaine, grabbing her hand in a death grip. No way was she going to get blown up with them.

“Let go, you bitch!” Elaine screamed, her face twisted with rage. Elaine’s expression changed dramatically; shock and fury flashed across her face, but in her current state, she stood no chance against Lena.

As Lena and Elaine wrestled for the remote, Titus strode over to the window and yanked the curtain open.

After being in the dim room for so long, both of them instinctively raised their hands to shield their eyes from the sudden glare. The remote fell right onto Elaine’s lap.

Titus lunged and snatched the remote, but Elaine instantly clamped onto his hand with an iron grip. Elaine glared at him. her eyes wild and burning with hatred, lips twisting into a sinister, crazed smile.

“Titus, let’s die together!” she cackled, her voice dripping with insanity and obsession.

“No!” Lena screamed, her face going ghostly pale as she instinctively bolted for the door.

Just then, there was a sudden, sharp whoosh in the air. Elaine’s eyes flew wide as she locked onto Titus, her head snapping to the side as the bullet struck. Blood trickled from her forehead.

Her eyes stayed wide open, her lips twitching as if she wanted to say something. But in the end, she died right there.

Lena had already opened the door. When she heard the gunshot and turned around, she saw that Elaine had been shot dead. Her face went ghostly pale. She ran even faster, but as soon as she hit the ground floor, Jeffrey cut her off, blocking her

escape.

“Where are you running off to, Lena?” Jeffrey said, sounding way too calm for the situation.

“Move!” Lena yelled.

She was scared out of her mind. She tried to dart in another direction, but cops swarmed in from every side. Her legs turned to jelly, and she just dropped to the floor.

“I’m done for, totally done for…” she muttered, barely able to get the words out.

“Cuff her and take her away! The rest of you, follow me upstairs!” the officer ordered.

Chapter 278

It was obvious the bomb never went off. Titus had to use some force to pry Elaine’s fingers off the remote. The skin on his hand was torn from her grip, but he didn’t care. He pocketed the remote and went straight into the bedroom.

“Ryan, it’s me. Daddy’s here,” Titus called gently. Titus scooped Ryan into his arms, holding him close and murmuring to reassure him.

Right at that moment, the cops stormed upstairs. The whole building had already been cleared out. Ryan was crying uncontrollably in Titus’s arms, and Titus could only hold him close, soothing him as best he could.

Two bomb squad experts arrived. One had to work on defusing the other bombs in the room. These homemade bombs were no challenge for them at all. So the bomb vest strapped to Ryan was quickly and safely removed.

“Daddy, I want to go home… Can we go home now?” Ryan sobbed, his little voice shaking with fear.

“Mommy… I want Mommy… I wanna go home…” he whimpered, tears streaming down his cheeks.

Titus felt his heart shatter listening to his son’s cries. He kept kissing the top of Ryan’s head, desperate to comfort him.

“Okay, buddy, Daddy’s taking you home to see Mommy. Be good, Ryan. You’re my brave little man, so no more tears, alright? We’re strong, you and me.” Titus whispered gently.

When Jeffrey stepped inside, he saw Elaine slumped lifelessly in her wheelchair, eyes wide open even to death, unable to find peace even at the end.

Her gaze was still locked onto Titus and Ryan, filled with bitter obsession, as if her hatred refused to fade even after she was

gone.

Titus took the coat Paul handed him, draped it over Ryan, and was ready to get him out of there. Jeffrey watched silently as Titus and Ryan left, then turned back to stare at Elaine’s lifeless body.

He started to reach out, maybe to close her eyes, but in the end, he just let his hand fall back, leaving her staring blankly into the void.

When Adele finally got the news, she let out a huge sigh of relief, feeling like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. “It’s okay, it’s okay. Ryan’s safe now. He’s fine, not hurt at all.”

Heather finally relaxed when she heard those words, feeling the tension melted away. Chiara, who’d been passed out on the couch, suddenly snapped awake like she had some kind of feeling. She shot upright, a jolt running through her.

“No! Ryan! Give me back my Ryan!” Chiara screamed, her voice raw with fear and desperation,
