When She Ended It With Divorce (Chiara and Titus) novel Chapter 294

Chapter 294

Chapter 294

The New Year was just around the corner before anyone realized it.

Titus still showed no signs of regaining consciousness.

To make up for what they’d missed, everyone gathered at the Goodman manor on New Year’s Eve to celebrate the New Year together.

Ever since Jeffrey confessed to her, Chiara had been keeping her distance.

Jeffrey didn’t force anything, but he kept coming by every day.

Wilbert saw how persistent Jeffrey was and didn’t know what to say anymore.

Wilbert thought, ‘Is there really such a thing as a Playboy turning over a new leaf? I can’t bring myself to believe it.

But after watching Jeffrey all night, Wilbert had to admit that Jeffrey’s eyes did follow Chiara everywhere. It got under Wilbert’s skin.

“Want to step outside for a smoke?” Wilbert asked.

Jeffrey glanced at him, nodded, and got up to follow him out to the yard.

“Are you serious about this?” Wilbert asked.

“How am I not serious?” Jeffrey shot back.

“You know Chiara’s not like those women you used to date. She’s…” Wilbert started.

But Jeffrey cut him off, sounding calm. “I know. Would you believe I actually want to marry her?”

“Whoa, cough, cough…” Wilbert nearly choked on his smoke, totally blindsided by Jeffrey’s words.

He coughed so hard his eyes went red, staring at Jeffrey in shock.

“Man, you… you…” Wilbert stammered, at a loss for words.

Wilbert was left speechless. This was way too wild.

Wilbert had always noticed Jeffrey acted differently around Chiara, but he never thought Jeffrey’s feelings would go this far.

“So, when did this all start?” Wilbert asked.

“I don’t know,” Jeffrey replied.

Wilbert was quiet for a few seconds, then took another drag. “She’s never going to go for it.”

“I’m not in a rush. I’ve played around for so many years, and I’m fotally over it now. I’ve got all the time in the world,” Jeffrey replied.

Wilbert was truly speechless this time. He finished his cigarette, shot Jeffrey a look, and headed back inside.

Jeffrey looked up at the sky, took one last drag, then headed back inside, too.

After the New Year, Jeffrey still dropped by every day to help Chiara give Titus his massage.

At first, they hardly exchanged a word.

Chapter 294

“I’ve formally spoken to Mr. Goodman and Mrs. Goodman about how I feel about you. They don’t seem to care, and they’re not against me wanting to pursue you,” Jeffrey said.

Chiara paused, looking up at him, a mix of surprise and helplessness in her eyes. “Jeffrey…”

“Don’t worry about it. I’ve got plenty of time, and I’m willing to wait for you,” Jeffrey replied.

Chiara stared at him, lips parted, but for once, she was at a loss for words.

‘If just a few words could make him give up, I’d gladly repeat them every day, Chiara thought, feeling a bit exasperated.

She put Titus’s hand back under the blanket, pulled it up to cover him, and left the room carrying the basin.

Jeffrey sat in the chair by the bed, watching Titus, who was completely oblivious to everything.

Jeffrey said, “Titus, maybe we were brothers in a past life, always getting tangled up with the same woman. I’d like to give you a heads-up. I’m going after your ex-wife now, and your parents are on board.

“She’s not into me yet, but I believe if I keep showing her I’m serious and give it time, she’ll come around.

“You know what they say. Good girls can’t resist a shameless guy, and strong-willed ones can’t shake off a clingy man.

“Lucky for me, I’m both persistent and shameless, so my odds are looking pretty good, right?

“But don’t worry, I’ll treat Ryan like my own son. I’ll even try to give him a little brother or sister to keep him company.

“I swear, I’ll treat him like my own flesh and blood. And if I only end up with daughters, I’ll hand the whole Yates family over to Ryan. How’s that for a deal?

“Alright, I’m heading out. I’ll be back tomorrow. Gotta go brainstorm how to crack the code and get Chiara to say yes to being with me.”

Jeffrey looked at Titus for a few seconds, then turned and walked out.

But Jeffrey was so obvious about it that everyone in the family could see it a mile away. Nobody was oblivious.

