Wrong Bride True Luna (Amelia and Logan) novel Chapter 7

CHAPTER 7

Amelia

After leaving the house, I didn’t bother to look back. This pack has nothing to offer me and giving them one last glance would be giving the respect no one around here deserves.

By the time I reach the border area, I’m clutching the straps of the bag Katherine threw at me so hard, my knuckles turn white.

For some reason, the pack border patrol started locking down the borders. In any other situation, I’d probably freak out because then, I’d be locked in the same as others.

However, since I have a backup plan, I just hang out close by the border and wait for Professor Michael. When he pulls up with his car, I get inside and hide under a blanket between the back of the driver’s seat and the passenger seat.

Luckily for me, Professor Michael used to be a close friend of my father, so all the pack members know him pretty well and the guards don’t bother to inspect his vehicle carefully enough to find me.

For once, their arrogance pays to my advantage they’re too confident that no one will ever turn their backs on them or dare to go against them.

“You okay back there, pup?” Professor Michael asks as he steers the car over the border. His question catches me off guard at first since I don’t remember the last time anyone bothered to ask me if I’m okay at all, but I’m thankful for the distraction from my thoughts.

“Yes,” I answer quickly.

Professor Michael was my medical professor back when I still attended the werewolf academy. I studied medicine while Katherine was groomed to become Luna.

Thinking back, the difference between us couldn’t be even more noticeable than it already had to fight for everything I have while she received everything on a silver platter. Even ou fates were decided by our parents – while I wanted to save lives and they thankfully allowed me to pursue medicine, Katherine’s life was all about how to be a lady and how to choose the right gown for the ball.

Michael has never been just another teacher, he’s the pack’s most renowned healer and director of Deadfang Hospital. And on top of that at times, he was the only person I could view as a true father figure.

While

my father never cared, Michael showed care a father should.

On top of everything, he always lifted me up instead of breaking me down. Once, he told me my healing abilities were exceptional, stronger than other wolves. Of course, back then he also mentioned that he hoped I would join Deadfang for further training as he knew that I was bullied relentlessly and more than once, he saw it with his own eyes too.

Perhaps that’s where his protective nature started really showing…

Anyway, back then, I refused Michael’s offer because I was to marry Logan. I was too scared to go against my parent’s orders and also, stupidly and madly in love with him too, so leaving felt like something I could never do.

But, as always, Michael let me make mistakes I could learn from, get burned and all that, and only made it a point that I could reach out anytime I’d need him and he’d be there in a heartbeat.

Well, it seems that ‘anytime’ has arrived and just like clockwork, Michael is holding the promise he gave me a long time ago.

After what felt like agonizing hours but couldn’t have been more than a couple of minutes, Michael cleared his throat. “We’re out, pup, it’s safe to get out of there,” he says and adds an amused chuckle when he hears my grunt.

I push off the blanket, wiggle out of the small space and climb over the seats to get in the front passenger seat. “That’s much bette,” I sigh and run a hand through my hair.

Michael side-glances at me and makes a sound deep in his throat. “What’s that on your arm?”

I look at the bandaged arm, then at him and shrug. “Nothing too serious, just a rogue bite. I already received a dose of antidote, so it’ll heal in no time.”

Michael gives me a look that look dads give to their children when they’re not buying the nonsense those kids spill out. Funny, how little of affection and concern a person could truly need to feel seen.

After a moment of silence, he switches the topic. So, what’s the reason why you decided to leave the pack after all? I thought you didn’t want to… you know, all that marriage and future thing you were so excited about. What changed, Amelia?”

“Well,” I drag the word, thinking if explaining everything would bring me any good ar eventually deciding that it’s for the best I don’t hide anything. “Logan, the Alpha and husband, you remember him, right? It turns out I truly was nothing but a substitute for Logan’s mate returned to the pack and he took the opportunity to reject me the moment got a chance. So, I decided to leave for good.”

“Shit,” Michael cursed under his breath. He clearly didn’t want to be overheard, so I don’t comment either. Instead, I listen as he speaks. “You didn’t deserve being tossed away like that pup. I know how amazing and talented you are. Trust me, you deserve so much more and any man would be lucky to have you as his mate.”

Tears well up in my eyes because of his kindness. I receive it so rarely that just a tiny sliver of it instantly makes me more emotional than I have the right to be, especially now that I must be strong for two, not just myself.

Glancing at the rearview mirror, I watch the pack grounds slowly fade into the distance and
