Chapter 299

Chapter 299

Heather’s words left Chiara deep in thought until someone called out to her.

“Chiara, come and have some fruit,” Titus called out.

Chiara turned around and caught Titus looking at her.

Their eyes met, and Chiara blinked, slipped her phone into her pocket, smiled, and walked over.

Ryan was especially happy tonight, pestering them nonstop to let him sleep with his Mom and Dad.

So, for the first time as a family, all three of them lay down together on the same bed.

Ryan snuggled right between them, holding both their hands and looking up at the ceiling decorated with stars, his face lit up with joy.

“Does this mean I get to sleep with Mom and Dad every night now?” Ryan asked.

Titus shook his head. “Nope, just tonight.”

Ryan’s face fell, and he pouted in protest.

After a few months apart, Ryan was much more fluent than he’d been half a year ago. He barely stuttered

Half a year really made a big difference.

“Why?” Ryan asked.

“Because you’re a boy, and boys have to be brave and strong,” Titus replied.

“But I want to sleep with Mom and Dad…” Ryan said softly.

“How about one night a week?” Titus offered.

“Aww…” Ryan still looked pretty disappointed.

anymore.

“Ryan, you’re going to be a big guy someday. When you grow up, you can’t sleep with Mom and Dad anymore. Sleeping on your own is how you become strong,” Titus explained.

Ryan blinked, cocked his head, and asked, all wide-eyed, “Did you sleep by yourself when you were little, Dad?”

“Yes, I did. I slept alone when I was a kid,” Titus answered.

“Will I be as strong as you when I grow up?” Ryan asked, eyes full of hope.

Ryan never forgot being kidnapped, and he knew it was Titus who had rescued him.

In Ryan’s heart, Titus was like a mountain, unshakable and towering. The one he admired more than anyone.

“Of course, as long as you’re brave and independent,” Titus assured him.

Ryan blinked, then nodded with determination. “I want to be as strong as you, Dad.”

“That’s my boy,” Titus said with a gentle smile.

Before long, Ryan’s breathing evened out, and he drifted off to sleep.

Chapter 299

Chiara sat up, glanced at her son, and gently pulled the blanket up over him.

Titus took her hand, his voice dropping to a whisper. “Chiara…”

Chiara looked up at him. “Yeah?”

“Are you…” Titus began, his words trailing off.

Chiara’s eyes flickered. Even though he didn’t finish his words, she knew exactly what he was about to ask.

“I’m not ready to think about that yet, so I can’t give you an answer,” Chiara said softly.

Titus pursed his lips, silent for a moment before he finally asked, “When will you

“I don’t know,” Chiara replied.

She truly had no answer at that moment.

Upon hearing Chiara, Titus nodded, dropping the subject.

“Thank you,” Titus said softly.

know?”

Chiara’s eyes flickered at his words, but she kept her voice gentle. “What are you thanking me for? For looking after you?”

“Mm,” Titus murmured.

“It wasn’t just me. My parents and the family doctor were all taking care of you, too,” Chiara said.

“Mm,” Titus murmured.

Chiara remembered that moment when Titus had shielded her from the gunfire without a second’s hesitation. Words rose to her lips, but she swallowed them back.

The room was quiet, occasionally broken by Ryan’s sleepy whispers.

“Dad…” Ryan whimpered, his voice trembling with emotion.

“Mom…”

“Always together…”

Chiara turned her head to look at her son’s peaceful face and squeezed his hand a little tighter.

As Chiara slowly closed her eyes, trying to let sleep take over, Titus’s deep voice broke quiet again.

“I still hope you’ll think about it. I swear I’ll never break my promise to you again. Even if you’re only considering it for Ryan, I’m okay with that,” Titus said softly,

Chiara didn’t respond. She kept her eyes shut, as if she’d already drifted off.

Slowly, after what felt like forever, sleep finally claimed her.

Titus brushed her hair softly, then gently touched Ryan’s hand. A faint smile tugged at his lips.

‘Man, this feels nice, Titus thought to himself.

The next morning, Ryan was the first to wake up.

“Gotta pee. I gotta pee…” Ryan called out, squirming.

Titus shot them both a look, his gaze cool and unreadable.

Vera quickly jumped in. “Honey, I’m starving. Let’s eat first, okay?”

Wilbert cleared his throat, realizing he’d almost let something slip. ‘Better keep my mouth shut. If we don’t call each other out, we can still be friends, he thought.

“Yeah. Let’s go, Titus. Let’s eat first,” Wilbert said, trying to change the subject.

At the table, Wilbert kept firing off questions. When did he wake up? How did he suddenly come to? Did he have any awareness during that month he was out? and so on.

Titus answered them all. He really had no awareness at all during the first part of his coma, and it was only later that he started to come to.

He woke up all of a sudden, and it was actually the family doctor’s gossip that pissed him off enough to snap him out of it.

“Come on, let’s drink to Titus. Man, you really dodged a bullet. Waking up like this is a huge deal. Bottoms up!” Wilbert cheered, raising his cup.

Titus had a glass of milk before him. He gave Wilbert’s hand-brewed coffee a longing look, wrinkled his nose at his milk, and blurted out, “Let’s switch.”
