Wrong Bride True Luna (Amelia and Logan) novel Chapter 8

CHAPTER 8

Amelia

Only a few hours later, we arrive at the Deadfang pack and as I step out of the car, stretch and take a deep breath, I’m surprised at how at ease I feel.

All these years, I thought I’d regret it if I tried to leave, maybe miss someone or want to return home, but now.. there’s nothing but peace.

Michael doesn’t waste any time as he grabs my bag, throws it over his shoulder and grins. “I already arranged a room for you. Come, follow me, I’ll show you where it is. I’m sure you want to get some rest after the day you’ve had.”

I nod, smile and follow him inside the large house. I don’t bother to ask if it’s a private property or packhouse because that information will come later. For now, all I really want to do is to take my medicine and have a long, well-deserved nap.

Michael leads me inside the house and down a long hall, then takes one turn and stops by a door. When he opens it, I can’t hold in a gasp that escapes me. The room is more than I dreamed about – spacious, beautiful cream color walls and bed meant for Kings and Queens.

I step inside and look around, absolutely amazed by the generosity. “You’re trying to tell me this is my room? Are you serious?” I ask, voice laced with surprise.

“Yep. I know it’s nothing much, but it’s the fastest room I could manage to secure for you. Give me a bit and I’m sure I can arrange something better.” Michael explains and sets my bag on the bed.

I don’t want to ruin this moment, so I bite my tongue and don’t bring up anything about the rooms I’ve had so far back home.

Instead, I focus on unpacking and pulling out the stuff Katherine packed for me. Mic eyes don’t leave my hands, then focus on something as he steps closer. “What’s tha asks and points at the medicine bottles at the bottom of the bag.

I pull out one of many and shrug, “it’s a vitamin complex for my health. I’ve been taki years.”

Michael frowns, snatches the bottle from me and unscrews it, then brings it to his nose and sniffs it. His face pulls in an ugly frown and a deep growl leaves him. “This is no vitamin, pup,” he says sharply and grips the bottle so hard, some of the liquid pours over. “This is an inhibitor. A very specific one that’s meant to weaken the bond between mates and might explain why you still haven’t found your fated mate. I learned about this in school many years ago, but never in my life have I encountered anyone actually using it.”

To say I’m shocked would be an understatement. My knees nearly give out from under me and my hands shake as I sit on the bed and attempt to ground myself. What? How? Why?

I watch Michael gather the bottles from my bag, open and sniff them all, then carry them to

the bathroom to flush the contents while he’s cursing under his breath.

“I-” I call out, then clear my throat. “I thought it was vitamins, I never thought it’s anything but that. Or maybe I just grabbed the wrong bottles in my hurry to leave.” I try to downplay

the situation.

The only reason why I do is because of my dead mother. She provided me with those bottles, she claimed those are vitamins and had me take them for years. And I, like the blind fool I am, believed her and took them like clockwork. But why would she do this?

My mind brings me back to the day of my eighteenth birthday. My wolf sensed my mate nearby the moment the clock struck my birthday

I remember telling Katherine, foolishly thinking that maybe she’d be happy for me, but she only mocked me and stole my new white dress I prepared for so long.

I can’t recall my plans for that day, but I clearly remember how my mother stopped me at the dodoor when I was just about to leave the house. Back then, she handed me the vitamin bottle

and told me I have to take it for my health.

Truth be told, it made sense too – I was weak, too slim and my parents cared about their reputation more than anything else, so they couldn’t afford being known as the pair with the sisickly daughter.

SoSo, I obeyed and started taking the vitamins regularly, simply because I was touched by the fir first sign of care and worry my mother had ever shown.

HcHowever, now that I think of it, as soon as I started taking those vitamins, I didn’t smell my mamate anymore. I wrote it down to a possibility that someone must have been visiting so my mamate had to be from another pack, not ours.

BuBut then, soon after, Katherine joyfully announced that Alpha Logan was her mate. I forced munyself to stop thinking that there was something fishy and the sudden announcemen ‘t jusjust a coincidence, but I can’t claim I never wondered if there was more my family hi mime than they were willing to show.

“”It’s all in the past, sweetheart. Focus on the start of your new life, freedom and most imimportantly the life you’re carrying under your heart. We got this, I’ll always be there yo you, so don’t let yourself dwell on it,” my wolf comforts me and I can’t help but smile.

ShShe’s right we left the pack, there’s nothing that could ever make me return there and fro nonow on, I won’t let everyone’s cruelty define the person I want to be.

MiMichael places a comforting hand on my shoulder. “All good, pup. Get some rest now, totomorrow you’ll meet the Alpha of your new pack”
