CHAPTER 9
Amelia
The next morning, I wake up bright and early, my nerves too coiled to sleep easily. My wolf keeps reminding me that everything will be okay, we are safe and there’s a brighter future ahead of us, but given how my life has been so far, I can’t help but worry, even if unnecessarily.
I focus on my morning routine the same as I would at home. Shower, brushing teeth, getting dressed, and once I’m ready, I sit on the bed, waiting for Michael to come and get me for the meeting with the Alpha.
Thankfully, I don’t get enough time to overthink because Michael arrives soon after. He knocks on the door, opens it ajar and pokes his head in, then grins at me. “Up bright and early as always, eh?”
“Good morning,” I say with a smile and stand up to walk towards him.
Michael opens the door wider and steps aside, letting me exit the bedroom. Then, he stands next to me, nods at the hall and speaks. “Ready?”
“As ready as I’ll ever be,” I say, let out a steady breath and start walking.
For some reason, I assume we could walk to another building, but instead, Michael takes a sharp turn and leads me up the stairs until we stand at a massive oakwood door and he knocks
on it.
A gruff voice gumbles a deep, “come in” from the other side of the door and Michael pushes the door open, flashing me a quick but reassuring smile.
“Good morning, Alpha,” Michael speaks as soon as the door behind us closes. “This is Amelia Bennett, the girl I mentioned yesterday.”
The man sitting behind the desk slowly lifts his gaze from the paperwork and looks at a little weird to meet another Alpha in person. His presence alone makes me tense, yet u Logan’s cold severity, this Alpha’s appearance and demeanour radiates friendliness.
Slowly, he stands from his seat and walks around the desk, then to me. Once he stands in fro of me, he offers me his hand for a handshake and smiles, “Alpha Ethan Blackwood, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Amelia.”
“Likewise,” I answer, albeit still tense, and place my hand in his.
Ethan holds my hand a little longer than necessary, smiles and studies me for a moment. Then, he clears his throat, “so, Amelia, are you a rogue wolf?”
I nod quickly, “I am now. I’d love to join the Deadfang pack if you’d have me.”
He gives me another once-over and the corner of his mouth twitches as he finally lets go of

my hand. “Well, joining Deadfang requires a test. We need to make sure you’re worthy of joining the pack, I’m sure you understand.”
I’m pretty sure the nervous energy is radiating off me in violent waves and that’s the only reason why the Alpha chuckles and quickly adds, don’t worry, I wouldn’t force you to compete against our warriors.”
I nod and he starts walking around me, making me feel like a prey that’s being assessed by a predator ready to pounce. “Tell me, what are you skilled at? Do you have any special talents?”
I clear my throat and speak as confidently as I can. “Alpha, I believe I’m a very good healer and I’m also kind of a decent cook.”
The Alpha nods in approval and stops in front of the again. “I’ve seen you before, Amelia. You are Alpha Logan’s Luna, am I right?”
“No, no, no,” I deny his words quickly, which only makes me sound defensive, but I don’t care. “Alpha Logan’s Luna is my sister Katherine. We are twins, so we often get confused with one another, but I assure you, I am not who you think I am.”
A broad grin spreads across his lips as the Alpha leans in close and whispers, “liar. I can smell lies from miles away and you, my dear, are a very bad liar. Should I mention that I can smell the pup you’re carrying too?”
((
Panic like no other I’ve felt surges through me and in a state of fear, I confess everything. Okay, I lied, Alpha Eathan. There was a situation and I had to marry Alpha Logan in place of my sister. Now, she’s back in the pack and both of them despise me. I hid the pregnancy because I was scared, still am, of what could happen to my baby if they find out the truth. Please, believe me, I’m not trying to deceive you
Before Alpha can utter a word, Michael clears his throat and takes a step forward to stand next to me. His hand lands on my shoulder and squeezes it gently.
“Alpha, with all due respect, I’m willing to vouch for Amelia. She’s a former student of mine, a very promising one at that, with healing abilities I haven’t seen any other wolf possess. Trust me, she would be a great asset to our pack. If that’s not enough to convince you, I can personally look after her and ensure she doesn’t get in any trouble.” Michael offers.
The Alpha looks between us, arches an eyebrow and settles his gaze on me. “Amelia, are you willing to follow the law of our pack and prove your worth?”
I don’t need even a moment to know the answer. Yes, Alpha, I’m willing to do anything to be allowed to join the pack. I promise I will prove my worth to you and the rest of the pack.”
“And you promise to keep her out of trouble?” The Alpha asks Michael and crosses his arms in front of his chest, looking even larger than he did previously.
“Of course, Alpha,” Michael agrees immediately.
“Okay,” the Alpha grumbles, drops his arms to his sides and runs his hand through his hair. ”

Here’s what we’re going to do: Amelia, you can work at Michael’s hospital, but you will have to prove your dedication and worth. You’re on a three-day probation period. After it ends, we’ll meet and discuss your stay in the pack again.”
“Thank you, Alpha Ethan,” I say quickly and my voice breaks just a little.
He nods at me, flashes me a quick smile, and grumbles, “dismissed, both of you.”
Michael nods at the door and we both turn to leave. Just as I’m about to walk out, the Alpha calls after me, “Amelia? While I can’t promise you easy life and wonders in this pack, what I can promise you is one thing – here in Deadfang, nobody is bullied and isolated. We’re a family.”
