Jeffrey looked at her for a moment before saying, “Chiara, I’m serious. Just take your time to think it over. I know you need space, and I’ll wait. Ryan will be like my own son to me.”

Chiara looked at Jeffrey like he’d lost his mind.

‘Seriously, what is he even thinking? Has he gone crazy?’ she thought.

After Jeffrey finished, he shot a glance at Titus, who was completely oblivious on the bed, then turned and walked out of the

room.

But as soon as he opened the door, he found Adele waiting outside.

Jeffrey gave her a slight nod, murmured a greeting, and then walked away.

Adele stepped into the room, glanced at her unconscious son on the bed, and then looked at Chiara.

“Chiara, is Jeffrey into you?” Adele asked.

Chiara was taken aback. “You heard all that?”

Adele walked over to the bed, gazing at Titus with a heavy heart.

She gently squeezed his hand, her voice soft and full of concern, saying, “You’re still young, Chiara. You can’t spend your whole life alone.

“If someone good comes along, don’t be afraid to start over. No matter what, we’ll always be family. You’ll always be Ryan’s

mom.”

“Adele…” Chiara frowned, her eyes drifting to Titus lying unconscious on the bed, a storm of emotions swirling inside her. “Please, let’s not talk about this. I’m not even considering it,” Chiara replied.

From the day she chose to walk away from Titus, she’d made up her mind never to look for anyone man.

Adele shook her head. “I don’t think Titus is ever going to wake up. Charlie, Debby, and I are slowly coming to terms with it.

“Even if you don’t end up as my daughter-in-law, you’ll always be like a daughter to me. We’re family, and if you ever remarry, the Goodman family will always be your home.”

Chiara fell silent. She didn’t want to say anything else, because deep down, she knew in her heart that this wasn’t in the cards for her

anymore.

She was never going to remarry or let another man get close to her.

Chiara said quietly, “I’ll go and see if Ryan’s home yet.”

Ryan had already gone back to kindergarten. The kids were resilient. They bounced back so fast.

Adele watched Chiara leave the room, then tightened her grip on Titus’s hand.

Ever since Jeffrey confessed to Chiara, he’d been dropping by the Goodman manor every single day.

Seeing him act eagerly every day was getting on Wilbert’s nerves. He finally cornered Jeffrey at the door, grabbed him by the collar, and snapped, “What the hell’s gotten into you lately?”

Vera glanced at Jeffrey and Wilbert. “Come on, what’s with you two? Can’t you talk like normal people?”

Wilbert shot Jeffrey a glare and let go of his collar. “Spill it. What’s your deal?”

Jeffrey adjusted his collar and said coolly, “Isn’t it obvious?”

“Damn you!” Wilbert yanked at his hair, his face dark with anger as he glared at Jeffrey.

Wilbert snapped, “Seriously, you couldn’t be more obvious. How do you even have the guts to do this? Titus is our close friend.

“How can you try to make a move on Chiara right now? Are you out of your mind?”

“Why can’t I? They’re already divorced,” Jeffrey shot back.

“You…” Wilbert was so furious that he jabbed a finger at Jeffrey’s face.

“I’m telling you, don’t mess around. Keep this up, and you’ll lose a friend,” Wilbert snapped.

Jeffrey smirked. “Seriously, you haven’t noticed?”

“Noticed that you’re making a move on Chiara while Titus is still in a coma?” Wilbert shot back.

Vera looked Jeffrey up and down, then tugged Wilbert aside.

“Do Charlie and Adele already know what you’re planning?” she asked.

“What do you think?” Jeffrey shot back.

Wilbert looked even more shocked. He turned to Vera, his fiancée, blurting out, “Wait, what are you saying?”

“I mean, it seems like Charlie and Adele already know what he’s up to, but they haven’t tried to stop him. Doesn’t that say something?” Vera said.

‘What’s that supposed to mean? What else could it be?’ Wilbert thought, his mind spinning.

Wilbert’s face turned stormy as he glared at Jeffrey, jaw clenched tight.

“You really take the cake, Jeffrey. Even animals know better than to mess with their own family, but you… you…” Wilbert sputtered, too pissed to finish.

Vera, seeing how riled up he was, patted his shoulder. “Seriously if Adele and Jeffrey don’t care, why are you losing your mind? What, you got a crush on Chiara, too?”

Wilbert’s scowl deepened as he shot her a deadly glare.

“Cut it out, will you?” he snapped.

“Jeffrey’s dated so many girls. They could form a parade around the city,” Wilbert snapped.

Vera raised an eyebrow, shot Jeffrey a teasing look, and laughed. “You haven’t picked up a new girlfriend lately, have you?”

Jeffrey answered deadpan, “No.”

Wilbert glared at him. “Even if Chiara ever moves on, it’ll never be you, not in a million years. You think Adele and Jeffrey don’t know all about your so-called ‘glorious history’?

“Dream on. There’s no way it’ll ever be you.”

Jeffrey just gave him a look, said nothing, and got into his car.

Wilbert watched the car pull away, still pissed off. He turned and stomped back toward the manor.

“Hey, where are you going?” Vera called after him..

“I need to talk to Adele and Jeffrey. Even if they want Chiara to find someone new, it can’t be one of us,” Wilbert said.

“Why do you care so much? Who put you in charge anyway?” Vera shot back.

“But…” Wilbert started.

“No buts. Let’s stay out of their family drama. Come on, let’s go home. I want grilled ribs for dinner tonight,” Vera said, dragging him away.

That day, Heather and Eunice dropped by the Goodman manor. When they heard that Jeffrey had confessed to Chiara, both of them froze, shooting each other a look.

Eunice blinked, thinking she must’ve misheard. “Wait, who just confessed to you? Say that again. I didn’t catch it.”

“Jeffrey,” Chiara said.

Eunice gasped. “Him? For real? What’s up with you two? Did you guys hook up or something?”

Chiara frowned. “Hook up? Please. We’ve barely even talked, let alone anything else. Beats me why he’s acting so weird.”

“Wait, don’t tell me he fell for you at first sight?” Eunice blurted out.

Chiara shook her head. “That’s not realistic.”

“Do Mr. and Mrs. Goodman know about this?” Eunice asked.

Chiara paused for a moment. “They probably do.”

Eunice said, “They know? Wow, that’s unexpected. Jeffrey and you? Seriously, what’s going on here… Did they say anything?”

“Not really. They don’t seem to want to interfere, and they even encouraged me to think about getting remarried someday,”

Eunice and Heather exchanged glances. “Chiara, if Titus never wakes up, are you really planning to spend your whole life waiting for him?”

Chiara hesitated, her voice barely above a whisper. “He’s Ryan’s dad, and he literally took a bullet for me. Even if it’s just for Ryan and Debby, isn’t this the right thing to do?”

Who could argue with that?