That day, during Titus’s routine check-up, the family doctor and nurses couldn’t help bringing it up.

A nurse gossiped, “Hey, I gotta say, Mr. Yates seems pretty awesome. He shows up rain or shine, every single day.

“And Mr. Goodman and Mrs. Goodman don’t seem to care at all. Are they actually giving their blessing to those two?”

“Oh, I heard from one of the staff that they saw the two of them hugging at the door the night before last,” another nurse jumped in.

“Seriously? Is that for real?” the first nurse gasped.

“If they saw it with their eyes, how could it be fake?” the second nurse replied.

“Are they already an item on the down-low?” the first nurse whispered.

“I bet they are. Who knows if he’ll ever wake up…” the second nurse said, her voice dropping to a whisper.

“From a doctor’s perspective, it’s pretty unlikely. But with all that money, even if he stays in a vegetative state, he could live another twenty or thirty years, no problem at all,” the doctor chimed in.

“Imagine if he ever found out his best friend and his ex-wife were together. How would he even feel about that?” the first

nurse said.

Chapter 294

The family doctor gently lifted Titus’s eyelid and checked his pupils with a flashlight.

“He can’t hear a word we’re saying,” the doctor remarked.

“So he’s totally out of it, huh?” the nurse asked.

“If he were aware, he’d have woken up ages ago,” the doctor replied.

“Yeah, true enough…” the nurse agreed.

Just then, Chiara pushed open the door and walked in, giving them a quick look.

“How is he?” she asked.

“Ms. Lynch, Mr. Goodman’s vitals are all normal,” the doctor replied.

With the kind of care only money could buy, it was no wonder. Titus had been in a coma for ages, but he didn’t have a single bedsore.

They must’ve been turning him all the time. Sure, his muscles were gone, but there wasn’t any serious atrophy. It showed how well he was being looked after.

“I have to head out for something today, so please keep an extra eye on him. I’ll be back this evening,” Chiara said.

“Got it, Ms. Lynch,” the doctor replied.

Chiara glanced at Titus lying on the bed, then turned and walked out.

Once Chiara left, the nurse leaned over and whispered, “Did you see how amazing she looked today? She really dolled herself up. Think she’s meeting up with Mr. Yates for a date?”

“Honestly, you might be onto something. Mr. Yates’s not bad himself. They’d actually look good together,” the other nurse replied.

“Isn’t this kind of exciting?” the first nurse giggled.

“Right? Totally…” the second nurse agreed.

Chiara put in extra effort today. She was all dressed up because it was the one-month celebration for Nancy and Eric’s baby.

Nancy had given birth to a baby boy last month.

When Chiara got the invitation, there was no way she was going to miss it. She had to show up in person.

“Chiara, you made it,” Eunice called out, her face lighting up.

Chiara smiled and handed over the gift. “Congrats!”

Eunice let out a couple of giggles and grabbed Chiara by the hand pulling her along.

“Come on, let me show you my little nephew,” Eunice said excitedly.

When Chiara saw the baby, she thought he was absolutely adorable. It was clear at a glance that he was the spitting image of Nancy. One could tell right away he was her kid.

“My nephew looks just like his mom, huh? Not a trace of me in there, right?” Eunice laughed.

Chiara studied the baby for a while before saying, “Yeah, he doesn’t take after Eric at all.”

“Chiara, you made it.” Eric called out.

Chiara turned and saw Eric coming in, hand in hand with Nancy. She flashed them a warm smile.

“Eric, Nancy,” Chiara greeted, her tone full of affection.

Nancy was still a bit soft and round from having the baby, but it made her even more adorable. One’d never guessed she was a new mom. She still looked like a kid herself.

Chiara couldn’t help but shoot Eric a glance.

Eric caught her meaningful look and arched an eyebrow.

“What’s up?” he asked.

Chiara just shook her head with a smile. “Nothing.”

‘Seriously, how does he even go through with marrying such a young girl?’ Chiara couldn’t help but think.

But clearly, Chiara was overthinking it. When Nancy bent down to check on her baby in the crib, Chiara spotted a dark purple hickey on the back of her neck.
