When She Ended It With Divorce (Chiara and Titus) novel Chapter 280

Chapter 280

Chapter 280

On the way back, Chiara held Ryan tightly, refusing to let go. She could finally breathe easy. She gently kissed Ryan on the forehead.

After hanging up, Heather glanced at them, then reached out to ruffle Ryan’s hair. “That was the police calling. Elaine strapped a bomb to Ryan, and even the whole place was rigged,” Heather said.

When Chiara heard that, she couldn’t help but squeeze Ryan even tighter in her arms. Ryan let out a soft whimper.

Chiara glanced down at Ryan in her arms, then immediately loosened her grip, giving him a reassuring kiss on the forehead. “Don’t be scared, Ryan. It’s all over now. Mommy’s here,” she whispered.

Fortunately, Ryan didn’t wake up. Chiara looked up at Heather, who lowered her voice and whispered, “Titus got wounded when he was struggling with Elaine over the detonator. That’s when the police sniper took her out.”

“She was killed? Is she really dead?” Chiara asked, her voice shaking.

Heather nodded. “Yes, the police said she was killed on the spot.”

Chiara pressed her lips together, staying silent. Suddenly, memories of the past flooded her mind. She had spent countless sleepless nights just because of Elaine’s name.

Elaine was undeniably proud and beautiful. Chiara suddenly remembered their very first official meeting, which had taken place in the hospital. Elaine had been so arrogant, absolutely convinced she was right.

And now, just a few years later, she was already dead. Chiara couldn’t describe how she felt right now; there was no doubt she hated Elaine.

It was because of Elaine that her grandfather had died so suddenly. Elaine never once showed any regret and even went as far as kidnapping Ryan. Chiara should have hated her to the core.

But when she heard Elaine had been killed, she only felt a bit relieved, but not even a hint of happiness. For Ryan, Elaine’s death finally meant he was safe.

Seeing Chiara stay silent, Heather squeezed her hand. Chiara shook her head. I’m fine. We all walk our own paths and make our own mistakes. No one really deserves our sympathy.”

Chiara didn’t feel sorry for Elaine. Now she just thought Elaine’s whole life was pathetic and laughable. “Guess this is what she had. She didn’t get a happy ending,” Chiara said.

Yeah, she didn’t get a happy ending. Elaine destroyed the people closest to her; she got exactly what she deserved.

“You should always keep kindness in your heart, be wary of others, but never have the intention to hurt anyone.” That was what their parents always taught them.

Even now, they still couldn’t believe their parents would ever go so far as to kill someone just for profit.

“By the way, Heather said, the police told me the tracker on Titus was actually stitched under his skin, so it was really hard to detect. That’s what gave them time to prepare their operation.”

That was especially true for the sniper’s spot.

“The police just sent me an audio recording from the scene. Do you want to hear it?” Heather asked.

Chiara looked down at Ryan’s sleeping face and whispered, “Send it to me.”

“Okay,” Heather replied.

Chapter 280

When they got home, Ana and Lindsay hurried over, eyes still red from crying. But when they saw Ryan sleeping peacefully. they made sure not to disturb him.

“Oh my god, I was so scared! I’m just so relieved you’re all okay,” Ana said, her voice trembling.

“Come on, come on, let’s get inside!” Lindsay urged.

Chiara gently laid Ryan down on the bed, softly stroking his cheek before quietly leaving the room. She gave Ana and Lindsay a quick rundown of what happened, then headed straight back to the bedroom.

She was worried Ryan might get scared if he woke up and didn’t see his parents. “Alright, we understand. Go ahead and stay with Ryan,” Ana said gently.

Chiara nodded, then glanced at Heather. Heather noticed her gaze and said, “Go on, head back to your room. I’ll go back to mine in a bit.”

Watching Chiara’s back as she turned and went upstairs, Heather’s phone started ringing. It was a call from Kason.

She answered, “Hello?” she said.

“Is everyone okay?” Kason asked.

“Yeah, everyone’s fine,” Heather replied.

“When are you coming back?” Kason asked.

Heather held her phone and said casually, “I’m staying here tonight. Don’t wait up for me.”

Kason was quiet on the other end for a long time. “So, you’re really going to make me spend the night by myself again?” he finally said, sounding a little aggrieved.

Heather had been up all night, and her head was pounding. She pinched the bridge of her nose and replied, “Come on, it’s not like you’re home much anyway. What’s one or two more nights?”

“Mrs. Bradford,” Kason suddenly said on the other end.

Heather pressed her lips together. Usually, when he called her that, there was always a hint of sarcasm in his voice. But this time, his tone was different.

“Is something wrong?” she asked.

Kason let out a low chuckle on the other end. “So, Mrs. Bradford, are you complaining that I never come home at night?”

Heather’s first instinct was to snap back, to say he was just imagining things. But then she remembered how she’d had a change of heart before, so she kept her mouth shut.

She didn’t know what to say, so she just stayed quiet for a moment. But her silence pretty much said it all,

Kason only spoke after her long silence, his tone low and resolute. /Wait for me. I’ll come pick you up.”

Heather stared at her phone after the call ended, frowning. She couldn’t shake the feeling he’d gotten the wrong idea. But since Kason said he was coming, she decided she might as well go back with him.

For now, though, she just wanted to close her eyes and rest for a while. So when Kason pulled up to the Lynch residence, Heather had already drifted off to sleep.

Her phone rang, but she didn’t stir at all. Maybe it was just the comfort of being home, even curled up on the couch, she could sleep safely and soundly, totally at ease.

Chapter 280

Ana heard the phone ringing, came out of the kitchen, saw Heather still sleeping soundly, grabbed her phone, and headed back to the kitchen to answer. “Hello? May I ask who’s calling?” Ana said.

“Where’s Heather?” came the deep, familiar voice on the other end.

As soon as Ana heard that unmistakable voice, she knew right away it was Kason. “She’s really worn out, just crashed on the couch,” she replied.

Kason paused for a few seconds before saying, “Alright, I see.”

“Should I wake Ms. Lynch?” Ana asked.

Kason was quiet again for a moment before replying, “No need.”

“Okay,” Ana said. After hanging up, she put the phone back, then found a blanket and gently draped it over Heather.

Outside, Kason parked in front of the Lynch residence, cracked the window, and lit up a cigarette. The smoke swirled around him, his expression dark and impossible to read.

Once he’d smoked the whole thing, he finally stepped out and rang the doorbell. The gate slid open with a click, and Lindsay opened the front door.

“Mr. Bradford,” Lindsay greeted him.

Kason nodded, slipped on a pair of slippers, and stepped inside.

The villa had a vintage style straight out of decades past. But somehow, it still felt warm and inviting.

He gave the place a quick once-over before his gaze settled on Heather, sleeping soundly on the couch. He walked over and stood quietly by her side, looking down at her for what felt like ages.

But Heather had no idea; she was dead to the world, totally lost in her dreams. But Kason wasn’t about to let her keep sleeping here; he’d already decided he was going to wake her up.

He was still a little stunned that he’d actually stepped inside this house. He couldn’t even explain to himself why he’d come in. But here he was, all the same.

At that moment, Kason didn’t understand his own actions, but soon enough, he’d realize exactly why he’d done it. It was all because of longing. It was his yearning for Heather.

When a woman who’d always been distant and cool suddenly changed, when she was no longer cold and unreachable, but warm and gentle, like water rippling in the sunlight, she became impossible to resist. She made him want to get closer, unable to stay away.
