When She Ended It With Divorce (Chiara and Titus) novel Chapter 290

Chapter 290

Chapter 290

The next day, Chiara still went to the hospital. She took over for Charlie and Adele, letting them head home to get some

rest.

After all, they were getting older and couldn’t handle staying up like this anymore.

Yves glanced at them and said, “Uncle Charlie, why don’t you take Aunt Adele home for now? I’ll keep an eye on Titus. If anything happens, I’ll let you know right away.”

Chiara added softly, “I’ll stay here and watch over him.”

Adele looked at Chiara, then at Titus in the hospital room, and finally nodded, agreeing to leave the hospital for now.

Watching the couple support each other as they left, Chiara looked away.

Honestly, she’d always been curious about Charlie and Adele’s past.

Everyone said Charlie doted on Adele, and there were even rumors that he was totally under Adele’s thumb.

But every time Chiara went back to the Goodman manor, she could feel that Adele was always kind of cold toward Charlie.

Yet Charlie would always greet her with a smile, indulging her no matter what.

Chiara thought, ‘How wonderful it must be to be loved like that. That kind of happiness must feel like pure bliss.

But then she saw a reflection of herself in their story.

Chiara wondered, ‘To love and guard someone like this, yet still not get a warm glance from the other party. Am I the same?

‘Sure, life goes on, but can I live like this for the rest of my life?’

It was only later that she heard from Debby about what Charlie and Adele were like when they were young.

Turns out, Adele’s coldness wasn’t something she was born with. She was always a bit reserved, but she used to be much warmer than she was at present.

Debby said Charlie and Adele started dating in college. What really surprised her was that Adele was the one who made the first move and went after Charlie.

Charlie had never been with a woman like Adele before, so he agreed to her confession, and they dated for two years.

But when Adele brought up getting engaged after graduation, Charlie finally told her that his family had picked out a fiancée for him. There was no future for them, and marriage was out of the question.

But if Adele wanted, Charlie said he’d stay with her, no matter what.

Chiara thought, ‘Be together?

‘How could they possibly be together when Charlie’s married?

‘Of course, what Charlie really meant was keeping Adele hidden away as his secret lover, someone he’d only visit in the dark.

‘With Adele’s aloof and dignified nature, it was clear what she’d choose.”

Just as Chiara’d figured, Chiara and Adele broke up.

After they split, Charlie went along with Marcus’s plan and dated a socialite from a family that matched theirs in status for

about six months.

They even held a lavish engagement party.

When Chiara heard all that, she was genuinely surprised. ‘After everything that happened, how did they ever find their way back to each other?’ she wondered.

Later, Debby told her that it was only after Charlie heard from someone else that Adele had started seeing another guy that he realized he couldn’t let her go.

So Charlie wouldn’t leave Adele alone. To finally shake him off, Adele made up her mind to marry her boyfriend for good.

When Charlie found out, he was scared of his wits and freaked out.

That’s when he went public and broke off the engagement, admitting he’d been in love with someone else all along.

But Adele was already set on her decision. She was at the marriage registry with her new boyfriend, waiting in line to get their marriage license.

That was when Charlie suddenly showed up with a whole crew and, right there in broad daylight, snatched Adele away.

Back then, things were way different. If someone tried to snatch someone off the street, it’d be all over the headlines.

Guess one could blame it on how things weren’t as fast-paced back then.

Otherwise, even the Goodman family would’ve had a hard time covering something like that up.

According to Debby, Charlie actually snatched Adele away in broad daylight, kept her under lock and key. He threatened her to break up with her new boyfriend and come back to him. He swore he’d give her an explanation.

But Adele had made up her mind. No matter how much Charlie tried to sweet-talk her, plead with her, or even pressure her, it was all useless.

Charlie was scared out of his mind, terrified she’d move on and fall for another man.

In his desperation, he did things that ended up hurting Adele deeply.

He even crossed the line. He went so far as to get

her

pregnant.

Once Adele got pregnant, marrying her boyfriend was out of the question, so that was the end of their relationship.

Debbie said she didn’t know the details of their conversation, but Debbie did ask Adele one thing back then.

She told Adele, “If you’re willing to marry my son, you’ll be the Goodman family’s daughter-in-law. If not, have the baby. and I’ll help you leave and start over somewhere else.”

But in the end, Adele agreed to marry Charlie. Maybe she couldn’t bring herself to give up the baby.

But Adele never saw it coming. She was so afraid of being separated from her child ended up sinking into postpartum depression after giving birth and started rejecting her own baby.

Charlie was eaten up with guilt, so he spent every moment and ounce of affection he had left on Adele, leaving nothing for anyone else.

That meant Titus was basically forgotten by his parents.

Marcus ended up raising Titus all by himself.

Rumor had it that while Adele was pregnant, Charlie’s former fiancée barged in, claiming she was also expecting and

demanding that Charlie own up to it.

But Charlie was adamant, swearing up and down that the kid wasn’t his.

Adele just looked at him and asked quietly, “Did you ever sleep with her?”

Charlie froze, caught

guard, and didn’t answer right away.

Adele didn’t seem bothered at all. She just glanced at the other woman and said something that left everyone silent.

“If the child really is his, the Goodman family will accept it, and I’ll raise it as my own,” Adele said, her voice calm and resolute.

Luckily, it turned out the kid wasn’t Charlie’s. Everyone figured that would be the end of the drama.

But clearly, it wasn’t. Adele didn’t care at all, and Charlie could see the indifference in her eyes.

Flustered, Charlie tried to explain why he couldn’t give a straight answer. He stammered that they’d both been drunk the night of the engagement. He wasn’t sure, so he didn’t dare say anything definite.

But Adele just replied, “It doesn’t matter. I don’t care.” Her words were like a cold slap, leaving Charlie speechless.

He finally had to accept that Adele, who once loved him, had changed. She’d turned cold toward him.

Charlie knew he was the reason she’d changed, but even so, he couldn’t walk away

That’s how their whole lives played out. Charlie was always chasing after forgiveness and the old days. Adele just cool and unmoved, nothing ever touching her.

And that was how they spent their whole lives together.

But at that moment, as Chiara watched Charlie and Adele walk away hand in hand, her eyes flickered with emotion.

“Chiara, are you going to stay with Titus today?” Yves asked.

Chiara glanced back at him and nodded softly. “Yeah, I am.”

“Alright, I’ll go and get you a protective suit,” Yves said.

Chiara slipped into the room and stayed with Titus for about ten minutes. The doctors wouldn’t allow her to stay any longer

For the next few days, Chiara kept coming to the hospital. On the tenth day, she stood outside the room, watching as Yves and his team went in to change Titus’s bandages.
