Chapter 291
Chapter 291
As time went on, it became impossible to keep Titus’s injury and hospitalization under wraps.
Paul felt a headache coming on as he looked at the board members gathered in the conference room
He glanced at Queenie and said, “Try to calm them down for now. I’ll call Mr. Goodman.”
Queenie nodded. “Got it.”
Whispers buzzed around the conference room. Everyone was guessing what was up with Titus these days.
Injured or sick, whatever the reason, Titus hadn’t been in the office for half a month straight with zero explanation. People were starting to get restless.
“Everyone, please stay calm. Have some water,” Queenie said, trying to keep things under control.
“Queenie, be straight with us. What’s really going on with Mr. Goodman?” someone pressed.
“Yeah. People online are saying he’s injured and in a coma. Is that true or not? We’re all in the dark here. What’s the real story?” another chimed in.
“Exactly. Where’s Mr. Lambert? Why isn’t he here at a time like this?” someone else asked.
Queenie felt the pressure mounting from all the questions, but she forced a smile and replied, “It’s not that I’m keeping anything from you. I don’t know either.”
“Seriously? If you don’t know, who does? Where’s Paul? Get him on the phone. He’s Mr. Goodman’s right-hand man. He must know what’s up,” someone demanded.
“Yeah. I’ll call Paul right now,” another chimed in.
Just then, Paul burst into the conference room, swinging the door open.
Everyone looked up.
“Come on, Paul, level with us. What’s going on with Mr. Goodman?” someone demanded.
Paul glanced at the board members, then stepped aside.
Charlie walked in.
The board members were stunned for a moment when they saw Charlie, then quickly stood up.
“Mr. Goodman, what brings you here?” someone asked.
“Mr. Goodman…” another chimed in.
Charlie nodded and gestured for everyone to sit. “Alright, everyone, take a seat. I’m here to clear things up for you all.”
People shot each other looks, but they all sat down, and the place went dead silent. Everyone zipped it, no more side chatter or wild speculation.
Charlie took his seat and looked around at everyone. “Titus is in the hospital, and yeah, he’s in a coma.”
His words hit like a bombshell, and the room exploded into hushed whispers.
“What the hell is going on…” someone muttered.

‘Wait, it is true. He’s really out cold?’ another whispered.
“Then what’s gonna happen to Goodman Group?’ someone else blurted out.
Yeah, for real. What’s the deal?’ another chimed in.
Charlie tapped the table, his voice steady. “I know you’re all concerned. While Titus is out of commission, I’ll be running things here at Goodman Group.”
After Charlie said that, the murmurs in the room faded almost immediately.
“Mr. Goodman, it’s good to have you back, but can you tell us what’s going on with Mr. Titus? Will he be able to return and continue leading the company?” someone asked.
Titus’s achievements were clear to everyone. His methods and business acumen had truly earned everyone’s respect.
Charlie pressed his lips together and shook his head. “At this point, we can’t say when he’ll be able to return.”
“But Mr. Goodman, what exactly happened to Mr. Titus?” someone asked, concerned.
Charlie just shook his head, not wanting to say more. He brushed them off with a single sentence. “There was an accident.”
Everyone was dying to know what kind of accident it was, but nobody dared to press him further.
Anyway, with Titus out of the picture, Goodman Group was way too big to be left leaderless.
Charlie stepping up to take charge was what everyone needed. It really put their minds at ease.
That afternoon, Goodman Group’s PR department put out an official statement:
“Due to health reasons, the CEO, Mr. Titus Goodman, will be stepping away from the company for a period of rest and recovery. In the meantime, Mr. Charlie Goodman, former CEO and current Chairman, will be taking over as acting CEO.”
As soon as the news broke, it set off a storm of gossip and speculation.
Everyone was trying to figure out why Titus was suddenly taking time off. Most folks figured he must be sick and needed some time to bounce back.
The fact that he’d been shot was totally hushed up.
The court was fully cooperative. After all, the incident went down right on their turf.
All the prison guards who failed in their duties that day were suspended.
Now, as for Lena…
“The court just sent word. Lena’s execution date is set for next month. But she won’t stop asking to see you. Do you want to go and see her?” Charlie asked.
Chiara shook her head at Charlie, her voice flat, saying, “I have nothing to say to her.”
Those two never had anything to say to each other from the start. Chiara wasn’t about to go and see her now.
“Charlie, there’s something I want to run by you,” Chiara said, hesitating for a moment before speaking.
Charlie had been burning midnight oil at the office lately. He looked absolutely exhausted.
“What is it? Just tell me,” he replied, his voice weary.

“Has Lena’s sentence been handed down?” Chiara asked.
“Not yet. That’s set for next week. Why do you ask?” Charlie replied.
“Can we keep her sentence the way it is? I don’t want it changed,” Chiara said, her tone firm.
Charlie paused for a moment, then asked, “You mean life in prison?”
Chiara nodded. “Yeah, life in prison.”
Charlie looked at her for a moment, not saying a word.
For Lena, the death penalty probably wasn’t the scariest thing. In fact, it would be a relief for her.
Life in prison was a real nightmare for her.
Every morning, she’d wake up to another day with no hope in sight.
Charlie nodded. “Alright, I’ll make the arrangements.”
Charlie dozed off on the couch. Chiara brought Ryan with her as she moved back into Goodman Manor.
Part of it was to make it easier to take care of Ryan, but mostly, she hoped that having Ryan around would help mend the heartache between Charlie and Adele, and also bring some comfort to Debby.
She wanted them to see Ryan’s smiling face every day, hoping it would soften the blow of Titus being stuck in a coma.
Still, Titus had been out cold for almost a month.
Every test they ran came back clean, and even the gunshot wound had pretty much healed up.
Yet he just couldn’t wake up, and he’d long been moved to the VIP ward a long time ago.
Chiara went to the hospital every day, watching as the Traditional Medicine doctor came in to treat Titus with acupuncture and massage.
If he stayed in bed too long, his muscles would start to waste away, so he needed regular massages to keep them from getting weak.
Acupuncture worked similarly. Stimulating his blood flow might help him awaken.
Over time, Chiara learned massage techniques herself. The Traditional Medicine doctor would come by twice a day, once in the morning and once at night.
And Chiara would always give Titus an extra massage by herself, to make sure he was getting all the care he needed
Under his loose hospital gown, Titus was down to skin and bones.
Whenever Chiara touched him, it was bone under her fingers. His muscles had pretty much disappeared.
Every day, Chiara would help him with leg lifts and stretches to keep him from getting too stiff.
She’d always end up drenched in sweat from the effort.
Titus had dropped a ton of weight, but honestly, he still looked handsome.
Adele stood outside the ward, quietly watching as Chiara did her best to help Titus with his rehab, lifting his legs and guiding him through recovery exercises.

Chapter 291
The doctor said Titus’s wound was healed enough that they could get him outside for some sun and fresh air. It’d really help his recovery.
After discussing it with the family, Chiara decided to bring Titus back to Goodman Manor.
They moved all his medical gear over and even brought in the professional live-in nurses and the private doctors to take care of him around the clock.
After two weeks at the helm of Goodman Group, Charlie had dropped a ton of weight. He finally got why Goodman Group kept getting bigger and brighter under Titus’s lead.
He also finally got a real taste of what kind of man his son truly was.
When Chiara came out of the room and saw Charlie fast asleep on the couch, she was thinking about getting a blanket to cover him up. She only saw Adele coming over with a blanket in her hands.
