Stephanie’s mind buzzed, panic crashing over her so hard that she struggled wildly to break free from Adrian. But he was like an unmovable mountain, and she couldn’t push him off at all.

Her resistance only seemed to stoke the hunger burning in Adrian’s eyes.

“Get a hold of yourself, Adrian!” Stephanie cried out, her voice shaky.

While she did owe him a favor, she couldn’t be flippantly offering herself up to him to repay that debt!

“Stop moving!” Adrian growled lowly, the vein in his neck bulging. “If you don’t want me to lose control…”

His bloodshot gaze locked on her lips as he teetered on the edge of restraint, using the last of his reason to keep himself in check.

Stephanie froze.

Had she… mistaken what he’d meant about helping him earlier?

“H-How do you want me to help you?” she asked stiffly.

Adrian’s scorching palm was pressed against the small of her back. Even through her clothes, she could feel the burning heat coming from it. The faint groans he let out made it clear he was doing his best to hold back.

“Lock the door, and call my subordinate. My phone’s not on me…”

Despite telling Stephanie to lock the door, he was holding her tighter than ever.

“Y-You need to let go of me first…”

Adrian sucked in a few ragged breaths, as if mustering a great deal of strength, but he only managed to slacken his grip a little.

Stephanie seized this opportunity to give him a hard shove. Caught off guard, he stumbled to the floor, knocking over the chair as well.

“Oh! I’m sorry…” Stephanie mumbled while dashing away from him.

First, she locked the door to the private room they were in. Still standing at the door, she pulled her phone out and asked, “What’s the number? I’ll make the call.”

With his eyes closed, Adrian swiftly rattled off a phone number.

Stephanie made the call at once and heard the voice of a young man on the other end. She gave a simple yet clear explanation of the situation.

After she’d informed the man of the name of the restaurant and the number of the room they

were in, he immediately replied that he was nearby and would be coming over right away.

Once the call ended, Stephanie let out a shaky breath. But when she lifted her head, she saw Adrian staring fixedly at her, like a predator eyeing its prey.

“S-Stay calm, Adrian. Your subordinate is almost…”

“Don’t talk!” Adrian instructed, his fists tightly clenched.

She really had no clue just how much of an effect her soft, lilting voice had on him right now. His entire body seemed to be on fire.

Adrian lowered his gaze and stared at his constant stream of sweat dripping to the floor. He dared not look at Stephanie anymore, afraid that he would lose control and hurt her if he did.

She could’ve left by now. She’d done enough after making the phone call on his behalf.

But she didn’t.

He knew she was worried that if she left the room right now, she might draw someone’s attention and inadvertently reveal his location.

Adrian knew he couldn’t hurt her.

Every second dragged on like a lifetime. The taste of blood rose in his throat. In the end, he couldn’t hold it back, and he spat out a mouthful of blood.

“Adrian!” Stephanie gasped softly.

Just then, there was a knock on the door. At the same time, she received a message from the person she’d called earlier.

“I’m at the door.”

She scrambled to turn around and unlock the door. Standing on the other side was a young man and over a dozen bodyguards, all dressed in black.

The young man, Evan Shaw, didn’t waste time on greeting Stephanie. He rushed into the room and helped Adrian to his feet.

“Mr. Hawke, what-”

Evan’s scalp went numb when he saw the blood on the corners of Adrian’s lips as well as the patch of blood on the floor.

“I’ll take you to the hospital right away!” Evan said before supporting Adrian out of the room.

Stephanie turned to look at the blood on the floor, her gaze contemplative.
