CHAPTER 18
Amelia
Reluctantly, I place my hand in Ethan’s and set my coffee cup on the table before I stand up. His grin widens as he squeezes my hand a little and leads me out of the office.
While I’m insanely curious about where he’s leading me, I don’t question him.
I trust Ethan. And I don’t mean just the level of trust one has in Alpha, it’s deeper than that. Ethan has shown me acceptance and kindness that even my family never bothered to give me, so yes, I believe he has earned my trust fully.
He doesn’t lead me far, but I’d be lying if I said I’m not surprised when we end up at his bedroom door and he opens it for me. For a brief moment, I get worried, but quickly push the thought aside – Ethan isn’t like that.
I take a breath and enter his bedroom. It smells of him, of course, but the scent associates with calmness and comfort rather than worry. His bedroom is simple – dark, manly tones, no extra lavish details, only a couple of photo frames of his earlier years.
“Here’s your surprise,” Ethan announces excitedly and stands next to me as he points at a stunning evening grown set next to a large mirror.
“So, I was thinking,” Ethan starts and approaches the gown, running his fingertips over the fabric. “As you already heard, Alpha Logan is visiting the pack. I didn’t want to drop the news in front of Joey, I know you need more privacy to process it, but he’s arriving tomorrow. I never meant to blindside you, I found out about how soon it’s happening only today and as you know, I’ve been working way more than usual throughout the day.”
As he turns to look at me, I can’t find the right words to express the emotions running through me.
“I had to arrange everything for his arrival first. I arranged this gown in hope that agree to accompany me during tomorrow’s banquet in honor of Logan’s visit. I mig mistaken, of course, but I believe your presence might help us find common grounds peace agreement.” He explain’s.
“Alpha, I-”
“Ethan,” he cuts me off and corrects me. “Call me Ethan, there’s no need to keep up the pleasantries. We’re friends and you’re practically family now that you’re a part of my pack.”
I nod and take a breath. “Ethan, I can’t do that. First of all, I really don’t want to see Logan, there’s a reason why I left his pack. And second, I fear that my presence there might have negative consequences.”
Ethan chuckles and steps closer. “Nonsense, Amelia. Your presence could never bring negativity, so don’t worry about that. Also, I meant it when I said that I value the opinions of my pack members. Again, you’re officially a part of the Deadfang pack, so your opinion

“True,” my wolf hums. “But if that’s the case, you’re still safe. Even if Logan arrives and sees you, there’s not much he can do – the mate bond is broken, it’s too late.”
This time, I don’t answer her words and try to focus on falling asleep. She’s right, the bond is broken and that’s final – Logan has no claim on me, even more so now that I’m an official part of Deadfang pack.
I just have to power through tomorrow and survive the banquet. After it’s over, Logan will leave and never find out about the baby I’m carrying.
