When She Ended It With Divorce (Chiara and Titus) novel Chapter 297

Chapter 297

Chapter 297

“I just woke up,” Titus replied.

“How come you’re awake?” Chiara asked, puzzled.

“Probably because you annoyed me so much, I couldn’t stay asleep,” Titus teased.

Chiara was lost at words.

“What do you mean?” Chiara asked, still not getting it. ‘Did I annoy him into waking up? When did I even do that?’ she thought to herself.

Before she could react, Titus rolled her over. Her eyes had adjusted to the dim light, and she could finally make out the outline of his face.

“I could hear you talking,” Titus said.

Chiara was genuinely startled. She stared at him in disbelief. “You… You could hear us?”

“Yeah,” Titus replied, his voice rough. Then his kiss fell softly again.

Chiara instinctively lifted her neck, unwittingly making things easier for him. But when she realized he wanted to take things further, she quickly put her hand on his shoulder to stop him.

“No. You just woke up. You shouldn’t…” she protested.

Titus frowned. “You stopped me just now…”

Chiara caught on to what he was about to say, quickly covered his mouth, and shot him a warning look.

“No, that’s not it. I’m worried about you, so we really shouldn’t,” she said.

Titus’s eyes darkened with emotion as he stared at her for a long moment. Instead of taking things further, he simply lay down on top of her, resting his head against her.

Chiara frowned. He was so thin now. All she could feel were his bones beneath his skin. But even like that, he still wasn’t exactly light.

“Who did you go with today?” Titus asked.

Chiara didn’t really think about it and told him the truth.

“I drove myself,” she said.

“By yourself?” Titus echoed, a hint of surprise in his voice,

“Mm,” she murmured.

“You didn’t ask anyone to go with you?” Titus wondered aloud.

“No. Why?” Chiara replied.

Titus was quiet for a few seconds, then asked in a low voice, “Did Jeffrey tell you he likes you?”

Chiara’s heart skipped a beat. She tried to shove him off, but he didn’t move an inch.

“You heard that?” she blurted out, sounding a bit panicked.

Chapter 297

“Are you planning to be with him?” Titus asked, his voice low and a little tense.

“Are you kidding me? No way!” Chiara shot back, genuinely stunned he’d even ask.

“You’re not lying to me, are you?” Titus pressed.

Chiara was speechless.

She was honestly at a loss. Why would he even think she’d lie to him?

“Seriously, why would I even lie to you?” Chiara retorted.

Titus pushed himself up and looked down at her.

“What if I never woke up? Would you move on, maybe end up with him?” he asked, his voice low and tense.

Chiara frowned. “That never even crossed my mind.”

Titus stared at her for a long moment, finally seeming to believe her. But then he asked the one thing that was eating at him.

“But you guys hugged,” he said, his voice low and tense.

“What…?” Chiara said.

She was just about to ask when that happened, but then it clicked. Jeffrey hugged her at the front door a few nights back.

Wait, how did he know about that?’ Chiara thought.

She blurted it out without thinking, “How did you know about that?”

Titus gripped her waist, his hold suddenly tightening.

“Ouch!” Chiara gasped, wincing a little from the pain.

But seeing Titus’s dark and stormy expression, she paused for a moment before/finally trying to explain herself.

“It was just a hug, nothing romantic. It was a friendly thing between friends,” Chiara said quickly.

Titus scoffed, clearly not convinced.

Chiara’s brow furrowed, her face growing tense and serious.

“So

you

don’t believe me?” she asked, her voice steady but tinged with hurt.

Titus’s lips pressed into a thin line. His jaw clenched, and he looked even more chiseled in the dim light.

Chiara waited for him to say something, but when he stayed silent, she started to get annoyed. She looked away and tried to push him off.

But Titus just held her tight, his voice rough and low as he said, “believe you. Whatever you say, I believe it.”

Back then, it didn’t matter. Even if she’d made up her mind to be with another guy, he wouldn’t have cared.

But now that he was awake, there Was

she could be with anyone else.

Chiara didn’t move, just let him hold her close.

The tighter they hugged, the more Chiara could feel how thin he was.

Chapter 297

It was like hugging a skeleton wrapped in skin.

After a long moment, Chiara finally hugged him back, her voice soft as she asked, “Are you hungry? Is there anything you

want to eat?”

“You…” Titus stammered, his voice trembling.

“Did you say something?” Chiara asked, not quite catching his words.

But Titus didn’t go on. He’d eaten earlier, so he stayed quiet.

“I want to have some chowder you made,” he finally said gently.

Chiara’s gaze softened. “Okay, but you have to let go of me first. I’ll go and make you some chowder.”

Since he’d just woken up, something too rich or spicy would be bad for him right now. Chowder was definitely the safest bet.

But right at that moment, the door burst open.

Both of them froze.

Chiara was totally paralyzed.

After a brief moment of shock, Titus snatched up the blanket and threw it over them.

The next second, the lights snapped on.

“Why’s it so dark here? Chiara must be back. I saw her car outside…” Adele started.

But when Adele saw what was happening on the bed, she instantly clammed up, like someone had grabbed her by the throat.

Charlie poked his head in, too. “Uh, what’s…”

The couple just froze, stunned by the scene in front of them.

It was just way too sudden and shocking. Nobody could even react for a second.

Chiara, still hiding under the blanket, wished the ground would swallow her up.

Chiara thought, ‘What the hell is this mess?

‘Getting caught in bed like this… I seriously want to disappear!

Titus had no choice but to roll off her, but he made sure not to let even a single strand of Chiara’s hair peek out from under the blanket.

“If you’re done gawking, could you please close the door?” Titus said, sounding both annoyed and helpless.

The Goodmans just stood there, totally stunned, eyes wide.

Adele was the first to snap out of it, nodding frantically.

“Oh! Sorry. Sorry! You two… Uh, carry on. Don’t mind us…” she stammered, practically tripping over herself as she backed

out of the room.

Chiara, buried under the covers, just wanted to disappear.

Charlie was still standing there, totally confused, while his wife had closed the door before he could even react.

Chapter 297

“Did… Did I really just see that?” Charlie stammered, still in shock.

Adele looked up at him, her eyes sparkling as she gripped his arm tight.

“Titus… He’s awake!” she burst out, her voice shaking with excitement.

Charlie’s face twisted through a dozen emotions in a split second. “Can you open the door again? I need to double-check. I must be seeing things.”

Adele gave his arm a sharp smack, hissing under her breath, “What are you gawking at? Can’t you see Chiara’s in there, too?”

Charlie’s eyes were a little red with excitement. “Finally, that brat woke up! I can finally ditch the office for good.”

Adele just rolled her eyes, at a loss for words.

She shot him a glare. “Go and let Debby know.”

“Yeah. Yeah. I’m on it,” Charlie said, his eyes still glued to the door, full of excitement, before he dashed upstairs.

Adele smiled at the door, her eyes full of relief and happiness.

Chiara stayed buried under the blanket, completely silent. She was so embarrassed that she wished she could disappear and never show her face again.

Titus lifted the blanket, saw her looking absolutely done with life, and couldn’t help but chuckle quietly.

“Trust me, my folks don’t care,” he said, trying to reassure her.

Chiara finally opened her eyes and gave him a deadpan stare. She was about to say, “I care,” but then she froze.

With the lights on, Chiara stared at his chiseled face and went quiet.

Titus wasn’t sure how he looked right now, but he could imagine.

The next second, he covered Chiara’s eyes with his hand.

“Do I look ugly right now?” he joked, half-serious.
